I tried BVCP about three months ago. I really like the GUI but I’ve never really had a good experience with bhyve. I found that Windows 10 feels unresponsive and slow. Just for reference my Workstation has a i9 10850k and 64GB of ram with all NVME drives. I gave the Windows VM 16GB of Ram and 8 CPU cores. Since my main workload for school is VMs I switched to Windows 10 enterprise to use Hyper-V. Looking to switch back to FreeBSD and dual boot Arch for KVM. From my experience FreeBSD lacks in good performance hyper visors like Linux and Windows. Would love to be proven wrong though!

Agreed, the Bhyve web-interface looks excellent. But, I'm still not clear whether GPU-passthru, or any device passthru, works in Bhyve and/or if does how to set it up. Maybe you could explain the situation, and if device passthru does work make a video about how to configure it. It seems like Bhyve is more intended for server use-cases in which device passthru etc. really aren't needed, rather than a workstation use-case where graphics, audio, etc. are expected to work seamlessly inside a VM.

I believe that PCI pass through works but not with graphics cards. My personal issue is how slow bhyve is. I use Windows Enterprise and Server 2019 to setup active directory, DNS and various other things and it’s painfully slow on Bhyve. This is especially annoying when I have a high end pc. I think bhyve is alright if your going to setup services such as NextCloud but not really for workstation and experimental use. Also to mention that some people claim to have GPU pass through working on RTX 2000 series cards but I’ve never seen actual proof. I have a GTX 1080 and am not much of a gamer. That being said when I want to play games I’ll put a ssd with windows 10 into one of my hot swap bays and then boot into it to get bare metal performance.

I feel like bhyve is best used when you want to run an application that is incompatible with FreeBSD, but doesn't need lots of performance. If you do want performance, Jails (or another hypervisor like KVM, Xen or Hyper-V) might be a better option. I guess this is what NetApp thought when they created bhyve, so they could run additional stuff on their FreeBSD based appliances. 🤔 Right now I am using Proxmox VE as my hypervisor, but since I am mostly moving to FreeBSD, I might switch to Jails and run bhyve VMs for stuff that only runs on Linux, the WebGUI would be a nice way to do that

There is nothing wrong with bhyve's performance when compared with other full virt hypervisors like kvm. I work with KVM, xen and bhyve all day. You are absolutely wrong saying that the other hypervisors are a better option for performance. Jails is not even in the same category as KVM, Xen or hyper-v. Similar container tech is openvz and lxd.

Pretty nice frontend for vm-bhyve but comparing with other solution is weak-very slow, not so many option to configure or pick another custom conf file. Via noVNC session i was unable to use my mouse, i didn't had any option to setup in conf files, even if i added something similar like with windows.conf file. The mouse pointer appear but cannot be used. Any suggestions?

I just do not like that this tool is closed source ... there is just a binary blob in the git repository - so a no-go for me

I never tough I' ll expand my knowledge of hypervisor interfacing from Andy Warhol Sorry for the edit, but this guy set up an A class network for his home? How many millions of devices he has? :S

You don't have to subnet it as a /8 when using the 10.x.x.x range.
