The fact that you seem to have found the most personal peace and contentment you may ever have felt perhaps means that you’re now more reluctant to allow in floods of opinions and comments that could overshadow even a tiny bit of that. You’ll figure out what works for you, but you’ll always be someone worth listening to in my book. 😊

The way I think about KZbin and the whole 'saying what's already been said/making something that's worth watching' thing ... imagine your best friend in the world and all of the conversations you have with them ... you'd never sit there feeling bored, because you've heard someone else talk about a similar issue THEY are having, you've heard a similar opinion on this book or that movie ... you've heard similar jokes before, etc. You love the person and they are interesting because you love them. Parasocial relationships are SO like that! It might not be 'love' and it might be one-sided but as a viewer, I'd sooner listen to someone I've followed for a long time talk about something than someone totally new ... so while it might be out there online already, you might be the first/last person your followers will go to for thoughts on certain subjects (for example, you're the only 'theatre' person I follow! If it weren't for you I wouldn't have a NOTION of what's going on in the theatre world, I probably wouldn't even know what shows are running haha I've found out about half the shows that exist because you've mentioned them!). ANYWAY. I relate to so much in this video. Didn't mean to leave such a long comment on this one part of the video because so much of what you said, a lot of us are feeling (the over saturation, the cannot-be-arsed-anymore with voicing opinions on extremely divisive topics) so just want to send a virtual hug
@idk6144 Жыл бұрын
Came here to say something similar. While it may be over saturated information in Carrie’s world, for someone like me this is the only place I’d see it (in terms of theatre). Maybe starting with videos that come off more as “here’s what’s happening” vs “here’s my opinion” will be easier to make?

"It's overwhelming having people tell you what they think" oh my goodness, I'm glad I'm not alone in that. I find it so tiring that there are so many opinions on the smallest things that I do or don't do. It makes me feel so conscious and bizarre. You've had it so much more than me so I can't even imagine, I've never been as vulnerable as you in a video and I don't think I ever will to be honest, but I'm glad you always have been. You've always provided such a safe space on the internet for me and for everybody. We're able to have what feels like a friend chatting to us when we've not got anybody, and that's so special. I shared a video recently where I went on a cruise with my brother and I asked for a room with twin beds (LOVE your Disney cruise videos) and the comments ranged from saying all kinds of horrible things about how I must be doing nasty things (that I can't say here) with my brother to want to share a room with him to the other end of the scale saying what a prude I am for not wanting to share a bed with my brother. It definitely feels like you can't ever get away unscathed with the internet sometimes. Appreciate you millions though and I have done for years. You're not alone in these weird feelings. I think we need a support group. 💕😅

I can only speak for myself, but to me, I follow you, and have done for years, for you. I'm loving this calmer, wiser, more assured version of you you have grown to be, as that in many ways reflects my own growth through the years. It feels authentic. With that in mind, as long as you remain authentic to whatever on earth you might want to post/weigh in on, we will always be here to watch! Because we follow you for where your content comes from, you, not purely the content for contents sake. So everything is always a fresh perspective! Even if you were to start remaking videos you've made 10 years ago, they'd still feel fresh, as you've grown and developped since, and that's only healthy, and that is what brings us back.

Hey Carrie, I've been watching you for over 10 years now, started when I was 12, and I'm nearly 23 now. These types of videos always gave me great comfort back then in a time when I was feeling very lonely and like an outsider, and I'm immediately feeling that same type of tranquility now as I'm watching this video again. Life has been a rough rollercoaster, I even started out as a girl with the same curly hair as you watching these and being inspired in life, to now having transitioned a few years ago and being a guy with the same curly hair as you, still feeling inspired. I respect you greatly as a person, and I hope you find the exact balance you're looking for regarding producing content, and just know that all of it has meant a lot to me. Much love

To me, your videos will always still be unique whether 10 or 1000 people have shared their thoughts on the same topic before, because it is through YOUR lense and voice we get to see things. I've watched you for probably as long as you've been on youtube, and I've always enjoyed your videos a lot because of your charisma and the energy you put into the world. Thank you for still making videos after all these years, it brings so much joy and it's so comforting whenever I get to watch another upload from you! Hoping to one day get to see you in theatres too. 🥰

