This song has the characteristic sound of the Beatles. But Peter and Gordon performed it very well and made it a hit. And although 53 years have passed since it was released it is still good to hear.

Imagine that Paul McCartney wrote this song and then gave it to Peter and Gordon without publicly taking credit for it. That is truly amazing! Most song-writers would be glad if they could create even one such excellent pop song in their lives - and McCartney has created litterally hundreds of them - truly, he is one of the greatest song writers who ever lived - his gift for melody is phenomenal and as Lennon observed, he also writes very good lyrics. My mother actually met him on an airplane once coming back from the Caribean and she got his autograph - she says he was very gracious and polite to everyone, a real gentleman.

I was born in 1956 and the songs from the 50's and 60's are the best. I was fortunate enough to grow up listening to songs like this. The garbage nowadays doesn't come close to the simple, pure, fantastic sounds, of the 50's and 60's.

I agree with you, I'm 56 and I witnessed the revolutionary music of the 60's, (and all the changes that came with it) especially The Beatles. Listening to The Beatles and this kind of music motivated me to learn English. To this day, I still think the 60's was the greatest decade in music history.

One of the key factors of Paul's standard of musicianship and songwriting is that (apart from being a true musical genius) he has always been extremely critical to his own compositions. This song is the perfect example - it became #1 hit, was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 best songs that that shaped rock and roll, and still, Paul thought the song was not worthy of recording by his own band (the Beatles)... Not to be surprised that Paul had (and still has) a recurring nightmare - that he is on a stage, with the Beatles, or Wings, or with his recent band, and the audience starts leaving, and even "Hey Jude" can not stop the audience from leaving... Can you believe Paul is having such nightmares?!

It's strange but this song is simply etched into my mind. I was only 4 years old back when the song was released but for an unknown reason peter & gordon just struck a chord and the lyrics just entered my fragile mind and made me believe in The message that I DONT CARE WHAT THEY SAY I WONT STAY IN A WORLD WITHOUT LOVE. well reality in life has taught me that hatred & persecution is a part of this planet earth and i cant zoom off to another perfect world oh well.?

I recently watched a McCartney interview with Howard Stern, and he intimated that he wrote a few song for Peter and Gordon while staying at the Asher house with his then girlfriend. What I don't understand is how he considered this song a throwaway song based on having no intention of doing it with the Beatles. I think this song is precisely a Beatles song considering their sound at the time.

She was at the concession stand, looking so beautiful and sweet, and I thought I had no chance of meeting and getting to know her. When this song played over the speakers, I thought I would die. I have never gotten over how a simple song can so perfectly express an emotion in a way that words can't. Good or bad, this is what I try to do, to this day.
