the first one has to be filmed with quite a long zoom, so the field of view is narrow and they look similar in size, thus much closer to each other than they actually are... No way this would have happened they way it looks...
@grahammonk80132 сағат бұрын
@panda4247 The zoom *does* compress things, but the apparent size is similar enough that I think it got a lot closer than either pilot or ATC intended. *EDIT* It was a formation flyover over Sidney. So definitely a LOT closer than would normally be allowed. If you watch the source video, you will note that the leading airplane stays lower than the trailing one to avoid flying into the wake turbulence which sinks.

It's one of the coolest parts about approaching an airport in a car in locations where taxiways go over some roads. If the airport is busy enough you're pretty much guaranteed to see a plane taxiing while you're on the road. In my experience this is more common in Europe where airports won't be far from cities in the middle of nowhere, but closer to population centers and roadways. In Germany especially there are several airports with taxiways over the Autobahn (highway). Leipzig has several going over the A14 (one runway on each side!), Frankfurt one over the A3. Leipzig airport is actually well-known for this, check out their layout on a maps app or search for _Leipzig airport bridge_ images for some crazy shots… 🤯
