Aaliyah actually had an almost 4 octave spanning vocal range. she had a really strong, resonant voice but preferred to sing with raised larynx or in falsetto for stylistic choices. there are some songs and live performances where she's blowing like the 90's diva. Aaliyah actually had a great voice, she just chose to sing in this laid back cool smooth style, but there’s a couple of ballads that showed what she was capable of vocally. I believe she would’ve eventually started showing off that side of her voice more and really grew into being recognized as a vocalist vocalist. Just my theory.
