I would also like to add that there are players that wouldnt mind the grind since the game has absolutely no p2w. Remember when you got your first green weapon in WoW? You felt like a god for a short amount of time. That feeling is back, and this game is in a very bare alpha state. The reason the crafting is so complex is because you are not supposed to be able to craft a weapon or piece of armor by yourself. Its called an economy. You gather, or process, or craft what you can using components crafted by others that you buy or trade, and then sell or trade the products you produce to others. That's the way it works in real life. It is more challenging, but that is also its appeal. The same can be said of the node progression system. The citizens of a node work together to gather and produce the resourses needed to build the new buildings in their city.This gives them access to higher level crafting stations. Unlike Wow you have to work with this stations, they are not provided for free. All in all I find it satisfying

To take part in Ashes you should already know that from day 1, this game was never intended to be for "everyone". And please dont push for that. There are already games where you port to the dungeon front door leaving the map empty feeling, games with 90 dollar auction houses that go everywhere you go, games with max level boost for a small fee, games with reflective vest yellow icons over the path you "must" take to progress, games with greens rewarded every other quest turn in. Alot of this is exactly what ruined my WOW experience which is why i still hang in there in classic era. Trying to make sonething for " everyone" just ensures it belongs to no one, instead let it be and allow this group to have its home and the rest can try it and go right back to retail where you get everything your advocating for.

Definitely looking forward to your follow up videos when we go into Phase 2 and whether or not Intrepid hits their goal. Additionally, one of the complaints often heard during the build up for A2 from Steven was that starter zones in other MMO's are often empty wastelands because all the players are in the end game zones. I suspect the resource distribution is designed the way it is in conjunction to your point on "coming back to the starting area after getting some levels". I would say it needs some fine tuning for sure, (I would kill for copper right now) but if the goal is to make the starting zones more viable I'm all for it. Big thing people arent going to understand and will need to get used to is what exactly Ashes gameplay loops are. Its not a rush max level so you can actually play the game type of game, even though it does have content that incentivizes getting to max level. Its a do anything you want within reason 2nd life type of game and they give you a bunch of potential things to do. Just to list a few thing that come to mind: Want to become a grandmaster artisan? Gather, process or craft gear. Want to be with a large guild going for the "big shot" content like owning a castle and ultimately being able to influence an entire section with multiple nodes of the 1200 square kilometer world? Focus leveling and getting gear while finding the best guilds around. Want to create more RPlike content such as being a caravan guard, mercenary, merchant ect? Find or make a group or simply market yourself and do exactly that. Want to be a bandit or pirate? Either solo or in a group use spies, snitches or luck to find caravans to raid on the roads or open seas, or just rob people you come across although there are heavy consequences for murder where they dont fight back. Want to own your own plot of land, house, apartment or room in an inn and just exist in the world potentially as a citizen of a node? Go ahead. Want to fight for justice against all the corrupted evil doers? Become a bounty hunter and gain the ability to literally hunt down bad guys while getting rewarded for doing so The only downside to sandbox style games is that you have to create your own content/goals since you arent just following a scripted storyline, but with Ashes even simply being a citizen in a node gives constant content. If they release everything they promise the game will be massive with almost infinite things to do that arent just get max level and do dungeons until you have all the best in slot gear and the look you want or get to max level and achievement hunt.

The crafting is convoluted because it's going to be central to endgame content. The Riverlands biome isn't a starting zone, it's an all levels zone, as other biomes will be. Basalt and other "low level" materials are intended to be relevant through the end game. The diversity of materials present is a different diversity than what will be available in say, desert biomes. And as everyone around the world will need various materials, this will be the backbone of global trade, which will fuel world pvp and server politics

The crafting is not even close to finished, but it isn't supposed to be simple and easy. The questing isn't flushed out at all, and that isn't even the goal at this phase of testing. The event system is meant to replace a good amount of questing and bring players in an area together to encourage more group play. This is not the new WoW, but I think it is going to be much better when it is complete in 2056.

