8.1V on ppbus_g3h is low, it means no communication with smc Reball or replace SMC, it should be 8.6V. Before reball/replace smc, check SMC_RESET_L resistor goes often bad, check also SMC_ONOFF_L and make sure PP3V42_G3H is making its way to smc. If you want to go the systematic crazy way, you can check the 11 prerequesite for PM_SLP_S4_L to be delivered (11 signals/power rails), just google that you will find it in the wiki repair. This will give you 100% a clue and you will know what is happening :)

Sorin, first you need to be sure there no corrosion unde smc chip. Most of the pm_slp signals come from there. Also you need to check the rtc ic, as far as i remember i saw you were cleaning that area. Corrosion there will cause the board to not start. Another thing you need to make sure, the smc is up and running (ppbus_g3h) is higher when smc is up and running.
@inwerp
@inwerp Жыл бұрын
Technically it is PCH who sets slp above s5 level. Smc only pulls them during init so they wont float high before pch power controller is initialized.

Before you give up, you should should try using a genuine Apple MagSafe 2 45w power adapter. Without doing this can give you unpredictable results with PM_SLP_S4_L.

go through the startup sequence on the schematics and stop on the missign signal... you said that the power good signal comes on and goes off, is it reaching its destination? if its reaching its destination what is triggered after that? reball smc? check oscilator aeria with osciloscope. how much amps is the cpu consuming on your board and on the customer's board? you have a spare cpu in front of you :pppp, replace it haha or send all the parts back to your board and replace the bad smc check if its a bios issue.

Everything seems to indicate that the voltage (8.1V) of the PPBus_G3H power rail and all its related (associated) circuitry should normally be 8.6V but I still find myself in the beginner's lessons to "decipher" the schematic diagrams about "apple stuff" that I "like" so much (personally me). All the best.
@hirthbenedek
@hirthbenedek Жыл бұрын
The voltage on the main power rail was 8.1 volts. That means, that the smc is not running. Check voltage and short on the smc reset pin with the help of schematics. If there is no other component affecting it, it's probably the smc. You can try reflowing, reballing, maybe a bad connection. If it's still not working, you can try replacing, if it's worth it.

REMEMBER: SMC is not on if PPBUS_G3H is 8.15v instead of 8.55v(SMC needs to communicate with U7100 to tell it over SMBUS line to raise PPBUS_G3H from 8.15v to 8.55v). Magsafe LED is OFF when battery is connected and no charging, but green/orange light and normal boot from charger when battery is disconnected. Resolved by replacing Q7180 transistor.

I have an iphone, didn’t charge well. I fixed a power bank with a Samsung phone, to start lightning charging. Then I connected the iphone with a lightning cable to the supported power bank. After some charges, the normal cable started to fix the battery, supporting 5.1 v, and 4.9 v charging at 1 A. Could be the same with Apple laptops. The best could be to first charge up the battery separately, after it’s done, in most cases charging will start. If the customer is on blacklist, his devices will be stopped with a satellite, even the charging.

Agreed with Justin C, Sorin. Ten ohms per CPU rail is normal, not shorted. But in this Macs, PPBUS_G3H is very important. So, as he said, prepare yourself for an SMC removal and reballing (maybe you are having corrosion there, below the SMC). By the other side, if you need to check if you have any light in the charger, the flat cable must be connected between power board and main board (essential if you need to have green/orange light). And BTW check if you have clock signal in clock IC and its termination resistors. Also try to use (if you are able to) another power board, with an original Apple charger. Let us know.

am I totally wrong when I think, that the cables you use to bypass broken tracks are not insulated (no lacquer coating, whatever). If so, don't you worry that such bare cables could produce silly, random short circuits? I'm sure, you take care about such cases (and you isolate everything afterwards) ..it's just for understanding

And THIS is why we stopped doing Macbooks last year. You can spend a day on one and still not get it fixed. I suspect you need to do an SMC reball here. Not such a bad job but use 0.3 balls. Then, when that fails get a large hammer and a pound for the swear box.
