Hazy Rose Football has not the highest tv ratings for the simple fact its hidden behind a pay tv wall.For the international teams there will always be more viewers for the tournaments than the all irelands because it encompasses the whole country not just two counties.People will watch those games who have no interest in sport. Football support is all superficial foreign teams most of the participation is non competitive 5 asides in ireland soccer 34000 went to see the ladies football ireland and just 25000 went to the FAI cup final given how well dundalk are doing thats pathetic.Rugby atleast is based on the provincial teams of this country and it is a far better game..The GAA has stronger roots it has the best infrastructure the highest club membership and the highest attended sports though rugby is close. Finallly GAA and soccer have being in competition for along time.70s it was soccer in the 80s GAA in the charlton era it was soccer in the noughties GAA.Now probably football ,but not as high as you think. Finally i would not crow to much about rugby it s just as likely to bite your nilball in the backside as the GAA.It has far better stadiums far more exciting.However rugby participation is far bellow either sport.There are more soccer clubs in dublin than they rugby clubs in the whole of ireland the same goes for the GAA there are more GAA clubs in cork 260 to rugby clubs in ireland 223.Rugby participation has actually gone down since professionalism. Football is popular because it appeals to the lowest common denominator its a poor sport for poor people

No doubt football has its unsavory characters, but more middle class and upper class people enjoy the sport than they do bogball. Bogball was lawyas a poor sport for piss-poor farmers, who believe in shit like Creationism and vote for retards like the Healy-Rae brothers. As for rugby, it only turned pro in 1995 and the Irish team are one of the best in the world. It's on the ascendancy. Just like League of Ireland football. The GAA tried to suppress football and rugby with their xenophobic rules 27 and 42, but the Irish are starting to develop a taste in real sports.
