This is one of those shows that, the more I think about it, the more my thoughts on the show shifts. This video is just one point in my evolving thoughts, but as a gut reaction... that ending was not it for me . While I'm def. biased, it's not even, ultimately about the gay and getting Rio and Agatha together - I wasn't necessarily expecting that. Just more of a internal journey for what was meant to be the protagonist.

i read the interview with detractor of the show that more details of Agatha and rio relationship will be answered in future show's, also Agatha roll in the mcu and comics was never big and important in the first place, so even the fact that we got an Agatha tv show was amazing and again we will see them again in other shows ( with langth) and hwo know maybe they will beary the hatchet?

I think Agatha being a ghost in the comics and Billy being such a large part of the young avengers stopped me thinking it was unfair that he was such a central character and made her death inevitable. I liked that Rio wasn't a villain, as death isn't, and I liked that the show didn't try to redeem Agatha but rather just explain how she came to be. Each trial was a witch dealing with their trauma and Jen being the one who lived at the end was perfect. The writing was really clever and the performances wonderful so I loved it to be honest.

I'm glad you enjoyed! I agree, there were some narrative requirements so Agatha as a ghost was inevitable and Billy is an important character in the bigger Marvel universe.

I agree, but i still don’t like this decision tho i was prepared for it from the start knowing comics and mcu plans, i hope she gets resurrected at some point like in the comics, i want her powerful, or they can work around with her ghost form giving her special abilities to play with.

@@100percentshipper I like to think Ghost Agatha haunts Death sometimes lol That said we do know a deleted scene had Rio following Agatha and Billy through the door. If the success of the show convinces marvel to do more then hopefully they'll meet again.

I honestly don't feel everything has to be spoon-fed. They left things to the imagination that can be left for the imagination. They left enough hints on how their relationship was, and the kind of emotions Rio feels from loving Agatha so much and being hurt because Agatha doesn't see how big letting Nicky love 6 years actually was.

I didn't mind the trials as much as you seemed to, though maybe, not really being a fantasy/MCU type person, I didn't take them very seriously. I did feel short changed by the ending though. A series with a gay female lead and lots of good female characters and it turns out to have all been about the boy? Seriously? The patriarchy still lives it seems, even with a female showrunner.

Yeah, that rankles. They couldn't tell us the show was about Billy so they hid him behind Agatha I guess.

Y’all are worried about the wrong thing. The show isn’t about ur sexual beliefs. These are still comics. And Agatha is and always was a side character. Her story intertwined with Wanda and her kids. Not the other way around. It’s great for what it is. But anyone who knows the comics knows that in the end she was gonna be setting up a story for someone else. Her role is to essentially be the devious fairy godmother. Otw as always gonna be that way. What purpose would it serve to make the story all about her and rio? What would the ending be?
@100percentshipper27 күн бұрын
@@TheIcemanthomas For me it was more that if you are going to give a character an entire show, call it Agatha All Along - make it about Agatha. It can also be about Billy and his intro as Wiccan that's fine, just don't pull the rug out on the lead and imo all it would have taken is Agatha forgiving Rio. It's not about it being gay, but that Agatha and Rio's relationship revolved around her grief for son, so some movement on that dynamic felt necessary to give payoff. Knowing she's a minor character makes only makes the disappointment bigger because she'll be pushed to the periphery going forward, this was her best chance to have her story get some kind of conclusion.
@Dosmthnew27 күн бұрын
@@100percentshipperexactly, all of it, but how any mother can just forgive someone who took her son away? It wasn’t gonna happen here. Agatha needed to understand it wasn’t Rio’s wish, for that she needed to accept actual death as part of life, she couldn’t do it coz of grief for her son, but in the end she’s on her way to this, because she 1) stopped killing others to survive, didn’t trade Billy for herself 2) Accepted inevitability of her own death by giving up to Rio 3) Let herself show her feelings for Rio despite Rio doing her death job - kissed her. Next step for her ghost self would be getting more and more understanding of death concept, and ideally meeting Rio half way somewhere, but we know for now she’s gonna be helping disrupting balance and annoying Rio instead.
@Dosmthnew27 күн бұрын
@@TheIcemanthomasthis argument is always so funny. Agatha was a side character UNTIL she wasn’t, they made a decision about HER own show after her success on WV, she was supporting there and she is the LEAD here, her name’s on shows title? do you know the difference? If it was Billy show or Vision spinoff where his son Billy the main character found side character WV Agnes/Agatha to help him find brother, no one would be as confused, when she was killed off to save him and returned as a ghost just to be HIS guide.

