Funny you should say that, as I felt that the week was a failure as far as getting much done on Arete. So much other stuff interrupted the car progress. Good weeks to come and then you will think I am a time management genius. Ha!

I completely enjoy your vids and I’m happy that your son is joining his “ol man” with the KZbin channel. Hopefully you don’t lose focus on the current project as so many KZbinrs tend to do, the next project will be waiting once the homemade super car is done.

Don't be surprised, but I usually have a half dozen project in the works between gardening, remodeling and architectural drawing. The Arete project sees sudden spurts of greater dedication and progress on occasion. . . .I see one coming soon!

People have made hot wire foam cutters out of cheap battery chargers, often you can get one for less than components to make it. If you do try to make one from a battery charger the cheapest simplest ones are the best to use as the better ones have too much electronics in them to protect or condition the batteries etc. so when you connect the wire it will either shut off blow a fuse or pulse madly or cook the electronics
@BuilderCreator3 жыл бұрын
When the old system came up missing, I thought about grabbing something simple, but then thought, "I may be doing lots of foam in the future," why not a dedicated power supply that could handle long or short lengths and thick or thin nichrome?

I will be showing how fasteners are bonded into the laminate for attaching parts if that is what you are looking to see. Stay tuned.

Maybe i missed it... but how are you not going to have 5/6 reverse gears and 1 forward? I know kitcar guys that use a 911 trans have to flip the internal diff because it is designed to sit in front of the motor. This trans is designed to sit behind it so being out front means it will spin backward, therefore all forward gears are now reverse gears. Do you have a plan for that?
@BuilderCreator3 жыл бұрын
This is not an "off-the-shelf" center diff, I am building it from other transfer case components. The shaft rotations will all rotate correctly. Output to the front diff will be in the right rotation (Engaging the helical, not trying to climb out), but would have turned the axles backward if it was not flipped (as in the Porsche box scenario you described) I could have used a diff from a truck, but finding matching gear ratios and the fact that they usually have long input yokes (the Corvette Getrag diffs are nice and short with a bolt flange) swayed me into the direction of just doing the flip up front. Hope that helps.

Is your vehicle going to be all wheel drive, if you said it in a early video sorry, must of missed it.
@BuilderCreator3 жыл бұрын
All wheel drive-yes.
@davidbeer3 жыл бұрын
Chain driven centre differential. Is that something that is commonly used? Up to the task? Personally I don't know. What is the consensus of opinion? Honestly, I am uneducated in this area..
@BuilderCreator3 жыл бұрын
Almost all high horsepower transfer cases in trucks are chain driven. The chain and viscous coupling I am using came from a truck (GMC Typhoon) transfer case. It was a popular drag racing truck in its day.

Can the transfer case not be rotated, or would that throw off the propeller shafts?

The shaft rotations and the viscous coupling bias is wrong. I will go over the theory in detail in the near future.

In the wiring diagram why are the switches on the negative side of the circuit. Is that not dangerous in regards to an accidental grounding even with the switch off?
@myopinion694203 жыл бұрын
It's an AC circuit, there is no "negative" both the "active" and "neutral" have potentially lethal voltages. In a perfect world, the neutral wire should be 0v, but it's not usually the case. Also, wiring errors occur regularly where a home owner or even an electrician gets the active and neutral mixed up at the socket. The transformer should protect the user. As it maxes out at 6v, pretty hard to electrocute yourself at 6v. Also, if the workshop is relatively new, it should be wired with rcd's
@leckspert3 жыл бұрын
@@myopinion69420 thanks for the info, very well explained.
@BuilderCreator3 жыл бұрын
You are correct that in all these components with AC the power and neutral legs can be swapped. My error on the first round was using a DPDT switch out of my "stash" that had no documentation and being lazy. Rather than assume it was like "the other guys" I should have just taken a few minutes and checked the continuity across the legs. Luckily just some smoke and a new switch (x2 on/ off switch fried as well). The Arc fault breaker didn't even see an event as the transformer adsorbed the rest of the heat.