You weren't able to refine your uncommon zinc because you didn't pay enough attention to the crafting window to notice the option to switch from common to uncommon to rare...etc, yet you mention it as a downside? Infact this game reminds me of Vanguard a LOT, right down to the massive open world with no flying mounts and non-instanced dungeons, great crafting and so on. They couldn't survive because they pushed out casuals (Specially wildstar). It's just the reality of the world we live in now with the MMO scene, it's now filled with people crying about how they "dont have time for these grinds" and want skips or boosts, and the amount of money spent on this its going to need a lot of players to maintain it longterm. People that actually like MMORPGs, and RPGs in general love this. It's people that DON'T play video games that won't play it. And to be frank, fuck'em. People who don't play video games ruined WoW. They ruined ESO, and every other MMORPG by tempting the developers to make a game they don't even like more catered to them. I have a tank lvl 13 in one weekend. Lvl 1-10 was m i s e r a b l e I'll admit. And considering you can't even join a node until 10, and group content isn't really a thing until then, I can see people that would be into crafting would be like eff this if they accidentally picked a tank. That being said, I think once crafting xp and quests are more fleshed out, I think lvling will be more smoothed out. It takes like 10% effort to create mobs to grind, but the other 90% effort to make quests, events, and adventuring content to lvl on.

I think it’s funny how every reviewer says, I like the game but I don’t know if many people will. I think there will be a lot of surprised reviewers… most games today are made to make money not please players… this seems to have changed with AOC. I hope more developers take notice.

i gave up on crafting xD too complicated but i think they said it will be more understandable when they get to it also when auction houses get online u wouldnt need to lvl up more stuff and just buy what u need i guess

"not going to talk about what it isnt" - proceeds to talk how questing isnt good. The server is currently testing stability with a lot of active players on it. They have said that questing is not being worked at (there's a separate phase for that). Economy, balancing, professions, leveling experience... none of these currently matter or are being put any effort into at all. Its ALPHA TESTING SERVER STABILITY. A fact that i feel like every review channel just doesnt care about. (they say they do, but then they dont actually consider it when doing the review).

Honest review. It is EQ all over again, in a slightly different way, but Many of the same systems, ideas, UI, mobs, stats, crafting, etc. 2026 seems a plausible release date. Maybe. I predict at level 50 is the first cap and a cleric will have Ressuerction an ability to bring the character back to life and give his neg Death Exp back. 😶

If the WoW players are looking for a game more like WoW, they should play WoW. Not to mention, they're the same trolls who immediately scream WoW Clone the second tbey play something similar to WoW. Just stay where you are and let the people who enjoy a more difficult game enjoy.

Been playing since weekend 1 and still cant get enough. The quests ARE hot garbage though, but the story arcs aren't in at all, and a lot of it is placeholder, so we'll see where they're at when phase 2 hits on Dec 20th 2024.

to be honest i played for 2 weeks in 6h sessions per day and i'm level 14, it's too much grind. I won't start the game again until they make questing better or set the XP grinding to a normal pace, I don't feel like living in this game for 24 hours . I totaly agree whit MetaGoblin

All the downsides you pointed out are intentionally 'light' in this version of the testing. I really wish streamers would do a little bit of research before they talked about a game.

To be honest, all of the gripes that I'm hearing in this video sounds like a problem with modern MMO players, and not an issue with the game. They're all too used to being handed XP like it's candy, and not getting to experience a real game where you get to experience the journey and the world it takes place in. From everything I've seen and heard from the developers, they aren't going to shed a single tear if they don't bring in all the players. They are aiming to make a game that appeals to a particular subset of player, and certainly aren't looking to be the next WoW. If you want to try to compare the two, you are definitely going to find discrepancies, and probably get frustrated. Basically, I guess what I'm saying is this: enjoy the game for what it is (or what the developers are trying to make it), not what you would like it to be. Otherwise, you'll always find it coming up short.

