Well done for getting out there and braving the weather. Still got some nice images and keep meaning to try a focus stacked panno myself.

I really enjoy your videos. I myself spend much of my time alone filming wildlife in the middle of nowhere living out of a tent. I have been getting more interested in doing some landscape work. Your videos inspire me to move forward and give it a go.

The Freedom Wild oh hey man. Thanks so much! That means a lot to me!! The tent side is very new to me as you’ll prob tell haha. But I’m really addicted to getting out and exploring with it! 😊👍🏻 I’m thrilled I’ve inspired you mate. That’s amazing. Def get Out and snap away mate! Let me know how you get on! 😊👍🏻📷

Extreme photography! I’m sure others have told you by now but there is a great interval timer feature on XT2 that would avoid you needing to use the standard 10 sec timer whilst taking that lake shot.
@GarethDanks7 жыл бұрын
hey man.. thanks for your comment! yeah thats another feature i forget to use! haha.. ill bare that in mind for when the wireless remote is too far away! :-) would love a wireless remote for it! the one for the xpro2 doesnt work on the xt2! :-(

Looks fun Gareth and good video. I live in Pembrokeshire so that's not far to drive and I've been meaning to go back there but the road to the car park puts me off, it's a killer on the suspension and my neck, lol.

Hey thanks mate. Images weren’t what I’d hoped as the weather prevented me from going anywhere. 👎🏻☹️
@johnbentley10567 жыл бұрын
Gareth Danks I think that’s one of the challenges of landscape photography. If you can deal the vagaries of weather and light yet still capture images that convey your feelings you are doing well. I know I have more failures than successes. That is what keeps me coming back. I will get that perfect image one day. Have fun. Look forward to your next video.

Well done Gareth, great experience by the looks. I did one a few years ago on Mynydd Llangorse and had similar misty weather, mind it was summer so not cold, lol. You were kitted up like well by the looks, had all the essential's -scarpers too, like a walkers/campers catalogue :) Misty images looked good. I reckon you got a real taste for it after your epic with Grant. :)

Yeah technically Gareth I'm sure they were OK but I was referring to the mood of the mountain that the weather created. We can all have great conditions but it's those other conditions that speak of something else..... atb

Hi...great video. Was wondering what kinda focus mode you are using when shooting yourself?

Great Video Gareth. I am trying to gear up for my first wild camp shoot, can you tell my what your bag was weighing in at? I am struggling to get mine below 19kg (which is a bit too much for my dodgy back). And thats being quite brutal with luxuries. Thanks in advance, and keep the amazing videos coming, there great!
@GarethDanks7 жыл бұрын
Hey Lee. Cheers man. Yeah it’s not fun is it haha. I’m doing another in 2 weeks climbing a mountain so I’m desperately trying to get it down. On this trip you’ll be sad to hear it weighed 22.7kg!! I know.! I wasn’t happy about it. But my other vlog on the mountain. First wild camp. Weighed 18kg. Much better. I get people telling me 18-25kg is Normal. Food and Water make up a big part. It’s nuts. Camera gear sucks to carry! 😂👍🏻
@ljrouse7 жыл бұрын
phew! I thought I was doing something wrong. Glad to know I’m on target with the weight. I’ll just have to be careful. Looking forward to more vlogs. Thanks for the info.

Cheers man. Appreciate that! New one goes up tomorrow.. what sleeping bag and mat you using? Makes a massive difference 😊👍🏻
@ljrouse7 жыл бұрын
Cool, I’ll lookout for it. I have the mountain hardware lamina z flame bag with a thermal rest neoair xlite mat. It’s my Fuji 100-400 which is killin the weight, but I’d be gutted if I left it behind as it’s the only long lens I have.
@GarethDanks7 жыл бұрын
Hey man. Just looked up your bag! Love the weight. 500g lighter than mine 😂 I hate leaving my 50-140 even tho I don’t use it that often. It’ll be the one time you don’t bring it you see the most amazing shot 🤣 Cheers man. Speak again. 👍🏻

I got a little lost in the discussion about focus stacking a pano. Did you do a sweep all the way at one focus point then do another sweep at the second and so on or did you focus on the first shot, refocus on the second shot and refocus on the third in essence only doing one sweep? I have not focused stacked anything (attempting to manage sharpness throughout with smaller fstop) yet but I am interested in giving it a try.
@GarethDanks7 жыл бұрын
Hey Philip. To be honest I’ve done it both ways. The image in the video I did two sweeps. As I thought it wouldn’t be possible to accurately focus back and forward for all the shots unless I used the dof meter in Camera. So yeah 1 focus point per pano and merged the two in post. I have to say tho... at 14mm on the lens I’m not sure it was worth the effort. The single foreground image was fine on its own. And the sharper background wasnt noticeable. But then it was a soft foggy day. Maybe I’ll try it again. A lot more work tho haha. Imagine that and a bracket! 😂👍🏻 thanks for your comment Philip 😊👍🏻
@andrewlunn7 жыл бұрын
Good on ya for getting out there in those conditions Gareth. Whats your verdict on the Pano / Focus Stack - will you be doing more or sticking to the usual pano?
@GarethDanks7 жыл бұрын
Haha. Thanks mate. What was I thinking ay! No mate! Not really seeing the benefit of all the extra work haha. Simple image maybe but I’m happy with my Normal dof at f16
