4 years ago this video randomly showed up on my recommendation page back when I was still a high school kid. Fast forward to now, I have accepted my first M&A strategy consulting internship. I am truly grateful that I have saw your video and this video truly inspired me when I first entered university and thinking about what career I want to pursue. I avoided a career in consulting because of all the travelling that it required... but now in my current non-consulting position, because my clients are all over the world, I still ended up needing to travel a bit. I hate living out of my suitcase, but do enjoy the work I do. Your day looks so similar to mine! Back-to-back calls, rushing to client lunch, more calls in the car, webex when I get home. @kimfucku80746 жыл бұрын
Usually they tell you the stuff you already know and let you do the slides that they sell you for more what you earn in a year. A consultant would charge you for that, I do it as a favor. That also explains why I'm not rich, and not a consultant.

So many toxic people in the comment sections that did not manage to get a degree and build their careers well enough to work with their brains and not hands. Chill, people, you don't understand how hard can it be sometimes. Analysts and consultants are also making your world go around because they help businesses and services grow and bring a better experience to you as well. KZbin, Amazon, Netflix and so on are businesses (surprise!) that have these people on board, just to set an example. But hey, you don't hate it, you use it. The world can survive without cleaners (and other monotone and low-end jobs) as they can (and will be) replaced with automated solutions pretty soon. So think again before calling any role useless. Who knows, maybe that analyst you don't like just figured out how to replace you with a machine ;)
@englandbengal4 жыл бұрын
Daria Varha what a completely ignorant classist comment. For one thing there are many career paths that one can take without a degree. I am a professional in an industry that has been experiencing exponential growth in the energy markets, and I don’t have a degree. Others prefer to work with their hands and they often make six figures. That’s not my point though, some people cut grass, clean toilets, serve food, etc. Those people are valuable and the work they do has meaning and I’m grateful that they are taking care of those duties. You shouldn’t value someone just because of their vocation. Plenty of people are perfectly happy doing work that you most likely degrade. My own father in law worked a back breaking job in a factory, raised 4 kids, and was a great dad. He has no degree. His sister develops missiles for the military. He is way more intelligent than she is but he chose a different path and he’s one of the happiest people I know. Sure people can be toxic on here and by your comment you have joined them.
@dverser4 жыл бұрын
EnglandBengal now take your comment and take it to literally any other tread on here. I am just making my point, to work in consulting you need a lot of brain power and experience. So when a people around here degrade this type of job - I just show them their reflection. Simple as that. I worked in an office and worked as a bar tender and a bike courier, not to mention other weird occupations I had. I know what manual labor is. But I feel rather sad, when people who never worked in consulting think it a waste of space.

In medical field, a doctor would start his/her career as a houseman (1) 2 years later: Get license and become a medical officer (2) 4 years later: Qualify to apply & enrol in a master's degree program or post-graduate study equivalent in specialty & sub-specialty of his/her choice. 2 years later: Finished study, becomes a clinical specialist (3) 3~4 years later: Becomes a consultant (4) after completing specialty & sub-specialty training. Consultant nephrologist, Consultant cardiologist, Consultant neurosurgeon, Consultant orthopaedic surgeon, Etc. These consultants are typically attached to a hospital. Very rarely as visiting consultants. Consultant is at 4th level in medical field, which is the maximum a doctor could climb. Further north is just a 'senior'. Senior Consultant Xxxxx is the same as consultant Xxxxx, no further study and/or training needed. Just with more experience. On the other hand, consultants who work at McKinsey & Company, Boston Consulting Group or Bain & Company will are external staffs who consult certain companies which need bird-eye view on their business. Or on specific task. They consult many companies, deal with so many chairmen, directors, Presidents, CEOs, COOs, CFOs SVPs, VPs, etc, don't they? A consultant civil & structure engineer in a high-rise condominium project consults developer & contractor. Like a man who is in between of an owner and contractor. Point is: The term consultant is widely used and could be loosely defined. It spans across many professions and industries.

Very nice vlog! Really great rhythm/pacing to it. I don't know if you mentioned this elsewhere, but did you get this gig immediately after college or was it something different? Asking cause I'm also an English/Comparative Literature major!

I got this after working in PR for a few years + getting my master’s in management, but people have all different kinds of educational/career backgrounds - it’s more about the type of experience you get during/right out of college

Maam, I heard that the employees of the consulting firms can take unpaid leave of one month in a year without reason... So maam can someone choose the month of 1 month leave.. Or the month is previously decided by the company... Plz reply maam... Plz plz....

I don’t know anything about the type of consulting you do but it sure does look like a lot of fun traveling as much as you do!