I'll add my own opinion. I'm a 54 year-old French woman raising American teenagers, including a daughter who loves you. After 5 years, we finally visited my parents in Paris, then went to London to see you. We missed your concert, but got to see you in the Crown Jewels. Such a joy and pleasure. Your humility is adorable and one of your qualities. However, some of us appreciate your voice, because we appreciate you. I do not follow influencers. But I love watching your videos because I find your personality enchanting, and refreshing, and you have achieved plenty, given us plenty to make us want to root for. You're not a just a youtube personality. You're an artist. I like hearing from you just like I enjoy hearing from my friends, and other people with talent. My 16 year-old feels the same way. She introduced me to you, despite the fact that we live in Arizona. It is wonderful, exciting that you are so often busy doing a lot of wonderful things, shows, concerts, blogs, books. Do what feels right in the moment and share that.

We love watching your videos (and seeing you in the theatre) as I am Disney and MT mad as is my 16 year old daughter. She is full of the insecurities you often talk about and her shyness and lack of body and self confidence will likely stop her from following her MT dreams which breaks my heart as she is beautiful and talented but doesn’t have the courage to be one of the ‘look at me’ kids. We also love watching creative people who bring beauty to the world (like yourself) and those who use their privilege to help others and make the world a better place - we definitely need more people like that in this crazy world. Keep being you and we’ll keep watching as you are so inspiring and a kind and gentle soul. 💕

Take your time, I know the internets changed over the years (even though some attitudes never have) and ofcourse you would grow and change and react to that. I can completely understand that it's more human to focus on the nasty comments than the kind ones but I think it shows how good you are as a person that you are still willing with this video to be open and vulnerable. Please know that there are people who will always be in your corner, I've followed you and supported you for years, from your clearing out my closet video. I know this is one comment among hundreds but I hope it can make you feel even 1% better. 💕

It's amazing how watching your videos seems to always voice ideas that have floated around my brain but never quite come into complete, understandably worded thoughts or opinions. I think it shows bravery even admitting anything like this online, and it's completely valid and understandable. Personally, I've always loved hearing different opinions and points of view, but in this modern world of people feeling increasing detachment from what they say online and who it affects, and everyone seeming to believe that it's OK to decimate anyone who doesn't share their precise views, I know I would be unimaginably overwhelmed and completely terrified to say anything! All I can say is that anybody who even deserves to comment on your open, honest and lovely channel/social media will *always* be respectful of any differing opinions. I've missed these sit-down, chatty videos; they feel sort of full-circle, like the videos you used to make at the very start of your channel, but with a newfound confidence and perspective, and perhaps this slightly more grounded maturity and wisdom. It makes me really sad that you might have felt scared or hesitant to make them because of the rudeness on the Internet. But I'm glad you're making them again, and I hope you know that we'll love any content you put out, regardless of whether we've already heard it a thousand times, or not even once!!

Every now and then, I'll have a look back through some of your older videos and it brings such joy to go back into that world for a while. It's priceless to just remember how life felt back then. Your audience has grown up, KZbin has changed, the world feels a different place! Everything you are saying makes such sense - and I think so much of it is a reflection of how everyone feels in today's society. So don't be harsh on yourself... if vlogs feel right for now, go with it. A few years down the line, everything might change again. All we can do is run with it :) x

Even if you end up sharing a similar opinion on a topic as someone else, I, for one, am absolutely gonna watch it purely because it's you. Thats the kind of fan base you have created. People love listening to you talk about different topics because you are genuinely such an interesting person. You're the reason I had the confidence to pursue Drama school and try to turn my hobby of community theatre into something I can do on a bigger scale. There is a real genuineness that anyone can see from miles away on your videos, that is missing from so many content creators these days, that is part of why your content stands out. Just take things one day at a time, and know how loved and supported you are ❤❤

Sometimes Carrie, its not so much about what you make that is worth watching or not, but that you ARE worth watching. You as a person, an individual, are worth investing our time and attention in right now. Sometimes we focus so much on what we do and not who we are. And yeah that's also scary because when people get invested in other people (people they don't even know in reality) they are more likely to act out when the person they invested in changes. But nonetheless, I'd like to say the above to take pressure off of creators to think of the most beautiful idea and make the best thing, when sometimes them being around is enough to help a viewer like me feel less lonely in the world.

