Have heard few comments here on the meaning of the song / disappointment with the video and its concept. Here is an attempt to explain what i felt. This is a very old folk song by Kavalam Narayanapanikkar and the song and its original lines outlines the guidelines of a virtuous social life though simple lyrics, as most of Kavalam's works are. It starts with outlining a picture perfect village scene (banyan tree, temple, temple pond) and then to the need to have good human beings (administrators, commoners) to retain the equilibrium. Now if you look at the lyrics so far, all this still holds true even today except for one small section in the original poem which says "Women of the households should be well behaved"... Now that is the crux of this video and its interpretation by Masala Cafe. Even today, we live amongst hostility and violation of basic safety and rights for women and no amount of social progress seem to have made any impact on this department. The picture perfect village/urban life, the need for good administrators are all needed even today, but the concept of the role of women in the society had to be changed and even such a beautiful song is quite regressive in that aspect. By dedicating the song to women, also by totally breaking the concept of "well behaved women" this video stays beautifully relevant to today's context than a run off the mill cover song thats quite popular in Malayalam parallel music scene.

Nicely done... i felt the vocals could have been better... but the musical score was nicely done... the music video was excellent too. i fail to see why some ppl are overly critical of the fact that the girls just being comfortable in their skin... or why they are wanting it to be more traditional. This is a classic song that is updated and redone whilst still being true the classic. is it not possible for an average person, to enjoy the classics... and thats basically what the video is about... about joy nostalgia.
