As a huge fan of Japanese arcade shoot 'em ups from the 90's, I am very excited for this! It looks stunning, especially for being on an Amiga! Amazing.

Happy new year 🥳Great improvements on the engine Daniel! Love the new visual effects like craters in the ground. Very promising since first glance 🙌
@Daytona675x3 күн бұрын
Thanks, mate :-) Stuff like craters (technically "persistent background modifications", actually not totally trivial with this game due to the almost 320 pixels plus horiz softscrolling) are inside since wip video #2 - I just had no ground test-enemies anymore until recently ;)

Happy New Year! You've been working really hard again. Explosion craters on the floor are great, I like it when you can see the action visually. So keep the particles and explosion effects coming! I'm already painting the next tilesets :)

Awesome! I love such shooters. I played Ikaruga on Dreamcast a lot. It's lovely to see the Amiga platform getting such a shooter.

Amazing work! Can I ask how you got the boss to be 31 colors when you're in dual playfield mode, the only way I could think is that you have 4 attached sprites 16 colors each but that wouldn't leave enough sprites for the player ships and bullets would it?
@Daytona675x4 күн бұрын
Thanks :-) 30, not 31 colors, my mistake. That boss simply consists out of 2 BOBs. The upper part (until the eyes begin) has one set of 15 colors, the lower part a different set. Works pretty well with that guy because most metal is concentrated in the lower part. The engine allows for full PF2 palette changes at arbitrary Y positions. This happens automagically for every BOB being drawn. For PF1 each row of tiles can have a separate palette. There are some limitations though, e.g. of course there cant be overlapping enemies with different pals etc.

@@Daytona675x Awesome, that's fascinating how you've achieved all that. I love the technical side of Amiga games and I read that you plan on writing up a big post at the end of development about how everything was done, almost looking forward to that as much as the game :)

Impressive! I don't like bullet hell games, prefer kind of Project X, but this looks amazing. Good luck!

Awesome, what's the name of the game now? As it was Hyperborea before :)
@Daytona675x3 күн бұрын
Actually it doesn't have a name right now. Just like most gfx and sfx are placeholders right now, the name is too. Literally :) Because when I asked an AI picture generator to please create a title-screen, I also asked it to use the word "Placeholder" as the title text, using japanese characters... Well, it didn't really understand me, it seems ;)
