Interesting when he mentions not doing Top Gear, "just wanna fix me trucks". Moody International.

i am a proud lorry driver, but these big hauliers have kept pay rates low and treat you like crap. they say there is a driver shortage but if a young lad/ lass spends thousands of pounds to get a class 1 license and then goes to get a job he gets the 'need 2 years experience' or ' you've got to be 25 to drive our trucks' imagine going to university to become a doctor and then being told ' sorry but you need 2 years experience to work in this hospital'. then when you get a job you spend all week living in a tiny space that not even a prison would be allowed to keep prisoners in, having to go for a crap in filthy motorway services and paying a fortune to park there overnight. its not appealing is it. all that said i would'nt swap my job for anything.

Ha ha good old guy, I’ve had people refer to me as a technician before and I said the same, I’m a mechanic, none of these fancy terms please. Every time someone mentions it 😂

Mr. Martin must be slightly (?) mad or he ain't done trucks long enough. These very often dirty smelly dripping rusty back breakers.. Public advice: Stay away and stay healthy. Loving the tech and it's culture and enjoy it is possible for only some I very much respect Mr. Martin and the way he stands by himself. He could have been sittin on a fancy horse by now all out commercialized á la American. Hope you're around for many more years ..crazy.

I was doing 15 /18 drops a day all over Manchester and lancs..work out hourly rate..not even minimum wage..why on Earth would a 21 yr old come into road haulage..these transport places pay low wages..huge turnover like 3663 in Salford who can't even get agency lads to turn in now..need start paying 10hr instead of 8/8.50 pH..

That's not right that scania is a truck maker not a boat engine supplier, scania made the truck v8 so it should stay in trucks not boats

Shut up about the shortage of drivers due to pay....I'm a driver and I get paid more then the average wank mechanic/truck fitter!

Stacey McGrath I'd say it's a few things causing a shortage. Time away, cost to get the applicable licence etc.. I'm sure there'd be loads of drivers if it was easy and cheap to do the tests, but when you're in control of a 40 ton potential weapon you need skilled drivers. Maybe the job isn't as appealing as other equal paying jobs. Not sure if the wank mechanic thing was a dig at Guy but it's a bit of a hobby for him lol

I used to do it, but no more. It's a single man's job. Nowadays I want to be home for the kids.

The thing with being a truck driver I find is that you have to be born in the truck world. Otherwise I think it might be a bit intimidating for some people.

And who do you work for to command the money to be on more than a fitter ? I am a truck driver for a decent company and i am paid a respectable hourly wage for my skills . Mechanics/ fitters serve a four year apprenticeship night school the lot and tend to be better paid on a hourly basis , drivers tend to be paid more only because of the ammount of hours we work.