It's nice to hear someone actually put into words how I feel about sharing online. I keep thinking I don't have anything interesting or unique to give, and can't help worrying that I'll say something and receive backlash for it. There's so much I'd love to talk about and share but never make a video and don't post about the things I'd like to. Maybe it's self-preservation, maybe it's anxiety. Dear Carrie, I appreciate your sit-down-type videos so much. You are a joy to watch because of who you are. Personally I always enjoy someone sharing what they're excited about or what they want to talk about. I don't care if you have "nothing to add", I still love to hear your thoughts. You being unapologetically yourself has been and is inspiring. Besides, it would kind of be nice to have that kind of content we had 10 years ago, where videos didn't have to be either 1 minute or an hour or very deep or meaningful or a vlog but just... a casual chat. Anyway, I hope you'll find a way to balance the (very logical) anxieties with your desire to film and share. ❤

Girl....I feel you on this! I have left Twitter over a month ago and haven't looked back since and I do not miss it one bit! It was getting so exhausting and it made me so anxious. I can only imagine what comment sections on KZbin videos can be like sometimes.... I haven't been on KZbin for a while either. There are multiple reasons for that, but one of them surely was anxiety and feeling overwhelmed by so many people making videos with their opinions on the same subject and they then came with tons of comments full of hate and opinions in the comment sections so I just.... ignored it I guess? And I'm not even a content creator! So again, I can only imagine how it must be for you as a creator! I have a ton of catching up to do on vlogs here on KZbin, so I'm slowly trying to do that now... But I loved seeing this video, I love listening to you and I love watching your videos and other content you put out in the digital world for us :-) Thank you for always kinda being there for me somehow... I feel like you are one of few who can put me back at ease, you know? Also, I am really hoping for a new book of yours soonish.... Are you writing at the moment? Or taking a small writing break because of your theatre work etc.? Just curious, not judging of course! Take care, dear Carrie. And again: Thank you! Just because. :-) x

Excellent video! Can absolutely understand the thought behind not wanting to add to an oversaturation of opinions, especially when you don’t believe you bring anything new to the table. Where I think you can find joy and comfort in reclaiming that want to share, is the fact that your opinion will come from a perspective that is COMPLETELY UNIQUE FROM THE MAJORITY OF YOUR AUDIENCE. I know as someone who works in regional fringe theatre, I certainly am fascinated by hearing about sides of theatre discourse and such from someone who works so heavily in the west end and much more commercial theatre spaces! The different backgrounds between you and your community might cause divisiveness, but if it’s clear that it’s coming from your place and your background, I think your voice is super valuable and BLOODY FASCINATING! And if you wanted, you could always collaborate with people who have different backgrounds to you, and so may look at things from a different angle. They’ll bring something new that you hadn’t considered and vice versa! I don’t comment often, and ironically, I clearly have an opinion about your thoughts on the oversaturation of opinions 😂 but you’ve started a really excellent conversation here, and I hope anything I’ve said has been helpful. ❤

There’s a difference between being vulnerable and ignoring your boundaries. You are not allowed or expected to ignore your boundaries, but you are allowed to be vulnerable. For example, I had to mute someone I worked with online because they were just “sharing their opinions” but it was causing me anxiety. Last time I spoke to them in person, they said they were making money online as a “TikTok ranting account”. I set that boundary of “I will not let negative energy enter my safe space” and because that’s all they do, I cut it off. Also, instead of viewing it as “sharing your opinion”, it should be seen as “joining/engaging in a conversation”. But in order to do that, you need to cultivate a safe space and community (which I believe you have) that will agree to engage in conversation and agree to a shared set of agreements. We want to have conversations with you.

Thats the beutifull thing about this industry. Nothing is ever going to be simple but there are plenty of peeps willing to engage in a conversation. Art is always subjective. The industry is always complex and constantly changing. But its starting these conversations that makes me love the peoole in it. I also love the way your brain works.

I fully understand where you are coming from. Its hard because theres a power in numbers. The more people talking about a topic, the better. It might not be new for the internet, but it could be new for someone in your audience. But the internet is so lacking in nuance and people can be genuinely cruel when they disagree.

I would looove to see some book recommendations- yeah, there’s a lot of people doing these kinds of videos but I‘d love to know about YOUR favourite books because I value YOUR opinion and the vibes in YOUR videos are just uniquely bookish and cozy 🧡 we are watching you for you!

