A Wet Spring Break ║ Hang Out with This Homeschool Mom of 8 │ Spring Break

This spring break is a wet one! We get lots of snow, we go to a swimming birthday party and a water main breaks flooding our street. We were without water into the following day. We took a trip to the rest area before bed so everyone could use the potty. (In the night, Tom brought in a big bucket of water from the pond so we could flush our toilet at home.)
Miss Sophia was sick for one day this week and it seemed like the younger kids were all kind of crabby a lot of the time.
Thomas used 2/3 of his 2nd paycheck to buy a computer game for Asher and they had a good time playing together during their free time. We also did some Lego challenges to have something to do in the mornings when the computers were off-limits.
I took a few of the kids with me to the DMV to finish renewing my Driver's License. We also spent a few hours visiting Grandma Fern that afternoon.
We got some fun new packages from some of our KZbin friends. Easter was this week (shown in a separate video) so we finished opening them on Easter. We got quite a few additional Easter cards from all of you that weren't shown on video. Sorry, Everyone!
As for me, I got all of the school projects done that I was hoping to get to over Spring Break. I got the PACEs inventoried, ordered new ones and got all of them put away (except for the ones that haven't arrived yet.) I got a ton of tests scored... I was WAY behind on that. I got our records updated, cleaned out all of my desk bins, shredded old PACEs for the compost, filed everything that needed filed, cleaned off my desk, updated our Vegetable Challenge game and made a flip chart for our Character of the Week.
We homeschool using ACE curriculum. Our kids are 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4 and 2. Baby Hannah is due 6 days from the uploading of this video. So excited!

Really wonderful to share his wage with his brother he's a brilliant example of Tom and Andreas wonderful parenting skills,everything is focused on bringing up the children ,wonderful children and wonderful parents,I wish more people would subscribe as if you were young parents or parent you would learn so much,Andrea you could do a book on parenting I'm sure people would buy your wonderful,I've watched another family who home school I have never in a year seen any lessons,these children will all turn into wonderful adults like their parents,I have said this before but just love your ways,I wish I could turn back time and have been more like you,I had 3 and I focused more on house work,didn't have big home but all these wasted hours that could have been spent with children,ironing another one hours I did,I don't use an iron any more I fold from drier,I could go on and on but please parents learn from this family, children first housework fit it in sometime,xxxxx

Oh, Andrea, when you lost the water, I had the same thought....the birth pool! I'm so thankful Hannah didn't arrive that night! God's timing is perfect : ) When you went to visit Grandma Fern and her hair was down, it became clear who you inherited your glorious hair from! Thomas is making my heart melt with all his thoughtful generosity...what a wonderful young man, and great example for the younger ones. The description says Hannah is due in about 6 days! That’s so crazy!!! Your pregnancy seems to have flown by.i was hoping she’d be born the 23rd so we’d have the same name and birthday but that’s not how life works. We always add cauliflower to our mashed potatoes. U don’t taste it at all and it helps to stretch out the potatoes without adding as much milk and it adds extra nutrients. Just an idea to try. You can also just do mashed cauliflower but i personally prefer the consistency of the two together.

Dude, I have done that and you can tell, lol. It changes the flavor and the texture, even if you do 1/4 cauli and 3/4 potatoes.

Solly was making me laugh so hard with his "run him over!" If my desk could look half that good, I would be happy. lol I have this huge desk with a itty bitty work area of about a foot square because I let everything pile. Thomas truly is one incredible older brother. What a wonderful role model for his siblings.

I enjoyed the fun video! Tell Thomas to invest in a pair of sneakers with good support and lots of good cushion. Concrete floors are brutal on the feet. Take care of your feet and they'll take you many places (without pain)! - The pool looked sooo good!

Your kids are so creative! When I was a kid, I hardly ever played with Legos. My brothers built stuff all the time, but I just never really got into them. I did however love lincoln logs. We had a huge set of the original wooden ones, and my younger brother and I would spend the day building a huge city of roads in our tv room. I also loved playing with my barbies and baby dolls.

Saw someone play a game using 1 dice and legos. You roll the dice and what number you get that is how many holes you can connect to that lego below with another lego. You make a stack tower like Jenga. Who ever makes the tower fall over looses. Looked like fun!

Seeing Solly at the pool and the mention of the vegetable challenge reminded me of a comment I saw a few weeks back where you said he was getting more confident trying new things other than vegetables. Has he continued to feel able to sit down in the bath? I hope so, it can be so difficult for little ones to overcome fears/anxieties like that!

