This goes to show engine tuning is not for everybody. Only trust reputable tuners that offer warranty and certificate, as you may also have issues with your APK/MOT due to the higher emissions.

Very interesting thank you! Any other issues you would worry about with a stock B38?

We've not had any major failures on standard vehicles so nothing else to be concerned about really

I've had 2 B38s. Upgraded 1st one [2015] to get an M version (leather seats and aesthetic embellishments and "look" of a 140i). Current one is a 2018 with 30km on clock. So low km. Fabulous engine. Just leave it stock and all is fine. If you need more power; buy a 125i etc😊

how fast you wanna go with this engine? If wanna go faster, just get the 3 series or anything above it. Thanks for the info 👍🏻

How much was this engine tuned? Would you even consider tuning it with the stock pistons? The i8 version better pistons, rods and even a better cylinder head i think.

To be fair we don't actually know what tune it had fitted. We suspect it was just a poor quality map file.

Is it safer not to remap a 3 cylinder engine then? Or make sure it’s a reputable remapping manufacturer first?
@aasilencersltd2 жыл бұрын
As with any change in engine control software, you have to make sure it is 100% tested and suitable for the application. We see too many cars that have had remaps from a "mate" or a back street garage which have caused more problems than enough.

Just go for it as long as it is a reputable tuning company. Did mine in the Netherlands.

Don't get why people want to mod and map a 1.5 engine....problem is as well most 1 series are bought by KZbinrs and teens and modified then sold and the new customer has no idea, i bought a 1 series from Evans Halshaw that turned out to have a map installed and other mods under bonnet tucked away, safe to say i rejected it but yeah the complete bmw used market in the UK is filled with mapped and modified cars so be careful buying one.

I have just brought a bmw from Evan’s halshaw a 218i the thing drinksss im filling up 3 times a week only a 1.5 I think there is a tune on it
@danielwalker2968 ай бұрын
That's the problem with BMWs and buying used Fiestas they 100% have been modded at some point and you can't say for sure if the engine is tuned, i would have it looked at and have it taken off if its drinking fuel that bad.@@R-lhH

In the UK there seems to a lot of bad maps going around. I’ve been driving my previous car 218I coupe for 80.000km with stage I on top speed every weekend on the Autobahn. No issues whatsoever.

Have you got the 3 cylinder? I’m thinking about buying one but I’ve heard some stuff that’s putting me off a bit but are the issues mainly caused by a bad map?

@@jamesloader2771 Yeah I do, Love it Nippy car with the ZF8 Had turbo problems but I think that was me ragging it when it was cold

@jamesloader2771 I've had two 3 cylinder 118i cars. Current car is 2018. Punchy torque and fun to drive. Avoid mapping. If you need more power buy a 125i or the mighty B58. I just think screwing around with a factory set car is crazy. Just an opinion!😊
@derekdalton5658 Жыл бұрын
Yeah. It's nuts to fiddle with them. My 118i has plenty of torque. I say buy a 125i if you "need" more power. Didn't that Bret Barnes fellow cook his engine by fiddling with it. Crazy.