Slow Leveling for the WIN !.! THIS is what makes it a REAL MMO Makes the levels matter. Makes being banned matter. Makes BOTS and RMT punishable. the game doesn't start at max level.
@Penumbra-AoCАй бұрын
also, Quests are not yet developed. it is understood that Questing needs to be upgraded. It's not just ALPHA.. this is PHASE ONE of A2. Phase one is about stability and server issues.
@Penumbra-AoCАй бұрын
the dust (Glint) dropped by mobs isn't really for selling you use Glint to buy Commodities which you then load into your Caravan the further you transport these goods the more return on your investment this also makes it harder for BOTS and RMT cheaters.

Overall a nice video tho I must say a number of the negatives you mention are a lack of information on your part. Not all but I hope folks take this video with that understanding. AoC is a very complex game.

Maybe not modern retail enjoyers who are used to buying character boosts or leveling form 1-70 in a few hours. But I think true classic enjoyers would. It def took some time to lvl back in the day.

I remember when my MMOs had no quest, and killing was how you leveled lol,, and when it took month or so to hit max level, WoW ruined brains of MMO players, and I can't believe its been 20 years of that

70% solo content, in a Massive Online game, sounds dumb, almost as bad a SWTOR which is a single player game with people on the server as you

im assuming tank is a placeholder name and a better name like "knight" will follow but also only having one tank is kinda boring, especially when its just a sword and board plate wearer, where is the originality? why not a tank fighter? even a tank ranger for a twist? just SOME variety for us tank players please, every single game has a tank n spank warrior it's so boring at this point.
@Servtar2 ай бұрын
There will wind up being a lot of different flavors of tank later on when they add the archetype system in. But right now the “tank” class is the only tank until then.

This game is BAD at holding players, i was stuck at a quest for 9h just to figure out it was bugged. im still lvl 4 and cant use the sawmill and had to spend 5h figuring out that you need to go to another city to use it Im out that was my weekend
@temijinkahn5112 ай бұрын
This game does not reward dumb players. At level 10, there is a power boost as new abilities harmonize with earlier one to give more tactical options as well as level locked gear becomes wearable. A level 10 weapon will double your base dps for example. This is alpha 2, so many features are bare bones. The goal of this stage is about server stability. Every weekend, the game is twice as good as the last weekend. Stop comparing an alpha game to a released game. It is just foolish.

I wish this game was easier because o suck and I'm used to WoW and want a easy life.
@cppgod35272 ай бұрын
Maybe this is just me, but am I the only one who feels like the game lacks "flair", or perhaps a better art-style direction? For instance, if I look at a screenshot of the game without HUD I can't tell what game it is, it just looks like an unreal engine MMORPG. Get a screenshot of a game with good art direction like Valorant, Elden Ring or WoW and you can almost always IMMEDIATELY tell what game it is, even if it's a screenshot of a simple structure or landscape that doesn't reveal gameplay concepts. The game feels "cheap" in a way? Everything always feels overly bright or overly dark, the color grading seems to suck ass, there's no ambiance.
@andrew26162 ай бұрын
Ya slow leveling is going to kill the game for sure. Unless there is some RPG style like FF 14 but if not then people will just quit. Especially if there are 64 specs to play. People will want to explore that and have fun but can’t because of the leveling.
@KonamisQuestАй бұрын
I get the point of this game and the type of playerbase they want to attract but does that type of player even exist in enough numbers to support a game like this? I'm almost 40, first MMO was EQ1 and I would rather just spend a few hours a week on Diablo 2 or something similar than to sit down for years of my life in the current social landscape of "big" or "MMO" games. I also have a distaste for companies milking consumers for nearly a decade for something "they" decided to make.

Hou really harp on about leveling here. I would like to point out that the only content that exist in this testing alpha is leveling. What im saying is: at launch bieng at these lower levels is still apart of the system, stuff like the artisan trees, node citizen ship, and even gear crafting for those levels is apart of the game, not something you try and skip as fast possible like literally every other mmo
@TED133EАй бұрын
Hope he never listens to you, make it as much like classic EQ as possible
