I worry it might bring too much attention to the individual birds, it's like promoting beautiful children, someone is going to ruin it...

That would be fantastic as it would raise people's awareness and hopefully lower their ignorance about Corvids.

Loved it. So sorry to hear about Maude. This year has been a weird raven year here also. My familiar couple disappeared after 4 yrs., but I think the female may be back with a new mate, as a raven comes in and talks to me in the morning like she used to. I think it might be her or one of her off spring. Also the favorite "runt" offspring from last summer, I believe is back as yesterday, a raven was 10 ft. from my door in the tree calling until I came out and she was the only one that would come that close last summer (she also has a very shy mate with her). So, back to observing & trying to figure out who is who and what's up with all the changes this year. Good to hear from you and seeing things are going okay at Crystal Cove. Love your new young friend and can't believe how that raven came to you at the State Park. I think you might be "a raven whisperer" as they relate to you so well.

@@Spike1885 great news! I started feeding Crows (mainly peanuts in shell) and over time they will develop trust. I have fed them diligently for about 4 to 5 yrs now. They allow me to get pretty close and always come when I whistle for them. I'm glad they dont trust 100 percent as I wouldn't want them to let there guard down because of the evil out their. I also have plenty of fresh water for them daily yr around as all birds need it but the Crows love to soak their peanuts (and other foods) in the water . They now call out me now.❤🐦💙👍😍

I love seeing these interesting creatures through the magic of your videos. Did you know that on Vancouver island we have a number of white ravens? These aren't albinos but rather very rare white ravens. As long as you post these glimpses into the life of ravens I will keep watching. Thanks for sharing your films!

Beautiful work! Music from beginning to end...lovely. Your humor helped to soften the sadness of the reality. I've been feeding a family of Crows (and many other species w them) for about 5yrs. I am drawn to Corvids for obvious reasons. As time passes my interaction w the Corvids increases to my delight. When I see Ravens , and not often. I try to make a connection with them by leaving them peanuts.

I'm not sure if I'm talking about ravens or crows, but, my husband was feeding 3 crows/ravens at work and one day he was sick and there appeared 3 crows/ravens on our porch and I think it was them bc we have no trees in our neighborhood to house them. This happened a few times.

Hi I very much enjoying your videos. I do have a question. I live in Shreveport Louisiana and I work at a convenient store; well last summer I fed this raven every day at the store and then did not see him again for like 6 months through the fall and the winter. Now he has returned since it is spring and began feeding him again. My question is can they follow you around the city bc this morning I could have sworn he was outside my house which is like 8 miles away.
@theravendiaries5 жыл бұрын
Hello mom ... I can only guess BUT I will say it wouldn't surprise me. It is possible you started feeding a young raven who hasn't found a lifetime mate yet. Perhaps he (she) remembered where there was a great food source (you) and returned. They do recognized both people and the cars they drive ... so ... the only way to know for certain is to find a unique marking on the bird (missing or bent feather, a hook on the end of the beak, a white spot somewhere ... or) and identify it that way? Share with us what you find!

Bless. I'm wondering if the new female that came out to help out Harold after Maude died is a previous juvenile from a former clutch? I've read crow older siblings from former years can help with younger broods. Or is that not a thing with ravens? I guess watching the behaviour with H will clarify. So that's great you've got a few new raven friends want to come home with you now? So what's next? I'm hooked. 😆✌
@theravendiaries4 жыл бұрын
As far as being a previous juvenile, that is a good question and we've certainly considered it, but I don't think I'll be able to be the one to answer that. The birds I work with are all wild, and we use absolutely no tracking or markings on them whatsoever. The parents kick out the kids when they are somewhere between 3 & 6 months old. There's only been a few exceptions and one was because one group of 6 juveniles seemly decided they didn't want to leave and they terrorized the adults all up and down the beach for almost a year. Sometimes in what I call the testing time, where it seems many couples get together and it "seems" like they are just checking to see if all the mates are still going to be with the same mate for the coming nesting season, I'll see some juveniles fly through as though to make sure everyone is happily paired up. Thus far, they are always driven away by one, and sometimes both of the established pair. A few times a year I'll see a group of 12 to 30 juveniles come through the park. Watching the adult pairs try to drive them out provides some of the best arial stuff of the year. So it is very possible, it could be a previous juvenile from any one of the couples down there, but I have no way of knowing. Maybe someday when we get chips that are small enough to be implanted without any possible problems (like using leg bands at the beach would get caught on fishing line) then maybe we can get a better answer to a number of questions; longevity, how far do they really travel, where do all these kids go? more precise pair bonding and mating behavior and others! In short, you may be right!
