Nice! I especially love that start-painting studies where you do the 9 on the paper. Great concept. I've been trying to get into gouache for a while since they're really good for plein aire. Seeing this inspires me to really get back into that! Loved it!

Really GOOD stuff, Mr. Kennedy ! "Burn it," I think NOT !! Your LANDSCAPES are inspirational. Thank you for sharing your wonderful work

Thats nice of you to say, its been a year and all those paintings have been destroyed or lost :) but i made new ones.
@blusnuby26 жыл бұрын
Oh no ! Say it ain`t so !! Your landscapes have that 1930`s California School of Impressionism going on, as well as a definite Cezanne-esque quality that REALLY appeals ! ALWAYS keep your work(s); you`ll feel differently in ten years. Trust me. If anything, they are the guideposts along your creative trail, and will be fun for you to look back upon when you are rich and famous. Picasso had over 5000 works stored-away when he crossed-over...You have been blessed with loads of TALENT; pinch yourself !

I'm in love with your Gouache paintings!!! *-* Will you post some tutorials? Or just a 'list' of what you have learnd about Gouache so far? I just started painting with Gouache a month ago and i really would like to learn a lot More about this amazing medium!

What material do you use to paint on? Some sort of wood panel?
@mayukhbanerjee11472 жыл бұрын
Anyone knows what material paintings are on? Are those cardboard or something? Seems pretty sturdy
@callmedeno5 жыл бұрын
I may have missed it but it doesn't look like you use much transparency in the gouache like watercolor, would it be fair to say you use it mostly opaquely? Have you gotten much joy with blending? I'm new to gouache and two problems I have are the almost complete lack of blending ability, as well as poor results with lighter mixes (more transparent, more water)
@cirimaxg6512 жыл бұрын

Very inspiring video! I'm an oilpainter and bought gouache yesterday to try a new medium. I make my own panels from mdf with three layers of gesso, can these panels be used for gouache you think?
@NicholasKennedy7 жыл бұрын
Hi Conny, I am also an oil painter and I am very familiar with that surface, Im not 100% sure if it would work. You should totally try it though! In my experience gouache works best on an absorbent surface like illustration board.

@trishatan15347 жыл бұрын
These are just absolutely stunning! Your paintings are so beautiful and your technique is amazing! I really love all the sceneries you painted, personally, it's difficult for me to go to different places and paint, so seeing you being able to do so inspires and makes me a bit envious. May I ask what you bring with you when painting stuff like this? Like, do you just brung some brushes and the primary colors? Or much more? Cause I can't seem to find a good balance between enough materials and too little
@NicholasKennedy7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! As far as what I bring, my studio set up is the same as my plein air set up, and I also keep it all packed in a backpack! I'll be able to answer this question in much more detail with a video, so Ill make one this week! :D

Hi Nicholas, What kind of illustration board do you use? Thanks
@NicholasKennedy6 жыл бұрын
Any kind, I like to experiment
@cmumford14777 жыл бұрын
Is the store open? Could not find it on your site.... Nick your gouache paintings are wonderful! You probably don't have time but - can you do more gouache demos? Or a dvd for purchase? No idea how to use this medium. I found one dvd but it did not really have any serious instruction to it. LOVE your work.
@NicholasKennedy7 жыл бұрын
Hi Cathy, The store officially opens on the 21 of February, but right now it is in a soft open, meaning that if you are able to find the link (its hidden in the video description) you can head to the shop and get first dibs on any of the paintings that are available! I am currently working on making an in depth gouache video that will be available for digital download, it wont be ready for a couple of months but stay tuned for updates! Thanks for the support, Nick!

Hi. I'm just learning how to paint and really like gouache - I'm wondering what you are painting on - it looks like board? Is there something you can use to prep surfaces onto surfaces to accept gouache? I'd love to try that. Thanks for posting :)
@NicholasKennedy6 жыл бұрын
its illustration board, the cheapest kind i find at the store. paint on anything man, experiment, try kraft paper or plates or cloth. it makes no difference, some materials wont take the paint well and some will, just experiment. thats what i did! i cant stress enough how little the paper matters
@jackya6 жыл бұрын
Thanks!

Nicholas, I really enjoyed your use of Colour. My control of it is really bad, but I really enjoy using gouache (even though I more usually use acrylic).Cheers, Andrew.
@NicholasKennedy7 жыл бұрын
Hey Andrew, Thanks for the kind words, My use of color always come secondary to my use of value, often times I choose a random color JUST because it corresponds to the value I want. Best, Nick!
@MrMifune6667 жыл бұрын
Nick, that's right. Because of the flatter/opaque nature of gouache, Values and contrast become SO important. At school that was what I really had to come with grips wth to get a relatively successful result.
@NicholasKennedy7 жыл бұрын
Same! It took way longer than it should have for me to figure that out.
@batmandream127 жыл бұрын
love the video :D what do you use for paper/canvas? it's so stiff and nice

it does not matter what kind of board you use, personal preference. I cut them myself to a preferred size. Although now I work on pre cut linen panels as I am usually working with oils.
