frankly Patpong is a place you should try. You might get a wife or wives by the time you wake up (gay). It's like a meeting place for like-minded people. Once in your life I think you should try and experience it. I recommend you to go with your friends. Try to explore the other side of the world once in your life (I've tried it) and it's fun.

Well. for those traveling to Thailand for the first time who have certainly googled quite a bit before their first trip (me included a long time ago) So this was probably something on the agenda, Tuk Tuk, Go Go an d beer. Although it was a long time ago, it is certainly the same nowadays: But I've never seen them have ( drew a picture with a pen ) LOL that's a new one. "Since you work for us" is always nice to follow where you walk around Bangkok many soi. Lots of memories come to mind and the desire to travel only increases. was a good one Chris :) waiting for 17 :)

I went to Pattaya for the first time aged just 22 in 1986. I had a girlfriend at home. I was only there as I worked for British Airways and at that time BKK was the easiest warm place to go in winter for 'new' staff with a low staff travel priority. And the Hotel was only about $10 per night 4 star. I went to 'Crazy Horse' a Go-Go. They had this ping-pong show similar to what you mention. I was scared to death!

@@RetiredWorkingForYou Indeed I did. Oh, and in answer to your question about my opinion on Patpong, that was my first exposure to the go-go culture waaay back in the mid-90s and it was quite fun at the time. But I went back there maybe 10-12 years ago and found it had turned pretty seedy. Shame, really, because it was once a fun spot.

Silom & Patpong. Have always loved, maybe always will. Three months in Thailand just done. Would occasionally frequent Irish pub, listen to music and look up at the Black Pagoda. Saw the girls, but didn't think any more of it...go figure. Strangely (or not), I love the eclectic-ness of this part of town. There is so much to see + explore...such a mishmash. This comes from a guy that hardly drinks and doesn't like being hassled...happy to watch the world go by...and it does here. 🙏

Hey Chris, thanks for the "walk down on memory lane"...my first visit was early 87...long ago, when I went to a ping pong show, in a dark, filthy, narrow alley. Lots of noise coming out of some staircases, men and women grabing, luring you into the bars, which were smoke filled, stinky and sticky chairs. It was an experience, I would not want to miss. Albeit now, I would condemn these things - then.....Nowadays, it is like any big city, with an official red light area, where anybody can go for (adult-) entertainment. Colorful lights, music, drinks, etc. youngers, hippsters, etc. i.e. Reeperbahn in Hamburg/Germany. It attracts tourists...brings forex, jobs, turnover (as long as there is no corruption), taxes to pay for hospitals, roads, education, etc. Mankind will extinct itself through other means....:))😂

During my first or second visit to Thailand, as a complete newbie, a seasoned tourist and Thai visitor who I met in Phuket, introduced me to Nana plaza during a one day stopover in Bangkok. The venue we went into was on the third floor of Nana Plaza, and the size of a large nightclub. There were lots of tourists, including couples, and over the next 30-45 minutes, the live shows showed me just about more than I could have expected to have seen. This was some 20 years ago now. My last visit to Thailand was 2012, and even then, there had been a massive crack down on the clubs doing live shows or with any nudity. Not been back for ten years, so I don't know if it has changed back or not. Needless to say, after just that one visit, I don't feel inclined to need to see another show again.

in 2002, my first trip, My attorney buddy took me to almost every bar there at 7pm which is early. Even went to the Ladyboy bar at the top of the escalator, he took me there first to shock me, having been in thailand about 20 hours at that point I wasn't shocked. At the end of the brief tour He asked which one to pick, at the time the easy best bar was "Angelwitch" It had an organized show at 9 pm and was a bar that set the standard. in the following years it became a mediocre bar but almost every trip to thailand I've stopped in to buy the "Mama" a couple drinks and have a laugh. That lady knows easy money because the minute I walk in she's on it and doesn't even try to sell me. lol I buy her a few drinks, she gets me to by a few more then the trips complete...lol I'm married now so its doubtful I'll ever return but it was a fun distraction as a single dude. I never got the whole gogo bar thing, or any bar thing while being in a relationship unless my significant other was with me, Not judging others, I just never got it. In fact, never visited Thailand while in a relationship unless my girl joined me. Probably what made it easy for me to not cheat....lol

@@fastj1962 likewise, if I'm in a relationship, then I'm in a relationship, pure and simple. Took a gf at the time (some 19 years ago) to Phuket, and we spent our time in conventional bars and restaurants. She would have told me if she wanted to go anywhere else. On reflection, I would have had a far better time if she hadn't been there. Lucky escape that that relationship ended.

