Qantas is resting its hopes in aircraft such as the A350-1000 and A321XLR to help reshape its future; however, recent announcements have resulted in problems for its network in the coming years as delays are felt. So, what's the latest on the delivery delays and issues?

Another one-sided analysis. Qantas were warned that if they didn't order the A350-1000 sooner, they would face delays and never acted. It's hard to blame the manufacturer when the customer won't listen.

But you can't expect Qantas, or any airline for that matter, to order brand new aircraft during the pandemic when nobody knew when flights were going to resume. You're right. There's two sides to every story.

Qantas already had the very capable 787-9, and Boeing was willing to build a HGW version, which they would have gotten sooner. The 787-9 is already flying one of the longest flights in the world without any modification. Qantas is taking a risk, albeit a calculated one, shifting from Boeing to Airbus. They're undoubtedly going to incur additional costs, but hopefully they got a large enough discount from Airbus to offset that.
@smeary10

@@sainnt The 787 does not compete head to head with the A350. That's what the 777X does. The 787 competes with the A330 family of aircraft. It was never in the race for Project Sunrise as it doesn't have the capacity let alone the range. I've flown SYD-DFW and PER-LHR on the QF 787 and they're great, but they're not big enough and can't make the numbers work for SYD-LHR or SYD-JFK.
@sainnt

@@smeary10I never said the 787 competed with the A350, and the A330neo was built to compete with the 787, not the other way around. Technically, the 787-10 was built to compete with the A350-900, and the A350-1000 was built to compete with the 777X. The A350 is only being fitted with 238 seats for PS, well below the capacity of the 787-9. Granted, the aircraft has to be premium heavy, as well as have a wellbeing zone, so it's understandable that a larger aircraft was selected. However, Qantas did use the 787-9 to test the project.

@@sainnt the PS A350 config is for weight. There’s also an extra centre line fuel tank on these special A350-1000’s. 787 can’t touch it.

Thank goodness mate!! Qantas hasn't ordered the 777X. It would have warranted a 2 hour video!!
@sainnt
@sainnt 4 ай бұрын
Qantas also didn't order any 777s either, even though they were instrumental in the design. They also didn't order the 747-8. I think that both of those decisions hurt them in the long run. We'll see how the A320 series and A350 works out for them. Too soon to tell at the moment, even though both the XLR and Project Sunrise planes are late.

@@sainnt I agree with your sentiments re 777 but not the 747-8. A-380 is a far superior product in every way. Hardly anyone ordered the last jumbo.

I see your point in the video, sure! But, imho the airlines are to blame themselfs for these issues. At least many... When thinking back to Covid, nobody, no airline wanted any new jets. All the Aircrafts were parked and stored away... The most important parts here are the supplychanes. Because production was holted (or at least shut to very low rate) all the supplieres and contractors etc had to shut down there production aswell as Airbus and Boeing. Nowadays they want these new jets, but the manufactureres first have to ramp up production again, which is way more complicated than many would think! IF they had commited to the production a few years ago, we won't have these problems today... Cheers!

Airbus should have put made the Airbus a321XLR with a carbon reinforced fiber wing instead of having a larger fuel capacity. It would have been more money upfront but less money in delays.
@steinwaldmadchen
@steinwaldmadchen 5 ай бұрын
CFRP is extremely difficult to manufacture, even more than metal ones. No programs with CFRP wings (787, A220, A350 or MC21) have plans to scale beyond 14/month, way lower than what Airbus needs for A321NEO. Can say the forementioned composite programs are smooth sails either.

One of the biggest issues Qantas is having with customers is their tendency to combine Qantas flights with Jetstar flights on a single itinerary. This means that a customer would be shifted from a higher quality of service to a much lower one. That's like going from a Singapore airlines flight to Scoot They need to put an end to this practice as soon as possible.

Are you insinuating that somehow Airbus is treated more preferably than Boeing? There is a good reason to mistrust and not take Boeing seriously after their deliberate shortcuts in Max’s certification and manufacturing led to deaths of hundreds of passengers on Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines flights that crashed due to and exclusively because of Boeing’s staff gross negligence. Corporate American greed against the lives of the aircraft passengers. A theme that has had so many iterations.
