Well, I guess Pepe is as smart as he can possibly be for a zebra finch even though it appears that he is trying to incubate buttons! I guess Pepe feels brave because I always back off from any of his territorial behavior towards me. Sorry to hear that your finches are afraid of taking a bath, but I am guessing they must be taking a bath when no one is looking :)

I love Pepe too, and I love the fact that his name is Pepe Caliente! I got to ask, is he the only bird or is there a mate somewhere? And how do you keep your place so clean from poop, since finches can be very messy birds?

Glad to know that you also love Pepe Caliente :) I too love his name as it fits his feisty personality to a tee! You are right that finches can be very messy, but since Pepe is the only bird in the room, cleaning just his mess is manageable. The one area where he does not like me to clean up after him is when he is relocating one of his nests - which can be a very messy project because after he breaks down a nest into tiny bits before moving it to a new location, a lot of it falls all over the place. He is extremely possessive of all his nesting material, and so he eventually relocates every teeny-weeny bit of nesting material just like a vacuum cleaner, and if for instance I dare attempt to pick up any of his fallen twigs or cotton off the carpet, he comes out of nowhere and pecks me really hard! By the way, I enjoyed seeing your finches on your channel, and the behavior of your male finch taking a bath is so similar to that of Pepe, plus he sounds just like Pepe!

Red The Gamer LOL! Actually, this is not my TV - it is Pepe's TV :)) This TV hasn't been turned on in ages, and it is not even plugged into an electrical socket! It is only there because Pepe has taken a fancy to it, and loves hanging around it, and will often sleep for the night near it or behind it on the looped cord. This behavior of his is documented in his video " A Zebra Finch's favorite sleeping spots" that's on my channel. My favorite part is 30 seconds into this video where he cozies up for the night behind the TV on the looped electrical TV cord!

Red The Gamer Hi - Here is an update on Pepe's TV. I finally recycled it about 7 weeks ago when my neighborhood had a TV recycling drive. Pepe wasn't happy at all with the TV being gone, even though I replaced it with a new second cage just for him. So, for the last several weeks, he has refused to sleep in the new cage or even be near it, and instead he started sleeping on the computer desk pretty much every night since the weather recently turned warmer. The good news is that he has just started to take an interest in this new cage, and has actually made a nest near it. He did go inside his new cage a few times to check it out; however, he has not yet slept in it. Anyway, one of these days I am planning on making a video showing his interesting behavior around this new second cage of his.

I love Pepe ! He so funny and a beautiful zebra finch.. I have about seven in my room haha 5 are the babies of my own birds CooCooRooCooCooCoo and Melodia haha and I absolutely adore CooCoo he was my first a along with his previous mate who died Linda but CooCoo inspires me as well to create art work I wish I could show you on here but I just wanted to share the fact that our bids can inspire us to do so much haha say hi to Pepe from me (:

Right after I passed your message to Pepe that you love him and that you think he is so funny and beautiful, he started strutting around like a proud peacock! Oh yeah, he said to say "Hi" to you too! HaHa :)) Wow! 7 zebra finches in your room must be quite a handful! I fully understand you absolutely adoring CooCoo because I feel exactly the same way about little Pepe. Based on your video uploads, I am guessing that CooCoo inspires your singing and dancing, and so this is what I have to say: "OLE, and hope to see some more uploads!!!"