@@SeanHendy I took some time off because of raising my kids and work. When I started back in 2014 I was hitting Thaifriendly and meeting women in a more serious relationship minded manner. Went through a learning curve and would talk to them via facetime sometimes months before visiting. In 9 trips I never had a bad time and all but one stayed out of gogo bars. Met my wife in 2018. The opposite of a bar girl, and a week before returning home bought her a rountrip ticket and wasted the return portion :) No reason to bad mouth any aspect of thai life. Its all good if you have a good head on your shoulders. I find the only people who bad mouth Thailand are the people who think $30k in the bank means they can retire in thailand and they eventually get a rude awakening and become pissed at the world. I like this channel because Chris is a real dude that shares real info. He's probably too nice a guy to know as much as I do about go go bars....lol

@@fastj1962 nodding furiously in agreement. I really like the Thai culture and their way of doing things as well as approach to life. Turned 50 this year, been single for 10, and never been married, no kids either. The plan since before lockdown has been to move to Phuket for the long term, and plans progress to get all the necessary ducks in a row. Been working online remotely since 2013, so my office can be anywhere with decent internet connection. The bars are ok for some easy company and an ego boost, but hardly the right place for anything serious. I too would be looking for long term relationship, and someone educated, preferably with their own business (we'd have a lot in common and something to talk about). I filter out people who are negative, particularly about Thailand, unless they have a good argument. They rarely do. I don't have time for negativity. True story, staying in Patong circa 2003 ish, I popped into Scruffy Murphy's on Bangla Rd as was my habit of an evening, and met two British women in their mid 20's. Usual initial conversation and they quickly expressed their dislike of Phuket/Patong, and that they were going to leave and go somewhere else, I think another country. I asked them if they had been to the waterfalls, the gibbon sanctuary, to Wat Chalong, taken a day trip to Phi Phi or James Bond island, or any of the half a dozen attractions in easy reach. They hadn't done any. Their view was simply because of the Go Go bars and seeing men with younger Thai women. I said that I didn't think they'd given it much of a chance considering they hadn't really been anywhere. It was lost on them completely. It didn't matter that there were some couples that picked up some company, or that there were women picking up bar girls, or some women meeting Thai men. Granted they are in the minority, but I'm not a fan of sweeping generalisations. What did they really expect to find in the middle of the red light area of Phuket? But even still, it takes 10 seconds to have a proper look and see the many restaurants, normal bars, businesses, clubs and non go go bars, all around, but all they could see was what they didn't like. Their loss. Congratulations on finding someone special. May you have many more years together.

@@SeanHendy I have met so many people in Thailand in so many different circumstances. A few trips in I had gone to Pattaya with the buddy who got me to go to thailand the first time. I stayed at the then Marriott I think it was also 2003. I met this bar girl in Tonys Disco which was a popular spot. Her job was to get dudes to buy drinks, then she had to do the same thing on the afterhours party barge. I told her to come over after "work" I get a call in the am from the front desk and went down to get her where she left her ID with the front. We got to my room which had 2 queen beds and I noticed she was sick as hell. She had a really high fever and was pale. I called room service and they brought me a thermometer and tylenol. She took the meds and went to sleep in one bed and I in the other. That afternoon she woke up and was much better. We became friends and hung out for a few years. Never hooked up either. She was just a cool chick. She ended up learning to cut hair and working a real job. Just one of the many awesome Thai people I've met in my thai adventures. We have a house in Chiangmai, and one here in southern california. I find myself fighting with the idea of selling the house here in the USA and just retiring in thailand, I think the first steps going to be renting it out .... I'm 60, we'll see how long I can hold out. :)

Hello, Chris. Drinking in the car or tuktuk or bus is illegal in Thai. Love your video then I have to tell you.

