2:09 Why does the image quality get bad when you keep the ISO high and crank up the aperture? I thought that the amount of noise would stay the same.
@dylanevans56444 жыл бұрын
The noise will be roughly the same, actually even a bit better as you open the aperture and allow more light into the camera. It looks like there is more noise simply because the additional light in the image makes it easier to see.

Very incredible footage, Cody. I like your angled shots. I was thinking whether it would have been better to have it locked at 12,800 ISO for this video if it is SLOG3? I was going to do a low light video on my A7SIII at the beach as well in SLOG3. I am wondering if having it locked between 12,800 and 25,600 ISO range would be ideal. I am going to have it in aperture priority mode so if it gets too bright in places, the shutter will go way up to compensate. I do not want it to go any lower than 12,800 to prevent unwanted noise.

Why does the alarm go off when opening the car with the key? Yes, it's an old technique, but I know no car that does this - electrical key fob or not. The key always is a backup option to open the car when the car or key fob has no power (except Teslas and other cars using a key card I guess). My experience is limited to a 1990s VW Bus, 2000s VW Sharan, 1990s Volvo, 2010s BMW, plus some I don't know the name of anymore (obviously not my cars, family and friends I have observed over the years).

it all has to do with which picture profile you’re shooting in - the camera has something sort of like dual base iso, and the 2nd base starts 4 stops above the native base for the profile that you’re in - Phillip bloom has a great explanation of it (with examples) on his channel

Mmmm swiss cheese lol! While this looks like a low light beast, the Sony cameras are ISO invariant, so pushing the ISO will not *create* noise unto itself, as once was the case. When you film a well lit building in a dark scene at ISO 80,000, you won't get the terrible noise you might be expecting because the sensor is able to write to the pixels an actual interpreted signal the light is allowing it to read. When you were under the street lights at 80,000, the image looked pretty good because the sensor could read a signal and the ISO was able to boost the exposure, when you were in the car at 51,200 the image was pretty cruddy as the sensor struggled to properly write each pixel with a good signal without the light sources, cranking up the ISO is just adding artificial light to the poorly interpreted signal, not really boosting it. ISO is really not what it used to be in old DSLRs where the technology was not ISO invariant. This is why turning the ISO up on those cameras even on a well-lit seen made them look horrendous. If you're interested in testing this theory, find a well lit scene, underexpose by several stops in aperture and shutter speed then crank up the ISO to something absurd for the scene, on a modern camera, you will not find any appreciable difference in noise over the same image being taken with a more traditional exposure triangle. I think you did a great job demonstrating that the Sony does a great job in utilizing a killer sensor to interpret signal in low light, turning up the ISO just allows us to see that good signal (or in other cases not so good signal) by brightening it. The thing that is commonly misunderstood however, is that an ISO setting i.e. 80K is not really a standard (contrary to what the nomenclature would suggest) 80K in one scene may look perfect and ISO 6,000 on the same camera can look like it was shot on a potato with the same camera in a different scene. Just a little camera edification 😉 have fun with your new toy and keep up the awesome content!
