I love LEE CHILD/JACK REACHER... ("The Hard Way" is my favourite.) But I love how HONEST he is about his process. He DOESN'T follow the established rules, (Write What You Know, PLOT!!!) but he explains succinctly why he does not or cannot. Very down to Earth bloke, honest in expression and interesting to hear him explore his own process for our edification. xx SF

Why do you like, ("The Hard Way")? I've been over reading Lee's work, and they are blending. All his books start great, but than I push it.

Jack Reacher solves problems that might occur in any town. . Lee Child captures intriguing way to let jack do his thing saving the day, yet accomplish the bold task of suspense. I am a big fan over and out!

At the beginning Lee addresses an audence and defined it in contrast to himself to kind of set the stage for us. He then illustrates that there is no audience or that they haven't read Reacher. His joke about not changing clothes because he never carries things with him, (that IS Reacher), falls flat! He must now know what he is in for. But then half way in there are other people there noisily setting up or taking down chairs and tables. How rude...but he soldiers on...

Hey, in the eight Reacher books I have read, Reacher NEVER EVER shaves. He showers and combs his hair, but never never shaves. He travels everywhere with his toothbrush -- It wouldn't sound anywhere near as romantic if he were travelling with a toothbrush and a razor. Child must have made a deliberate choice, that Reacher would never have to shave.
@dredwulf_productions Жыл бұрын
He gets a shave along with his haircut in the killing floor and I'm sure there's another novel, possibly Nothing to lose, where he buys shaving foam and a disposable razor to shave. So he does shave / get shaved from time to time. But how long his facial hair gets between shaves is up to our imagination I suppose
@markrichter205311 ай бұрын
Good point. Actually, in Trip Wire he shaves once. And he goes into some detail about his shaving routine, explaining that some past girlfriend had told him that he should shower first to soften the skin, shave, and then shower again. I thought it a bit odd. Who’s going to bother with all that? Not the Jack Reacher I know! 😂

I've always wonder about English writers. They seem so calculating in their work. Everything they write seems to be a means to produce a specific product. You can sort of tell the beliefs of most authors, but the British seem to produce products to fit it's function. Like building a chair, you can't tell a person political view from a chair.
@Kikilang607 жыл бұрын
How he build suspends is true. In the book, "The Wanted Man." Jack ask, "How can you talk for a minute, and not use the letter A.?" At the end of the book Jack states, "recite one to hundred, and you won't use an A until you say, 'a hundred and one' I waited for the whole book for that answer.

I've felt that much of Lee's work has a very dark side. The movies never seem to capture that.

I really think now that our problem with the casting of Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher actually is not so much the obvious physical mismatch. That is in some way superficial and can be mitigated by the magic of screen craft. No, the problem with Cruise is that we all know far too much about the actor in his real life and his off screen behaviour is so wildly at odds with the kind of character for Reacher that we have in our imaginations. Whereas Reacher is down to earth and the consummate pragmatist, he’s also a true romantic. What we know about Cruise is opposite to both these things. He really does seem to be a cookey narcissist, with outrageous beliefs, who is is incapable of real empathy or emotional commitment. And however well Cruise acts, these days we just know far too much about him and it’s began to make it hard to like him as a person and this erodes our capacity for buying into any role he portrays that is at all sympathetic these days. Tom Cruise plays Tom Cruise. And if you don’t really like Tom Cruise, you don’t really want to se him portray a character you love.

Read his books years ago. Well written but for me violence, revenge, killing is NOT "entertainment". We have so MUCH real life violence in the U.S. today, in churches, schools, shopping centers, neighnorhoods, everywhere, with the government fomenting , involved in THREE wars globally in the end its bad on every level bringing violence into our lives when not necessary especially young people.

There´s no big actor????? Liam Neeson is 6ft 4in (193cm) which is a lot if you ask me....(and he would´ve been a better Reacher) Josh Brolin would be my #1 Reacher

Good call, Liam Neeson would have nailed the part. The only problem is Jack Reacher is technically American. He is British in my head when I read it but unfortunately he is actually American.
