That sure does sound a lot smoother! Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate that. Hopefully I will have some new engine and gearbox videos up soon.

You learn something new every day. Lucky you have someone who knows their stuff and repaired the rockers for you.

Ha! Congrats on fixing the noise 😀. It's such a good feeling to actually fix something instead of damaging it😂.

It's such a funny little car, it looks like halfway between a Mini and a Metro, just add the characteristic 1st gear whine and you'd be mistaken for thinking that it was a BL car... :P

It drives better though! ;)

This is exactly the problem I'm having since the start of the year. My rocker arms are also worn a bit. I think I will make a modified feeler gauge to make it less wide. If my theory is correct I would be able to set the clearance correctly. In my experience it gets a little less noisy when the engine is at operating temperature. If my custom feeler gauge does not work I will probably get mine fixed like yours.

The risk of setting the valves to tight got me frigthen... I really dont want to have to remove the head again anytime soon! New rocker arms are also available... but they cost around 200 euroes...

@@SeasideGarage I have seen your head bolt struggles, I get why you don't take any risks

If you know the pitch of the thread on the rockers you can remove all play then turn the adjuster accordingly. If you have a 0.75 mm thread pitch for example it gives you 0.75mm per Revolution of the screw, if your valve clearance is 0.25mm (as an example) then you would remove all play and then turn the adjuster out 1/3 of a revolution to give you 0.25mm clearance. This method takes wear on the rocker head and the rocker bore into account, to set each valve to the heel of the lobe put its sister valve (cyl 1+4 paired cyl 2+3 paired) to its fully open position so if you are adjusting cyl 1 inlet set cyl 4 inlet to be fully open then do each valve in turn this is because the lobes for each parallel pair of pistons are 180° apart. There are rocker adjusting spanners available that have a click type adjustment so that you do not have to go by eye.

Wonder how many times you could actually resurface those? 😉

Many I am sure! :)

The original hardened finish actually gets further work hardened during use. So the low spot is likely harder than the surrounding surface in most cases.
