Can you explain how parking brake is applied when no engines are running? Also, why do we have to check the brake accumulator pressure in green before coming in for parking?
@Captain_SQ3 жыл бұрын
you have the accumulator pressure . If it is in green band in the accumulator, that means it has enough pressure for the parking brake.
@SaurabhKumar-hr7fn3 жыл бұрын
@@Captain_SQ I had green Accu pressure and parking brake was set upon braking (confirmed on the triple indicator). Upon shutting down engine no 1( we were doing one engine taxi), and after parking brake on, the aircraft started to toll back. I immediately pressed on the brakes and the aircraft stopped. I have two questions based on this experience: 1) Why didnt the parking brake hold the aircraft even though the accumulator had sufficient pressure and confirmed on triple indicator? 2) When I pressed the pedals, was it the yellow system that automatically worked because the engines were off and yellow elec pump was also off?
@Captain_SQ3 жыл бұрын
Older aircrafts have green Hydraulics for parking brakes. New ones now uses yellow hydraulics for parking brakes. When you step on the brakes at the rudder pedals, you are activating the green Hydraulics. So if you say that your aircraft roll back after setting the parking brakes, it means that there is an issue with the yellow accumulators. Yellow accumulator pressure can last up to 12 hours. If you are performing single engine taxi, your yellow electric pump would have been switched on.
@SaurabhKumar-hr7fn3 жыл бұрын
@@Captain_SQ yes, we were using yellow elec pump but that is the reason Im confuses because the acc pressure was in green
@Captain_SQ3 жыл бұрын
It is possible for it to happen, the accumulator pressure in green but the aircraft move, perhaps there is a problem with the parking brake selector valve(it is possible that it opens slowly) . So once you set the parking brake, you would have to check the brake pressure(the two needles below the accumulator pressure gauge). Check the left and right brake pressure on the pressure indicator is showing before releasing your feet from the brakes.

Why do we have to check the accumulator pressure in green? I thought the parking brake was supplied by the normal yellow system
@iliasebbouch5181 Жыл бұрын
There is no yellow hydraulic pressure before the engines are started so the accumulator is needed to pressurize the park brake
@katjin-ji918928 күн бұрын
Are you wondering why it's called green? Checking it in 'green band' doesn't mean it's using the Green Hydraulics. It being in green band just tells you that the accumulator pressure has sufficient pressure. When the accumulator pressure is in the green band, it typically indicates that the pressure is within the optimal or safe operating range for the system. The green band on a pressure gauge or indicator shows that the pressure is neither too low nor too high, ensuring that the system is functioning correctly and efficiently.

Hi Capt, What will happen if you retrieve the gear while the aircraft on ground. Will it work without the HYD pressure when the engines are not running. How does the safety pin helps to protect that from happening? Thanks for the video. One last request, please consider the topic hydroplaning for a future video. would like to hear more about it.
@Captain_SQ3 жыл бұрын
Hi Isuru, I do believe that you will not be able to retrieve the gears on the ground. I think there is a safety mechanism for it. Sure I will consider a hydroplaning video.

It is interlock mechanism captain that prevents inadvertently retracting the gears when on the ground..
@shobitshokeen Жыл бұрын
When either of shock absorber or landing gear are compressed and nose wheel is not centered a locking Mechanism doesn’t let it retract .
