The "beak clicking" is a sign that a zebra finch is comfortable and feels safe :) my zebra finches do it all the time, especially nearby their nest.
@fradsou8 жыл бұрын
+JUMALATION1 Thanks for the "beak clicking" info that explains why Pepe also often clicks his beak when he's in his nest with his eyes shut, and also sometimes when I talk to him in a soft low voice!

Thanks for your wonderful feedback, and also for your interest in wanting to see more videos of Pepe! Glad to know you have zebra finches. They are so much fun to have since they are such busy little birds, and very interesting to watch as they go about their daily business. They do tend to be very skittish in the beginning when you first get them, but they do eventually warm-up towards you as they get more and more familiar with you. Wish you all the best with your zebra finches!
@Dougy8 жыл бұрын
I think one of our finches might lay an egg any ideas how to take care of them the best? The cage isn't pretty big nor small but and we have two nestz one that covers almost everything but one hole and one that it is half a circle. but they only use the half circle one. We are new to birds but we know a little bit about them but not about the babies
@fradsou8 жыл бұрын
Sorry - My personal experience with finches is limited to just being a caretaker for Pepe Caliente, and therefore I lack the expertise to properly advise you on questions in regard to egg laying and taking care of babies. If your finch question is related to Zebra Finches, then I would recommend checking out a book by Hans J. Martin - Zebra Finches (Barron's Complete Pet Owner's Manuals) that can be purchased at the amazon.com website. Wish you all the best with your finch family :-)

Very nice video. I have a white zebra finch, and a gouldian finch that I release in my room. Are you going to get a mate for your bird?
@fradsou8 жыл бұрын
+Stingray Ocean Hi - Thanks for your nice comment! :-) Your finches are lucky that you release them in your room so that they can fly about and really stretch their wings! To answer your question, I have no plans to get Pepe a mate because he is now up there in age (8+ years) for a zebra finch, and also he has grown accustomed to having the room all to himself!
@kingsatan26248 жыл бұрын
Cool..I didn't know they live that long. You inspired me to let them fly around. Thank you so much :)

+Stingray Ocean You're welcome! Regarding how long zebra finches could possibly live, you can check out the utube video "Tom, The Australian Zebra Finch" of a zebra finch that lived from 2001-2014, and another utube video "Gussy's Friends" of a zebra finch that lived for 15 years!!

How they are so friendly with u share trick??
@fradsou4 жыл бұрын
Pepe is friendly with me because I’ve been his caretaker for 12 years. I have done nothing special to alter his behavior which is entirely that of his own making. Being a social bird, he likes to interact with me by staying very close to me or on me; but even so, it is only on his own terms and only when he feels like it. When he is in his territorial mood, he will peck me if I touch his stuff or he will warn me if I get too close to his stuff, which is pretty much everything in his room - lol. Thanks for watching his video! :)

How way make the bird tame?
@fradsou3 жыл бұрын
I actually did nothing special to tame Pepe! His behavior is really that of his own making! It’s just that I’ve been his caretaker for a long time (12 years), and so he has grown accustomed to my presence, especially since I spend lots of time in his room because my main computer is in it, and I also read books and do my guitar practicing in there. He interacts with me on his own accord, and so when he feels like bonding with me, he will come on me to preen or take a nap or just chirp away. When he is in his territorial mood, he won’t let me touch his stuff, which is pretty much every thing in his room, including my stuff - Lol. Thanks for watching! :)

When I take out a male finch from the cage, he usually plays dead, hehe.
@fradsou8 жыл бұрын
+xTrapzNTOx Yeah, finches tend to play dead whenever they are held. Whenever I have to hold Pepe in my hand to untangle nesting material caught on his feet, he also tends to play dead by laying completely motionless!

I am really sad😢my female finch flew and now the male is alone. I just wanted to ask if he can live alone.😞
@fradsou6 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that your female finch flew away:( Your male finch can live alone, provided you are able to give him lots of attention so that he won’t get lonely; otherwise it would be best to get him a companion. From your reply, it sounds like you really love finches, so spending lots of time with your male finch shouldn’t be an issue! :)

What happened to Pepe's left foot? It looks like he's limping on it :( Hope he's ok!
@fradsou8 жыл бұрын
You correctly noticed that in the video Pepe has a problem with his left foot. In this particular video, Pepe had just dislocated a joint in his left foot that has since healed significantly; however, he sometimes does have difficulty scratching himself with his left foot, but that hasn’t stopped him from being his usual self in actively building new nests and being extremely territorial. Thanks for watching Pepe’s videos, and for your genuine concern in his well being! :-))

Im thinking about getting a zebra finch or a budgie, are finches sociable or really hard to tame when already older ?
@tr3nta3458 жыл бұрын
And do i need big groups or a couple or can i just keep one if im going to spend time with it everyday ?
@fradsou8 жыл бұрын
Finches are sociable, and so the more time you spend with them, the more comfortable they will get with you regardless of their age.
@fradsou8 жыл бұрын
You can keep just one bird if you are able to spend time with them everyday. Birds being sociable do need company, preferably another bird; but a human can also be a good substitute like in my case with Pepe Caliente.
@idontknow9568 жыл бұрын
i have a zebra finch too, nut she is still scared and we can't get her out of the cage :(
@fradsou8 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear that you also have a zebra finch because they are such fun pets! Pepe used to also be afraid to come out of his cage. He'd come to the entrance of his cage door and then go back inside. Eventually he did get the courage to come out and stay out for longer and longer periods of time. Now he mostly goes in just to eat, drink water and to sleep at night. The interesting thing is that when I have guests over who want to see him, he will often go inside his cage because that's where he feels the most safe. I think that your finch will also eventually venture out of the comfort zone of its cage. By the way, thanks for watching Pepe Caliente's videos!

@fradsou8 жыл бұрын
I have been Pepe's caretaker since January 14th, 2008 when he was about 2 months old I think because even though he had the full coloring of a male zebra finch, his zebra striped tail feathers had not yet been developed. So to answer your question, Pepe is now about 8 years and 8 months old.

@fradsou4 жыл бұрын
Pepe has the following typical characteristics of a male zebra finch; bright orange cheeks, white speckled brown feathers and a black band across his breast. So, in answer to your question: Pepe is a male zebra finch. In general, male birds do build nests primarily for their comfort and safety, and in the wild to also attract females. In Pepe’s case, his favorite pastime is building numerous nests in his room. Thanks for watching! :)
