Hi Becky, I make a lazy stuffed cabbage. I core out the middle of the cabbage leaving a cavity for the filling. I cover the opening with several whole leafs to keep the filling moist. It’s more like a stuffed cabbage head . I cover the cabbage with my sauce and bake until the filling is cooked and the cabbage is tender. I bake the cabbage in a Dutch oven so that all sides of the cabbage is evenly cooked. I slice the cabbage in wedges and cover with sauce. It doesn’t take as long to prepare and it is a pretty dish.

My favorite pizza o Bo is fresh basil, cherry or grape tomatoes, onions, sliced garlic & fresh mozzarella. I like it both with sauce or just olive oil. Sometimes for a quick single I use flat bread or pita. And like you, I put the tomatoes on top to roast. Also try with sun dried tomatoes as they are so sweet.

My mom used to make stuffed cabbage when I was growing up. She cooked them in the old style pressure cooker, it was always a little scary thinking it could explode! Lol She also used tomato soup for the broth so it was sweeter. When she passed I inherited the pressure cooker and finally had gotten the nerve to make them and my Dad really appreciated that because it was a bit of Mom with him when he ate it. I used to make him freezer meals and he just loved that! Unfortunately Dad passed 3 years after Mom but I feel good knowing I was able to cook for him to help out. Food really is a labor of love.

I grew up eating cabbage rolls. I can’t wait to see what the raisins taste like in sauce. I use whatever I like for filling sausage mixed with beef or beef. Seasoning also change but always garlic and onions. I usually almost purée the onions do to kids. I always add fresh lemon juice to sauce. I cook in oven, stovetop or crockpot depending on time of year. We serve on mashed potatoes. They do freeze well either cooked or raw.

My mother in law made the best stuffed cabbage. She would make a full roaster. Each time. I sure do miss her and her fabulous cooking.

I agree w freezing the whole head. The leaves all come off super easy when thawed. These look yummy! I have only made those once in my almost 28 years of marriage LOL but they’re really good. Will make when I do my next grocery pickup. And yum bread!!!