Yes, he's a new man in the bathtub. The way he played at the pool was, frankly, shocking based on his past fears. I couldn't believe how he splashed and got his face wet and sat right down in the water as soon as we got there. I'm so proud of him!

Hi Andrea, Everyone has already said most of what I wanted to say, so I'll just add that I feel so sad when Sophia is crying. I know she hasn't learned how to verbalize all of her needs and desires yet and so she cries but it just breaks my heart, especially when the reason she was crying was because she was running a temperature and didn't know how to tell you she didn't feel good. :-( On a different note, I think of you first thing every morning wondering whether or not you've had Hannah yet. I am just so anxious to meet her. I pray for a safe labor and delivery for the both of you. God bless you Mills family!

Pleasant surprise with a video, I am sure you are busy with lots of preparations for baby hannah. Mrs. Andrea do you not swim? I think Solomon is a great little artist. Oh man, that sucks about the water. But I know that feeling we lose water at least 2 to 3 times where I live cause the landlord refuses to put in a new well. Solomon screaming run them over...😕 silly boy. You are so organized, were you always an organizational type person? I am not but trying to be, I am a clutter bug...and since I have started watching I have been trying to make changes, but some times it is so hard. Any tips to help push me in the right direction?

I've always _wanted_ to be an organized person, but it's a struggle. I'm not good at maintenance, so I try to come up with systems that can run themselves. If it's up to me, things fall apart fast! Some of my best thoughts on organization are in the first two videos of my Large Family, Small House Organization playlist. As for swimming, yes, I swim, but I don't much for two reasons. 1. It's hard fitting into a bathing suit (especially at this stage!) 2. I don't feel like I can supervise well when I'm down in the water so I feel better staying back where I can see everyone. It was nice at the swimming party because my sisters and I got to sit and visit while we watched all the kids. It was a really nice time!

That water pouring from the cracks in the street was pretty scary..thankfully you are close to the rest area! Solomon saying run him over was hilarious! When my kids were young (many many years ago) they were arguing in the car about something ridiculous and i stopped the van about a quarter mile from our house (we live in a very rural area) and ordered them out of the car and made them walk home..they didn't fight much in the car anymore. I know the boys weren't fighting but it reminded me of that! Lol :) ahhh sweet memories ♡♡

My mom's sister has 7 kids and we were all piled into her van (before the days of seat belt laws) making the 100 mile trip home from where Grandma Fern and Grandpa Kenny lived when I was young. My cousin, Rick, was always a bit of a pill (my aunt says he ruined every family picture because he was grumpy or crying :) ) and on this particular trip he was trying everyone's patience with his naughtiness. He must've been about 10; I would've been about 8. My aunt pulled over to the side of the road, kicked him out of the van and drove away. She only went about 20 yards before stopping and waiting for him to run and get back in, but we were all shocked and horrified. Rick was quiet the rest of the way home and so were all of the rest of us kids. I don't think I ever heard my aunt get angry or yell, but her firm, "Get out," that day spoke volumes!

Oh by the way..your chicken soup looked delicious! Thomas reminds me of my oldest son. He has such a kind heart and always did nice things for people. He started working at mcdonalds when he turned 14, that particular christmas was a rough one for us monitarily and he took several of his paychecks and bought his 4 brothers and sisters Christmas. That Thomas-- he's oblivious of when holidays are coming, but his heart is still made of gold. He watches for what his loved ones need and want and tries to make that happen just because. He's much like my husband in that regard. My husband HATES to shop for presents for birthdays and Christmas, but he will randomly order or buy something that he sees that we would like, or will spend an hour setting up the telescope and find cool objects so he can show us when we come home from something. Hopefully, he will find a partner that appreciates that aspect from him-- because my friends think it's crazy that my husband doesn't give me gifts for my birthday or Christmas!

I love the girls swim shorts! I have a skirt for the pool but it gets all heavy when it's out of the water, shorts are a much better idea, wonder if they make those in adult sizes?!

Hannah Rebecca My niece wears boys swim shorts over her swimsuit. Another idea is bike shorts as they are made from spandex like swimming suits. I make my girls suits and right now they like the little skirts, but I have also found leggings patterns to make them shorts in the future.

Many companies do swim shorts for women. I have a swim skirt of the same material as swim shorts, and it never gets heavy, but the one I had made of that heavy knit material was like having a rock skirt when you got out of the water, it was so heavy!
