You may have noticed in Pepe’s videos that he is extremely territorial, and more so because he has grown accustomed to having his room all to himself for over 10 years now. At this late stage in his life, I don’t want him getting involved in territorial disputes with another finch. I just want him to continue living his very happy, stress free life! Thanks for watching and showing concern for Pepe’s happiness! :)

Thank you for sharing. What a wonderful bird and video! I have over 100 zebra finches. I started with 6 one year ago. I loved them so much that I built an indoor (18x10x7ft ) aviary in the basement and outdoor (12x5) aviary for them. Very morning, I spent an hour with them. They got fresh water, fresh seeds, fresh veggies and spray millets. I would love to bring them upstairs to the house. But I have two cats and I don’t want to run any risks...

I am so happy he is adapting well! Everything seems to be new and interesting for him, while other zebra finches get all stressed out by a move. I remember when we got 2 new zebbies (both male) from a rescue center 11 years ago; they were soooo nervous as soon as someone entered the room. Luckily they got used to us and lived long and fulfilling lives. You seem like a wonderful bird parent, and I'm sure Pepe gets all the attention and care he needs and more, thanks to you. I really enjoy all your videos of Pepe :)

You figured correctly that Pepe gets a lot of attention from me, so much so that he has adopted me as his surrogate bird friend. I’ve had Pepe for 12 years, which is way up there in age for a zebra finch! Since he has had his room all to himself for such a long time, he is set in his ways and extremely territorial as depicted in his videos, which is why I have concerns with him getting in territorial disputes if I were to introduce another finch, especially at this late stage in his life. Being a social bird, Pepe adopted me as his surrogate bird friend because I do spend lots of time in his room since my main computer is in there, and I also do my guitar practice in there. He interacts with me and often preens or take naps on me, but when he is in his territorial mood he will not hesitate to peck me if I touch any of his stuff which is pretty much every thing in his room, including my stuff - Lol. Thanks for watching and showing concern for Pepe’s well-being! :)

@fradsou5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and also for sharing your extensive experience with finches, and also for your concern that Pepe might be a lonely bird. Fortunately, Pepe hasn’t exhibited any signs that are typical of lonely birds such as plucking their feathers, showing a complete lack of interest in preening, eating or building numerous nests or just being plain inactive. Instead, over the last 10 years, Pepe has shown signs of being an extremely happy bird on a daily basis by merrily chirping his day away while building numerous nests, eating his millet seed, grit and greens, taking at least 2 baths a day and sunbathing in the direct sunlight several times a day; and finally of course, not hesitating to peck me whenever I touch or attempt to touch his stuff and my stuff too! As you correctly noted, I do spend an enormous amount of time in his room since my main computer is in it, and I also do all my guitar practicing in there. I think Pepe has adopted me as his surrogate bird friend, because he interacts with me on a daily basis by preening on me and also taking naps on me. I have made quite a few videos documenting his interaction with me. Pepe is extremely territorial, and has grown accustomed to having his room all to himself 24/7 for 10 years, and so I have no intention of getting him a partner. I just want him to continue enjoying his happy little life, and I do not want to risk him getting involved in any territorial disputes with another finch. Thanks for caring about Pepe’s well-being! :))

Pepe is so cute. Ever thought about getting him a buddy? I've had many finches in the past. So this was great to see the human with the finch but they are flocking birds so 2 birds are good🤓🐦🐦

I became Pepe’s caretaker 11 years ago when he was found as a wild fledgling, and ever since then he has been living a very happy, busy and carefree life. He interacts with me on a daily basis since I spend lots of time in his room as my main computer is in it, and I also do a lot of reading and guitar practicing in there. Even though he has adopted me as his surrogate bird friend, he does let me know on a regular basis that he is of higher rank than me by bossing me around by pecking me if I attempt to touch his stuff and my stuff too! Introducing another finch at this late stage in his life could be hazardous considering how extremely territorial he is as depicted in his videos. I just want little Pepe to continue living his super happy, stress free life without any territorial disputes. Thanks for watching and looking out for Pepe’s interest! :)