Your videos pop up on my page and I think to myself, today is going to be a good one because watching carrie’s videos ALWAYS brighten up my day and I’m sure there are many others who would agree with me. Don’t let those floods of opinions control what you would like to share. Keep enjoying your personal life. Your voice (for me at least) is usually the only one I want to hear on social media. Can not wait to come and watch you in Milton Keynes for my birthday in October. ♥️♥️♥️ PS hello Edgar! 🐱

Aww, this video reminded me of old school KZbin. Just another person, talking straight to camera and sharing their thoughts in a really simple & human way. Missed this and missed seeing you on KZbin, Carrie! ❤

The reason I watch you is for you-You are the channel. There is no other. I love your book insights, your life events, and you are just interesting. I watch other channels because of the persons' uniqueness-Ie: Scott Paige, Gary C. and many others. They are unique as you are- as we all are. You do you! If you don't want to do these one on ones-don't. However, I do love me the tour, Disney, and theatre vlogs as well. Wishing you all the best, Sincerely, Dean

Carrie, to a degree you don’t have to worry about whether we will like videos on new topics that interest you, as people tend to be drawn to individuals who have similar interests, or make videos about similar interests to themselves. For example, I love musical theatre, books & reading, Disney & Marvel, Halloween and behind the scenes type videos (especially in theatre). Most of us share interests with you. And we are interested in your voice and what you have to say. There will be many many other KZbin channels that make musical theatre content, so I could go elsewhere to watch that type of content, but I enjoy hearing what you have to say. And as we enjoy your voice and thoughts on areas we already have an interest in, if you bring up a topic that is new to us, chances are we will listen because we already like listening to you as a person, not just the content. So make whatever you want because chances are, we will either also be really interested in that area, or we will be willing to learn about something new from someone whose voice we already like to hear from

Don't underestimate the fact that people like to listen to what you have to say just because its you and people like your video format/personality/opinions! Even if someone has said it before, it doesn't necessarily matter. Not everyone has watched everything on the internet and even if they have already seen a similar point of view, it's not exactly yours. I can't imagine how overwhelming it must be to receive comments, tweets etc and that anxiety is of course completely valid - but your opinion is still valid and interesting to people who like you and your content - even if someones said it before and even if it isn't worded completely eloquently!

On the topic of whether or not to sing along in a theatre, why not both? It would be so much fun to sing along to Mamma Mia or Grease, it'd be like adult pantomime theatre. There's plenty of musicals/songs that would sound great with audience participation.

I may be in the minority of people who aren't very aware of what's going on elsewhere online (especially twitter and tiktok) but sometimes you can add your voice to a big conversation and yours is the first/only time someone hears about it! At least I didn't hear any about whether audiences should be able to sing along in the theatre. So those conversations aren't universally oversaturated with opinions, just in certain circles/platforms. In other words, I think the people subscribed to your KZbin are people who want to hear your thoughts on things, even if lots of other people have already said the same thing. You're the one we're interested in listening to!

The problem with this being your job is that everyone commenting (positive or negative) is like if us regular Joe’s got feedback from every single person in our office (CEO to receptionist) on everything we submit

On the idea of not making videos because you feel like you’re not sharing new ideas, it might be worth framing it like this: a lot of people love the trope ‘enemies to lovers’. And they’ll read a thousand different forms of the ‘same’ idea, even though they’ve read it before.
@rylanwow Жыл бұрын
I think it is true that on the internet that most of everything has already been said, but I think the way youtube is now its not that people are necessarily trying to say something new, they're saying something that is new to their audience. Like with you, for example, I have no knowledge about the theater scene or keep up with it in any other place other than this channel. So, if you did make a video on something within the theater world (or something else), it's not that you would be saying something that no one has said before, but I think it would be an avenue for those who don't know about it to learn. I personally think what you do is super interesting and am always excited to hear more about it from your perspective. Anyways, I have no idea if that made sense, but that's my view on it lol.

A very interesting video about a topic that is not often talked about. You should never have to be afraid to say what is on your mind no matter if other people think it is controversial or awkward. As always, keep being you and ignore and block the haters!

Even if other people make their opinions (that you share) known, I for one, would be most interested in hearing your take. The only opinions I truly listen to are from people I trust. You present everything you do with thoughtfulness, compassion, and intelligence, so your opinion is one I would like to hear. 💕
