A66 Structural arterial spacers AKA- Coolant lines. Arete Supercar Project

Why have tubes that move coolant back and forth just hanging there, when you can use them as structural pieces! That is the juxtaposition of this episode; coolant lines only for transfer or give them a second purpose? By adding coolant lines built out of 4130 steel with multiple mounting points, we create a structure that will hold our 2 sub-frames spaced apart correctly and mechanically linked. Now we can work on the mechanical components and the monocoque tub independently and only put them together when absolutely necessary..

Awesome! Every time I see that orange color in steel tig welds it reminds me of spending weeks going behind my students fixing leaks in argon hoses. I’m glad your videos aren’t too long or I’d never get anything done.

I look forward to these videos more and more with every update. I'm assuming that you're working on a concrete floor? Don't assume that concrete is flat or level, it quite often is out by a ¼ inch or more, especially over longer distances like the length of the car. Keep it up!

How do you determine when a change is needed without making an install. It would seem as you continue building then determining a change is needed?
@BuilderCreator
@BuilderCreator 3 жыл бұрын
A couple of things trigger changes- The original intent just wont work or better ideas come along. In both cases the changes can be done in my head before I get to the work, or sometimes you just have to cut out the old and redo it.

The voiceover volume is much lower than the organic audio when you talk to the camera. Try to talk to the mic in the same volume because what happens if we raise the volume during the narration and when the video cuts to you behind the camera your voice BLASTS out the speakers. Otherwise, great stuff as always.

A select group of videos are numbered (this is number 66 - A66= Arete 66 as of April 2021) showing the progress of the car. There are also 2 overview videos showing about a years worth of work in each, labeled part 1 and part 2.

Sir, are you planning to make the chassis for the Arete similar to the chassis of TVR? like a backbone chassis... Thanks.
@BuilderCreator
@BuilderCreator 3 жыл бұрын
Yes and no! Most of the strength and stiffness will be in the center tunnel, but the whole tub acts as a unit with no chassis- so to say.

No one expects to crash except for demolition derby drivers. The design of the front sub frame has me a little worried for you in the event of a crash at greater than 35 mile per hour. It looks a bit too strong and too straight making it likely to punch through into the cabin. You may need to do some slight modification so that it either collapses onto itself or deflects under the cabin. A couple of strategic dents and angles will do the trick
@BuilderCreator
@BuilderCreator 3 жыл бұрын
I think you will see as the tub comes together your fears will dissipate. The weak spot is being T-boned just behind the front wheels. Would like to have extended the door crash bar up to the front subframe, but just can't. Will be beefing up the side longerons to transfer such an impact on.
@anomamos9095
@anomamos9095 3 жыл бұрын
@@BuilderCreator if you design the side intrusion bar as part of the hinging and locking structure you can achieve a great deal of rigidity and crash protection. Historically side anti intrusion bars have always been an afterthought once the door etc has already been designed. The scenario is usually Oh Crap we have to stick what , where?
@davidhope5875
@davidhope5875 2 жыл бұрын
Great idea, until you run boiling water through those pipes and they expand, pushing the subframes apart and ripping the shell in half.
@BuilderCreator
@BuilderCreator 2 жыл бұрын
Well, only one side will be boiling water, so it will expand and bend the car, resulting in a continuous left turn . . . if it weren't for the rubber isolation on final assembly.
