As I enjoyed learning what happened next, this episode depressed me. I'm all alone and I am still grieving losses, but I'm not bedridden, thank The Good LORD above. Every day I push myself to do the daily chores that must be done. This episode made me sad to the point I almost crawled into bed. Hopefully, part three won't be as maudlin, but I noticed a year spoken, as I was curious to ascertain how close time was progressing towards that dreadful year 1929. But I'm anxious to watch part three because I do enjoy Miss Sally Field tremendously. She portrays Elizabeth Steed excellently. ❤

Part three please. I love the entire production. The ending with a progressive marriage contract is adorable. Sally Field is made for this portrayal of a young Southern belle going through multiple losses and ending victorious.

Yes, so strange that she could she have declined him... Even her daughter pointed out at the time how it was not fair towards the two men she was tagging along at the same time. To then be angry with Arthur, after she was the one who had declined his proposal... What was she thinking; what would happen if Arthur started helping her lonely, divorced friend? Then feeling sorry for herself, after he had left her, and to continue to be as rude and distant towards Sam for so long; in spite of how much her children obviously would have benefitted from her marrying him, while grieving for everyone from her past who was not there - including her mother... Really! Was very much relieved that she did eventually came to her senses... She must have been brainwashed by feminist literature; hence her rebellion against supposed restricting, conventional expectations of society?

I love this miniseries. My son was supposed to be an extra in one of the scenes. The scene got cut out and after being there a couple of hours we were told. They paid my son $50 even though he didn't work.

I Worked As An Extra On This Film ( Galveston, Tx. 1995 ) Sally was Going Thru a Divorce and Sad. The Camera Had to do retake, because in train scene, I stopped in my tracks when I saw Andy Garcia, My Jaw Dropped. Never heard of him b4 that scene. Electrifying!!! Experience, ruined the scene.

Indeed sometimes you have to push her daughter in law. There's a time to grieve, and wallow depression you can't just snap out of it, but it does need that push. It's painful, but very needed at times. But push someone to far you push them away. But she's up 😊😢😢❤❤Jess

Even though Bess lost her husband who was her childhood sweetheart when he was still young, and then her oldest son to spinal meningitis, and suffered the censure of her mother-in-law, she did get past her grief sufficiently to love again. I loved the scene with Sam where she insisted he sign the legal document making the financial arrangements to keep their incomes separate. Sally Field's acting was terrific. Actually everyone in this movie was great; I got lost in the story the way you should in a good movie.
