in my early model 4L80E build I was not able to use the Sonnax forward drum hub roller bearing. It was too thick, and took away all my input shaft end play. The Sonnax web site does say machining may be required to use that. I just replaced the stock plastic washer those hubs use with a copper washer that came in my rebuild kit.

Hello,Ryan! Can you give an advice where to find the problem: I can hear mechanical sound(like pleantary sound) in the end of 1st gear until it shifts to 2nd.starts from 1500rpm if moving slowly, more gas - lesser sound. 1.I have changed 2 oil pumps(no any damage was noticed) and filters with seals. 2. 3 times i've changed overdrive planetary(now billet inside) with new roller sprag spring retainer and snap ring 3. Converter(triple disc with lock up) was also checked and balanced - no damage was found 4. Flexplate to TC also checked 5. all bearings, washers,bushings&seals are changed. 6.Diff also checked Where else i can check to find the problem?

Hi did you leave the center seal out for dual feed modification on the Forward drum? Thanks
@BlaserBuilds3 ай бұрын
No, but you can. It's just not part of dual feed. The forward drum seal has a bleed hole and applied the whole drum anyways. Just slows fluid to prevent harsh shift.

Jake sells th400 style intermediate piston return spring plates. We use them in all 4L80e builds, they don't dish outward like the stock 80e ones do. Then we pull 6 springs off the stock retaining plate and put them in outer holes in the 3 separate locations. Looks like a pretty decent build and nothing really got hurt. Also, that chamfer on the rev band seems normal if my memory serves me right
@BlaserBuilds Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the new band that went in was the same way. But not sire where the black gritty stuff was coming from. I guess we'll see how it goes, lol. I'll check out the th400 plates for the next one.
@christophersanders5007 Жыл бұрын
I added that same plate from Jakes in my 4l80e rebuild.
@pedricktownperformance6781 Жыл бұрын
The stock 4l80e intermediate piston retaining plate is known to flex and bow with elevated line pressure. I use a thicker th400 retaining plate with the 4l80e springs to fix that problem.

I have a ea valve body in my 80e a buddy of mine had specd from Lonnie. Has lockup in 1-4 and he’s done a few like that actually. But only time they have been used like that is in a diesel application and I talked with him about it over the phone and he seemed to think that the lower rpm of the diesel is what keeps the pump alive with lockup in every gear. Who knows tho
@ratchetstrapgarage3609 Жыл бұрын
What do you think caused the rubbing/beveling on the reverse band.
@BlaserBuilds Жыл бұрын
Not sure TBH... theres really not anything there to rub it like that.
@funfun8095 Жыл бұрын
Why did you run wave plates? I toss all those in performance builds. I also put the forward hub in, then the clutches. Easier than having to wiggle it in. ;)
@BlaserBuilds Жыл бұрын
Forward, just maintaining a stock clearance stack and the drum is applied all the time in forward gears so I don't feel like there really much to gain by removing it, unless clearancing for another clutch, and it doesnt apply/release under power. I kept the intermediate just to soften the impact on the intermediate sprag on the 1-2, also stock clearance stack. Direct I removed it to clearance the drum for 6 clutches, and it applies under power.

I was doing youtube and working on cars before we met, so it's kinda always been the way. But consistency is big, do a little bit every day, or as much as possible. After work(10 ish hours) I can get in like 2-4 hours a day without really interfering with any family time, or house work throughout the week. This teardown, and editing the video was maybe an hour and a half.