How is he so tame? Did you feed him as a baby? Hand-feed him the time you got him?
@fradsou Жыл бұрын
I did not get Pepe as a baby and I did not hand feed him because he was fully capable of feeding himself when I first got him after he was found late one evening in a boy’s restroom (by a custodian of a school) as a wild fledgling that had been somehow separated from his flock. Since the custodian couldn’t take care of him for that night because he had cats, I volunteered to become Pepe’s caretaker. I am flattered that you think I tamed Pepe, but the truth of the matter is that all of Pepe's behavior was completely that of his own making. All I did was give him the freedom to do whatever he wanted to do, and whenever, so that his wild instincts would remain intact such as being extremely territorial and build numerous nests at various locations in his room, some of which were hidden from view. I preferred that he slept in his cage at night, but NO NO NO … Pepe would decide for himself in which one of his nests he wanted to sleep in for the night. I did spend a lot of time in his room because my main computer was in it, and I also read and played my guitars in there. So, Pepe got accustomed to my presence in his room, and being a social bird he interacted with me on his own accord by deciding when he felt like bonding with me by landing on me to preen or take a nap or just happily chirp. When he got in his territorial mood, he wouldn’t let me touch his stuff which was pretty much every thing in his room, including my stuff - Lol. I was fortunate to have been his caretaker for 13 years! Thanks for watching! :

Yes, the little bird is enjoying his very happy and stress free life. He loves his independence to do whatever he wants to do in his room; and of course bossing me around whenever he feels like it!

How old is Pepe? Considering I think you have done videos about him for 4 years (5 maybe now) and he had his colors back then ( orange beak etc )
@fradsou5 жыл бұрын
10years. Pepe’s coloring may appear to be different in the videos because over the years I have used a variety of standalone cameras, ipads, imacs, macbooks, and iphones under different lighting conditions. Just on my iphone alone, the coloring and picture quality is vastly different for the front (selfie mode) and the back camera. One thing guaranteed is that all the cameras capture the personality of Pepe Caliente! Thanks for watching! :)

I’ve had Pepe for 10+ years, which is way up there in age for a zebra finch! He is set in his ways and accustomed to having his room all to himself. He is also extremely territorial, which is why I have no plans to disrupt his very happy and stress free life by introducing another finch, especially at this late stage in his life. Thanks for watching and looking out for Pepe’s interest!

C D - To answer your question, I did not have Pepe since he was a baby. He was found late one evening as a fledgeling in a boy’s restroom by the custodian of a school. It appeared that Pepe got separated from his flock. The custodian couldn’t take care of him for that night because he had cats, and so Pepe spent that particular night at my home, and I have enjoyed taking care of him ever since then! Thanks for watching!

Pepe’s behavior is that of his own making! I haven’t done anything special to tame him. It’s just that he has grown accustomed to my presence since I’ve been his caretaker for the last 12 years. Thanks for watching his video! :)

Other than being Pepe’s caretaker, I really haven’t done anything special to train him. It’s just that he has grown accustomed to my presence since I spend lots of time in his room (working on my computer or playing my guitar), which is why he interacts with me; thereby giving the impression that he has been trained by me. @fradsou4 жыл бұрын
I am flattered that you think I tamed Pepe, but the truth of the matter is that his behavior is completely that of his own making! It’s just that I have been his caretaker for 11 years, which is why he is so comfortable with my presence; thereby, giving the impression that I tamed him. Being a social bird, he interacts with me on his own accord by napping or preening on me; however, when he is in his territorial mood, he doesn’t hesitate to peck me if I touch his stuff which is pretty much everything in his room - Lol. Thanks for watching! :)

Not to worry! Pepe’s leg looks worse than it really is. He did injure it several years ago. Fortunately, it healed good enough for him to continue living his very active lifestyle and also to continue exhibiting his territorial behavior by not hesitating to peck me whenever I touch his stuff! Thanks for watching and for your concern for Pepe’s well-being! :))

@fradsou3 жыл бұрын
It's just any regular cotton such as the kind that women use to remove their makeup, and can be bought in a store such as Walgreens. Regarding the tissue paper, I use Kleenex tissue paper and tear it in little strips and leave it for Pepe to use as nesting material.

Sorry for the late reply. I just saw your question when I was replying to another commenter. Pepe has grown accustomed to having his room all to himself for the last 12 years, and so he is set in his ways which is why he is so extremely territorial as documented in some of his previous videos. At this late stage in his life, I have no plans to disrupt his very happy and stress free life by getting him involved in resolving territorial disputes with another finch. Thanks for watching and looking out for Pepe’s well-being!

I’ve had Pepe for almost 12 years now, which is way up there in age for a zebra finch! I adopted him when he was found as a wild fledgling that somehow got separated from his flock. Being a social bird, Pepe has adopted me as his surrogate bird friend because I do spend lots of time in his room since my main computer is in there, and I also practice my guitar in there. Nevertheless, Pepe regularly reminds me that he is of higher rank than me by bossing me around by pecking me if I attempt to touch his stuff and my stuff too! Pepe is set in his ways and accustomed to having his room all to himself. As documented in his videos, he is extremely territorial, which is why I have no plans to disrupt his very happy and stress free life by introducing another finch, especially at this very late stage in his life.
