I had almost identical symptoms to him and spent most of my adolescent years getting only a few hours of non-rem rest per night. I finally got approved to take anti-psychotics 4 years ago and felt actual sleep for the first time in my life, and it's very likely he needed heavy dosage anti-psychotics in combination with other medications. The damage not sleeping does to your body is severe, and I developed a variety of nerve issues and organ issues my specialists have struggled to explain or deal with beyond symptom management. If this man had gotten similar treatments he may likely have made a partial recovery and it's incredibly sad he never had the chance to find the help I had.

I'm glad his story is getting out there. Edit: I don't think it was mentioned in the video, one thing that could've been a contributing factor is that the boss that gave him the expired antibiotics was for a job at a chemical (possibly pharmaceutical) plant. There were many Indonesian immigrants working there in unsafe conditions without respirators or proper PPE. He told me how the fumes gave him headaches while working. RIP Chay

They don't even list a bunch of the known adverse effects on the included info sheet, not that sick people are going to read all that, especially if they can't even see straight I've had a bunch of bad reactions so I know more of them than a lot of people, and in my social group I've had to like force people to call the doctor because they don't believe the symptoms they're having are KNOWN COMMON SIDE EFFECTS. The doc and pharmacist didn't tell them anything so they think they have a bug or something. My sister puked for 3 days withdrawing from cymbalta and when i found out that's why she was so sick i bout lost my mind. She thought she had a stomach bug. I've seen similar things happen so many times it's infuriating
@tropezando10 ай бұрын
Cipro is broad spectrum anyway, like firing a rocket launcher at an ant. It's better to have a urine culture done so they can prescribe an antibiotic that the bacteria is sensitive to. I get a lot of UTIs because I take immunosuppressants, and Cipro has caused permanent damage to the connective tissue in my hands, so I put it on my allergy list. Yeah, any SSRI/SNRI med needs to be tapered off or else there will be withdrawal symptoms. That is on the info sheet and you should encourage your friends and family to read those. They can also call their pharmacy if they have questions. There have been many instances where my doctors have missed obvious contraindications, but I'd read the drug info and called the pharmacist, and they took a look and advised me not to take the drug. It sucks to have to essentially do their work for them, but doctors aren't always looking for interactions or patient quirks.

I have this too. Growing up I would fake being sick to stay home from school so I could sleep. In class I was always falling asleep. My mom has narcolepsy and so I got a sleep study done and they said unofficially i'm narcoleptic but on paper it's IH because I couldn't fall asleep during the nap portions the next day (it was the conditions, I was exhausted and felt derealized from my surroundings from sleep delirium but I have to have a fan running full blast and it was just dead silent so I would just liee there in a half awake/half asleep state). I hallucinate spiders and bugs crawling over my bed both when i'm waking and falling asleep as symptom. They're allowing IH to take a form of xyrem called xywav now so you should ask about it. I couldn't take the modafinil they prescribed because it clashes with my anxiety disorder and causes me to dissociate. Really feels like it's caused significant cognitive decline since i went so long without treatment or deep, restorative sleep. Luckily they're now doing home sleep studies so i may get re-evaluated so i can be properly diagnosed and put on xyrem. my heart goes out to you

i have a similar sleep disorder, and something that helped me a TON was taking a medication called "Jornay PM" and i think its definitely worth looking into if thats an option for you and something that you might be willing to give a shot! its meant to be used to treat ADHD (i have ADHD so that wasnt a problem for me,) but when i had been discussing with my doctor my sleep disorder he recommended that i try it out regardless and it has made a major difference for me, it really saved and changed my life for the better. it didnt fix everything of course, but it helps significantly. i wish the best for you and everyone else in this comment thread

Do you happen to have non-24 or another circadian rhythm abnormality? I was initially diagnosed with IH but after I was able to follow my own sleep-wake cycle during covid and working from home, I was re-diagnosed with non-24. My body basically thinks the day is about 28 hours long. (Every night I fall asleep about 4 hours later than the night before.) No actual solution to this other than to not have to keep to a 24 hour schedule, which society doesn't generally allow. Non-24 is incredibly understudied, especially in people who aren't blind. I kinda feel like a lot of IH sufferers might be non-24 or similar and not know it because they aren't given a chance to sleep on their own schedule.