I watched the show having never watched any marvel before. While I didn’t necessarily “get” all the Easter Eggs in episode 1, I found them fascinating and it made me want to “lean in” and understand more. I like witches and witchcraft plain and simple. That’s why I watched. The romance with Rio and Agatha was beautiful and while I’m coming from an uneducated place, I’m also coming from the place you were saying it “wouldn’t make sense” to.

Great video. I believe Agatha was going to forgive Rio in Episode Four because she believed Billy was her son, somehow reincarnated or revived. Notice how Agatha pulls away the moment Rio tells her that Billy isn't her son. Feelings/emotions aren't logical, so despite Agatha's awareness that Death is simply Rio's job, Agatha cannot forgive her. Forgiveness might have been on the table, though, had Billy turned out to be Nicky.
@Dosmthnew27 күн бұрын
Agatha knew he wasn’t her son, she just projected her feelings, it’s more of, she thought Rio didn’t take him because she asked her, but it wasn’t true, plus Rio showed her regret she had to take Nicky. And Rio didn’t let Agatha kiss her under false pretence as if everything was repaired.

The pacing really threw me off throughout the series. On top of the points that you brought up I feel like reaction/ emotional shots were not evenly spread out across the series. Especially the trial episodes, I would’ve liked to see more reactions from the group, giving us insight into what they each might be thinking, and give us greater insight into the coven as a whole. I think there was a major imbalance of reaction/emotional shots between Billy centric moments and everyone else.

i think the director said they left a lot out of their relationship bc it wasn’t vital to the story they were telling about why agatha does what she does and her relationship with her son. that reveal is the payoff. they’ve been building up to it with all the references abt her son and everything. and they have Death there to symbolize how Death yearns for Agatha but Agatha keeps running. eventually, it’s the “second son”, and the memory of her first son, that pushes Agatha to embrace Death.

N ah. It was always going to focus on Billy. You gotta remember this is Marvel and they have the overarching plot. They needed to bring in Wiccan, they needed Ghost Agatha to be a mentor. Jac had to follow those instructions and work around that. Wish there had been more, but personally I always kept in mind that whole marvel thing. Especially after Funko leak about Wiccan and Death particularly for who they are in the comics

You managed a 22-minute video of a 10-second kiss. Brilliant! 😍 What they did here was to replace Lady Death's love for Thanos with her love for Agatha. LD was so devastated for getting dumped, that she lost her will to be immortal. Very similar in the MCU here in Rio, a mortal character (LD entered the body of a mortal guy and waited for an end that never came). I really liked what they did with her in this series. She's more interesting now, not because she's "gay", but because she's heartbroken and out for blood, not just to lay down and let time do his (yeap, time is a he in the comics) job. It was Agatha all Along thou. She was the one who raised Wanda's children (not mentioned in the MCU, but part of the comics), and she was the one who created the myth of the Witches' Road based on her son's ballad. That was what attracted Billy towards Agatha. My issue with him in the show was that they used AAA to launch him into the MCU. They could've done it better, but then again, Agatha was in Wanda's world, so why not put her in Billy's? She's a villain, no matter how warm they try to make her heart. After all, she's the daughter of Mephisto.

