this song spoke to me on so many levels. It brought me back to my great grandpa's back porch on a summer day way back when i was 8 years old. my great grandpa taught me how to shoot with his old Springfield trainer(1903 chambered in 22lr). I still have that rifle and as the song said it damn sure aint for sale. It sits in the antlers of the first buck i ever took with him. when i look at that rifle i see pap's big old smile and think back to the many great times i had with pap.

I don’t understand all these accidental shootings and killings of children today? This video depicts my life as well, raised around guns. We were taught to respect guns, never to touch guns unless it was time (hunting with adults) and, the fear instilled kept us from temptation.
@jordanwiley45822 жыл бұрын
Like you said, you were raised to respect guns. These damn kids today are taught by the media and shitty parents that guns are what give a person respect and they are the only solution to their problems.

Exactly my grandfather always told me to teach it like a loaded gun never point at someone unless you are defending yourself and always know what you are shooting when hunting he was a drill sergeant also a dept sheriff before he retired

When my grandfather passed most of everything went to auction aside from some family heirlooms. For some reason, paps shotgun went to auction. I told everyone that I intended to buy it. Noone in the family bid against me but a lady I didnt know did. We went back and forth for a little bit and finally I just looked at her and said "You dont have money to buy that shotgun". I think she understood and stopped bidding against me. Monetarily, its not worth much but I have it and its not going anywhere until my great nephews can understand where it came from.

When my grandpa moved into his new house last summer, he left me his gun case and his old muzzle loader. He had a stroke 4 months later and died two weeks after. I am never letting it go. Edit: My father passed this last Christmas, and I intend on turning the 12 gauge he bought me for my 12th birthday into a heirloom

My Grandpa over thanksgiving just gave me the first gun he ever bought. It is an old Springfield 16 gauge single barrel shotgun that he saved up for and bought brand new at the department store for $16. That thing is getting hung up on my wall and it will be my "o $#!t there is a fire" item. He had serious brain cancer, and they had to put a port in the top of his head for the chemo to do it's job. Luckily he kicked cancer's butt and he is still pushing forward.

Never had a song remind me of my Grandaddy so much. He was a firefighter, a true hero. His gun was given to him by the police chief during a riot. He passed it to my Daddy, who bestowed upon me when I decided to go into law enforcement.

I got three shot guns from when my both my grandfathers died , I got a mossberg 410 from my moms dad when I was 12 . At 15 when my dads dad died I couldn’t believe my eyes he left all the guns to me because I’m the only one other than my dad and uncle who shoots , he gave me a Winchester 12 gauge semi auto 1400 mk2 and a single shot 12 gauge. This song gives me goosebumps every time, I’m 17 and never gonna sell them they are staying in the family .

My granddad passed away last year from cancer. He had always loved hunting and trap shooting, so he had a small collection of mostly vintage firearms. I asked my grandmother if it would be OK if I could have one of his shotguns to hunt with, as I'm sure my granddad had done. She allowed me to have his Model 1929 single shot 20 ga, since it was not if much use to my uncle and cousin (whom my granddad had often gone shooting with). I'm taking that very shotgun out squirrel hunting on opening day tomorrow in his memory.

Sadly I never got to know either of my grandfathers. Unfortunately both my mom and dad's fathers passed before I could know them.😥 But I imagine the grandfather in this story could be considered as one of the coolest ever. I imagine most don't give their grandsons something as cool as a 12 gauge double barrel shotgun for their 13th birthday especially a family heirloom gun. Can't help but wonder why his own son was passed over? Were they estranged,were the grandparents raising him because his parents couldn't either because they were gone or lost both custody and their parental rights,or did the kid's father just not want it? Though I can't imagine any kid who wouldn't be ecstatic if their dad wanted to pass down something like that to them especially a son.😉