I haven't been diagnosed with anything but I've been thinking about talking to my doctor about it at my next appt. I don't know why else I would be sleeping 12+hrs, napping 5 hours later, and then going to bed for the night in another 5 hours. Everything comes back normal. But I just don't think it is to be as tired as I am, all the gddam time. Did they do a sleep study for you to be diagnosed?

I took Ciprofloxacin in 2020. Developed painful insomnia that feels like a terrifying jolt that shocks you awake as soon as you start losing consciousness. I got akathisia, agitation, neuropathy, horrible anxiety, brain fog, depression... The list goes on. I am nearing 4 years now and I'm still not fully better. And if I ever have to take any other antibiotics that used to be fine for me, I get thrown back into hell for 4-8 months. Haven't worked in all that time. I live with my grandparents at age 34. My girlfriend left me. My life is more or less over. Stay away from fluoroquinolones! You may be fine taking them a couple of times, but the damage accumulates. Eventually you won't be ok.

Absolutely heartbreaking. I'm Laotian and the first thing I thought of was the outbreak of SUNDS (Sudden Unexpected Death Syndrome) in Hmong-Laotian Americans in the 1980s. This is linked to Brugada syndrome, a rare condition which mostly affects Southeast Asian men, and causes heart palpitations and seizures when sleeping. It can also be triggered by taking certain drugs, and has a strong correlation with schizophrenia. I think there could be a link here, with the heart issues and seizures causing (or worsening) his insomnia which later caused his other symptoms. There's also a trauma element to this disease, and the trauma of losing his mother could have triggered the condition as well. Ricard's case absolutely should be studied more and his life should be honored. Thank you for making this video.

I heard of a lady from South Korea who SWORE she never slept more than 4 minutes for YEARS. She was absolutely convinced. She reached out to a TV show that documents strange situations and after speaking to her, they set up a secret camera and found out she was actually sleeping for 4-5 hours. She had no recollection and still felt as though she had NEVER slept. Even after seeing the video proof, she refused to believe that she was asleep in the video. After a long talk, the crew finally got her to see a doctor and it was determined her symptoms were psychosomatic. The stress of not sleeping was actually stopping her from getting REM sleep, which is why she always felt horrible. Obviously, I don’t know if this is the case with Ricard, but considering how long he survived, he must have been sleeping at least SLIGHTLY more than he imagined. This still doesn’t really explain why he died and had other severe symptoms that were most certainly not in his head. I think it’s possible that his inability to walk, and his obvious mental decline could certainly be due to a fear of sleep. It’s possible that once he started to feel that he wasn’t sleeping, his mind saw that as reality and physically wouldn’t let him sleep. This case is so tragic and it breaks my heart. Ricard was obviously a very loving, kindhearted man who simply wanted the best for his son. I really wish doctors would try to study his videos to try and find SOME answers if at all possible. Rest in Peace, Ricard ❤ You’re finally resting well. Your son will grow up as kind and loving as you…I’m sure of it. ❤

Though now, I remember every detail of every dream I have at night. It's like my brain finally adapted to have REM sleep while still partially awake. I'm still disoriented now and again because I live so many lives in my dreams that I have difficulty reminding myself none of it was real and trying to forget about it. As a former drug addict, I suffered from restless legs induced insomnia. I can definitively say it is the most horrifying thing to suffer through. Easily the worst symptom and condition I’ve ever dealt with. I would finally doze off after taking a hot bath and my brain would jolt back awake. It felt like “I’m finally asleep!” And bam I would be wide awake heart racing and wanting to die. I had hallucinations both audio and visual.. having full conversations with people who weren’t there and fading in and out of consciousness. I cannot explain how bad this condition is and I feel so bad for him.