Thank you for the video. But I will mention that the Showrunner said that Agatha did not intentionally kill Alice.(while Agatha is a Liar, it is often when she is telling the truth that she's called a liar.) My take of the scene watching it in slowmo--When her mother is blasted out of her, Agatha starts coming into consciousness, and instinctually starts "feeding" or getting her "fix". Agatha's facially expressions show she is mortified. Which is kinda funny, as Agatha was ready to deliberately blast Alice a few hours before. Anyone I want to congratulate Marvel for entering the 20th century, maybe in 30 years they can enter the 21st. But after watching straight reactions(and it's a straight world), I will also congratulates the makers of Agatha all along for making a heteronormative show. Agatha is pursued by a crazy women stalker. Somewhere Agatha meets a nice man who gives her a boy child the normal way. Only for the crazy woman stalker to kill it. Then she meets another boy, who the crazy woman stalker wants to kill. So Agatha sacrifices herself (because that's what women are suppose to do) for the child, by kissing a woman. (that's what happens when you kiss a woman, you die)) As reward for going maternal, Agatha gets to live as ghost in service to the young prince. Oh, and Jen is allowed to survive because she's a midwife. Having babies is the most important duty, fulfillment of every woman. So while this show has gay characters, it tells a heteronormative narrative. It's like it was written by a liberal Phyllis Schlafly

I hadn't even thought of that angle. There is certainly a creeping feeling around that something isn't quite right and I'm still trying to fully put my finger on it - I think for me it's the fact that Agatha doesn't get any real progress as a character and attaches herself to a boy that reminds her of her son, motivated by a grief she refuses to face, gets her magic back only to die and now has no real powers except what she gets through mentoring Billy. She got shafted on her own show.

For once I actually dont mind and care about the woke agenda for a show because they didn't try to shove it in our throat. Billy being gay isn't a huge deal or his whole personality, they made it subtle. Agatha and death's love is more of a symbolic thing than actual lesbian relationship. What I am saying might be just some stupid thing but the fact that almost all woke agenda Marvel show got it wrong and it takes some witches who are on a road to get it right is crazy.
@juonithzramos108925 күн бұрын
Was the show a tad disjointed? sure. But I think overall it hit well. I kind of like how Agatha didn't forgive Rio at the end because it makes Rio a more sympathetic character- longing for a forgiveness she shouldn't seek, while allowing Agatha to remain the selfish, cowardly villain she is. I also disagree about the whole "Billy All Along" thought because in the end, Agatha was manipulating him throughout the show. The literal kiss of death was a bummer, but in my basic heart it was just so juicy I gave it a pass, especially knowing that Agatha returned as a ghost--which allows for the story of Rio and Agatha to play out a little longer, and I'm all for delayed gratification. (Is there anything more gay?) I felt that having Agatha and Rio's complex past be run through in one 9 episode season would have been a disservice to the 300+ year situationship. (I also don't agree with your opinion that Agatha needed to be shown to be softer. I personally loved that she was basically unlikable the whole show. She is who she is. I understand that she is guarded and catty and spiteful and selfish and she's perfect that way. She doesn't have to be "redeemed" to be loved, or to be worthy of it.)
@100percentshipper24 күн бұрын
Each to their interpretation! It's always interesting to hear how others view things. For me Agatha forgiving Rio wouldn't have changed Agatha being the complicated person she is, it wouldn't have been a moment of redemption (and I think the fact that death loves Agatha is narrative enough that she is loved regardless of being 'redeemed' or not), it just would have given the series a sense of closure. It literally could have been Agatha saying 'My Love' as she levitated to her death and removing Billy's lines about how Nicky died, what a silly add-in and it would have played so differently. Instead were left with so many dangling threads and no resolution to this major storyline. They may get a continuation of their story in future Marvel titles but I don't know that it'll get the treatment it deserves given how many other more major characters there are to write for and so I'm looking at this from the perspective of this limited series and not possible future story for Agatha. Thanks for you comment!