Went to an upstairs "show bar" in Patpong about a decade ago - in spite of the warnings. "Stupid human tricks", shooting objects across the stage, razor blades being "extracted" and finally - the live sex show. I had to leave. It was perhaps the most humiliating thing I had ever seen a person participate in. Lucky thing I was allowed to leave, without a rediculously padded tab (I paid or my one beer, as soon as I received it), nor being threatened for not tipping the staff. Never again!

Great video Chris. I end up with a soaked crotch here quite often - for various reasons. I used to get a tuk tuk from Suhk to home over the river, maybe once a week, just for fun before WFH. Drinking Leos and smoking LM daengs and seeing everything up close. I never get sick of it! I go to Patpong occasionally. It used to have some great little bars. Has slowly degraded over the years and now the banana boyz have moved in. The land must be worth squintillions. Can't see it lasting much longer.

I remember the fear we had on our first trip into a few of those clubs in Bangkok back in 94. We're still alive and you're still telling "the story". Nice that I get to relive my birthday celebration as well. Thanks for the memories P. Here's to making some new ones real soon hopefully.

I am with you Chris, there is far more to the Country than the red light districts. 18 is probably fair. It certainly isn't why I visit. My gem (but not Bangkok) is Maya Bay but i found somewhere equally as stunning, Lao Ladings

Tell ya what Chris, the awkward shirt really stands out proud under UV. Should have kept your beer stained pants, ya might be the odd one out now. As for the next video I'll go with a massage. This seems to follow the list. Or buy a suit

I preferred your expat living videos, personally. You’re going the Dave Attel (comedian) route on this one by imitating his best series “Insomniac” on TV some 12 years ago. This is alright in my book- seeing activities all hours of the night besides the tourist trap go-go bars. You’re making a name for yourself if you keep this up, just like Dave Atell did- he got so popular that he lost his anonymity going from city to city, it ruined his series later on because everyone around him was vying for an act in front of the camera.

7:35 lmao... Some things never change! If I were to offer a single, paramount piece of advice to a newcomer planning their first visit to Patpong, it would be to absolutely avoid heading upstairs for the ping pong show.

I haven't been to Patpong but I have been in Pattaya Walking Street. I would love to check out the energy and excitement of Patpong. Who doesn't enjoy a good party night 🤪🍻🍺 Do you feel there is a difference between Patpong and Walking Street in Pattaya?

Hey Chris, great tour! Looks like you had a silly fun time! I got a Telya and all the times I’ve been to Thailand, one of the most things that I learned was to put ice in my beer. Never really liked the condoms on my bottle so always ask for a glass and ice. I even do it here in the US… Definitely enjoying this countdown to number one! I’m finding some cool places to go on my next trip…thanks bud!

i've never be to patpong, my friend who has lived in thailand for a longtime and sometimes puts on tours of the party area's recommended against it. His words were "you would end up getting fleeced by a ladyboy". I've also heard the bars can be a bit aggressive about not letting you leave a tab padding

Things have changed in Patpong. It is becoming an interesting cultural mix of burlesque and bohemian. Last night I played a jazz show at an art exhibition in Club Black (Black Pagoda's back room), along with people in rubber being tied up and suspended. It is not just a sex-tourist area. And the "fleeced by a ladyboy" comment... is your friend an old white sex-pat by any chance lol. The bars are not aggressive at all. They are well-run and perfectly safe for tourists. I understand this negative view of Patpong - but it is well out of date.

@@the-selfish-meme7585 no he isn't. He's a middle aged teacher with thai wife and 2 kids. To be fair the comment was made about 8 years ago on my first visit and I guess it wasnt a place for a rookie to go, and based on your comments I am assuming it's improved.

A group of girls from Australia asked me to take them to one of these places. They ended up so disgusted after 10 minutes they made a beeline for the door. They didn't want to touch the door handle but the worker inside was attentive enough to know this and let us all out.