Yea, that's what I see as well. To me, he simply had RLS, which can become permanent for a small amount of opiod/benzo abusers. I wonder if him simply not telling the doctors he went to the truth about his benzo drug abuse and that led to his horrible death.
@terryrichmond472310 ай бұрын
It’s stuff that helps, kratom eases it somewhat depending on how much you take and magnesium. These doctors don’t want to help us, we’re on our own brother. Hope all is well 🙏🏾
@omega-death10 ай бұрын
@terryrichmond4723 ain't that the truth. It's like the doctors had no problem giving us sctipt after script, but it wasn't until the DEA pill mill crack down in the early to mid 20-teens that doctors had to worry about the addiction spree they help get going could hurt them that all of a sudden "I don't give out pain meds or help with getting off them, so find someone else to help ya." I'm not saying us addicts are innocent. I am saying that the doctors who made crazy amounts of money off of us back then should be a little more willing to help us get off them. I get it, though. It's all relative, so to speak. I will say I'm very glad I was able to get clean, but that was because I found someone who loved me for me when I was getting clean. She made it worth doing for myself and her. Not all of us get that, though. So, yea. At the end of it, getting clean is possible because addicts have so much more information available to them, like what you spoke of, so that's a good thing. As long as people like you are willing to give good advice, then more people will get clean. ✌️

I don't have insomnia at all, i need to sleep like constantly. But i can't. So I'm sleep deprived anyway. I never thought of it that way before. I get similar results, seeing things in particular. I also startle really bad, and have horrible physical sensations. Those are probably the worst part. If someone slams a car door it feels like a bomb went off, I feel like I'm in grave physical danger. Like physically, heart racing and all that, not mentally. And I feel like my whole body has restless leg syndrome lol. If i go to sleep long enough it totally goes away.

Congrats … and congrats for one of the first intelligent comments … seeing the clip I get concerned about the Benzos shown … no go for sleep problems … especially if misused can make it worse … they destroy a healthy sleep architecture … a fine balance of sleep phases throughout the night … they can cause what we see … but also … opiates … they can intensify jolts … they are absolutely natural … most people know them from falling asleep. Withdrawals then cause jolts, insomnia and a horrible restlessness … but alcohol can lead to it as well. The video provides zero useful info. Impossible to judge … often its the patient’s lifestyle thats the culprit.

Im never going to get back to normal but I am close to it.. some others aren't so lucky. Thank you for sharing this story. Sounds like he got floxxed for sure. These antibiotics destroy your mitochondria. I had a horrible reaction to one after prescribed Avelox for a sinus infection. My throat closed up and I felt like my skin was on fire. I called my dr and she dismissed it. I then looked it up in internet and saw it had an FDA black box warning. This class of antibiotics should never be prescribed unless someone is exposed to anthrax.
@heyitsjaceypenne9 ай бұрын
@christinecheeseman hi! im not really sure. I'm in a group with people who had bad reactions but there's so many of us that it makes me think its more than just an allergy. Long term effects too. I now have panic attacks, something I've never had before, issues with my heart rate, blood pressure and stomach issues something else that happened almost immediately afterwards. The antibiotics were also used during the gulf War ( I started researching) and sooo many people were also affected by it and continue to be. I don't think this an allergy, I think these drugs are just unnecessarily strong and dangerous (unless it's used as a last resort drug)
@heyitsjaceypenne9 ай бұрын
@christinecheeseman they usually give it to you when you have an infection. They misdiagnosed me and thought I had kidney stones but I didn't. That and the chemical they use when giving MRIs Gadolinium causes similar effects. Not sure if u know who chuck Norris is but he was an actor who's wife got "poisoned" by that chemical. Her effects/problems are similar to cipro antibiotics. If you ever get prescribed this for something, please, unless it's absolutely needed as the last resort and there's no other safer options, I would think twice about it.

I knew as soon as you started describing the symptoms that the antibiotic was ciprofloxicin. I was (wrongfully) prescribed this from my doctor last year with the warning that it might 'burst my achilles tendon' or something which just had me questioning it entirely. I ultimately decided to get a second opinion and NOT take it, so seeing that section in the middle where people have had permanent, debilitating physical and neurological issues as a result of taking it was legitimately terrifying. Why the fuck is it still being widely prescribed if it's such a nuclear bomb of a treatment?

There are some types of bacteria where fluoroquinolone antibiotics like ciprofloxacin are truly the best option. However, fluoroquinolones are usually not used unless other antibiotics are ineffective. They're definitely not a first line treatment for UTIs and kidney infections anymore. And while no prescription medication should be used without a prescription, ciprofloxacin and the like are some of the absolute worst medications to take without a doctor's supervision.
