Thanks for the video. I like your dog in the background. Reminds me of the dog I had growing up.

There's a reason the storage clusters I used to admin used a variant of BSD.

Hi David, thanks for watching, Absolutely, and is also why a lot of the proprietary NAS solutions use a BSD variant.

Thanks Gary. This is a very useful video. I followed this and have created a samba shared server which I can access from my windows machine. Is there a way I can upload / download files from this samba server to/from my iphone?

If you like easy, small eMacs-like editors you might want to try out mg.

Mr Gary, thanks for your time on this interesting subject, but after it, I don't know what to do .... 😮 9 min for that ? .. how to install Samba ? .. how to set up Samba how to connect my desktop and RPi4 ? how to secure that server ? how to connect to server from outer Internet ? how to setup transfer through firewall ? ..... and more importantly : slow down please, we don't have experience on FreeBSD .. why not make 2 hourly parts, it could include even more explanations ... if we try to get into BSD we need time, or we go away to others for learning .. I give you an example 😊 Paul McWhorter on yt teaches people microcontrollers, programming, CAD, 3D printing, and other projects .. Actually are serries of Raspberry Pi Pico, and lesson 104 maybe, every lesson around 1 hour .. on the tiny microcontroller credit card size ..... I was attending many his projects, he is a real teacher, nicely teach every step and why it is .... Your video about File Server, Samba, etc, is 9 minutes 🤔 ? .. no comment

Gary, is there any way having FreeBSD boot-up automatically without demanding a login name and password? I have an old pc I want to use as samba server but I only have one monitor, which after I have set things up, would be reconnected to my main machine.

Honestly, you're probably better off with using SSH in order to log in if you need to. In most cases you don't need to log in unless you want to run commands.
