STONE FALL KNIVES

STONE FALL KNIVES

Күн бұрын

the knives I make can be bought here:
www.etsy.com/s...
I hope that anybody that watches this video walks away with a little bit better understanding of what they are actually spending their money on many times I've met people at gun shows or at knife events that will spend their hard earned and money on a piece of junk that they think is going to perform as a knife when in reality if they ever take it out and try to use it more than likely it's going to break in their hands or it's going to go dull within a minute of a being used.. I expect a lot out of the equipment I use and I think everybody else should expect a lot to.
Knives are tools just like anything else and we need to be able to have these things work for us without a constant fear of them under performing.
Ever since I was a young boy I've carried a pocket knife everywhere I went and every knife I've ever owned before I started getting more serious about knives had to be resharping frequently and that didn't bother me so much when I was a young man but realizing what is available out there and the performance of some more incredible metals I don't carry cheaply made.
This video was not intended to bash the desires of each individual person but more to serve as how I personally rank and decide what is worth my money and what I want out of a knife.. A lot of people out there are satisfied with buying things that will just be pretty and sit on a shelf somewhere and never be used. Never be used. I was that way at 1 point in time when I was very young because of ignorance and I thought that all medals pretty much performed the exact same way. But. But with time and experience and especially After making a couple hundred knives I have learned the difference between cheap low performing metals and higher quality excellent steel. I've learned the value of heat Is treatment and how a good heat treatment can determine entirely the quality of a knife.
There are many options out there and if you're looking for a knife to buy I hope that you'll take a look at mine and take a look at some of my other videos where I show how my knives performed versus some of the best on the market right now.
Always remember to practice caution when handling any object that is sharp including a knife. Memory to take care of it sharpen it frequently keep the edge clean so it remains sharp longer. And remember a quality knife trump's quantity of knives. You could carry 10 knives that are cheap Or you could carry one knife that is high quality. Better to have 1 knife that's worth a 100 knives than 100 knives that are worth nothing.
Many of us have passions for knives either because we grew up using them and our families use them frequently or maybe we saw something cool in a movie that we wanted to have either way a knife is a tool that when used responsibly can truly give you access to to processing the world around you. Whether making a fire preparing a meal is or processing game.

I am a full-time woodcarver, and my primary whittling knife is in A2. Today I spent about ten hours carving cured Black Cherry with it, and it is still shaving sharp. It always blows me away with how nicely it performs.

Many must have latest greatest "super steel" and overspend on it to be happy. A good steel with a great HT by someone who really knows the steel is the way to get a great blade. Seems super steels with a meh HT are common out there...

It it disappointing how many mass-produced super steels get bad heat treatments. I was approached by several heat treatment services, and I turned them all down, I only trust my heat treatment.

@@stonefallknives5518 Same here. Nobody else is going to pull the blade out at the exact time, quench as fast as possible between plates and compressed air, quickly cut the blade out of the foil, immediately dip into a bucket of room temperature water followed by -100F dry ice slurry seconds later. Ain't happening.

There's nothing wrong with A2 steel. I like its stability in heat treating (other steels are way more prone to warp), ability to take a keen edge, and ease in finishing and sharpening. It's on paper toughness isn't spectacular but is good enough, and it has good edge stability at 60-62. I like that patina it develops over time.

I just got some a-2 steel, but have no way to heat treat. Is there anybody out there that will do that kind of thing?

There are a couple of companies out there that do, along with myself. You can heat treat a2 with a very simple homemade set up. Will it be the best a2 heat treatment, no. Will it still make a great knif, yes.

How does A2 compare to 1095? Because i dispise esees 1095 steel. It dulls in the sheath. If it touches hardwood it worthless. Ive been looking at the barkriver gunny in a2.

I think pretty much anything is going to give you better edge retention than 1095. I'll be heat treating my first A2 here soon, but I've made knives in O1 and 52100 with great performance as well. A2 will definitely give you better retention though, as it is used in high speed, high wear applications.

A2 is far superior to 1095. More resistance to rust, seems easier to resharpen, and holds an edge longer. The blade featured here is made by me and you can buy the blades on etsy.

ESEE are over rated. They have a reputation for their great warranty which is why they dont maximize hardness in exchange for toughness . The trade off is edge retention.
