As a foreigner who has studied the founding father's philosophies with great interest I firmly believe that prohibition is still the single greatest failing of the otherwise providentially visionary system they created. That such a tiny minority who actually believed in the "evils of alcohol" could force through a law that the vast majority clearly did not support. It changed the face of taxation and policing and the attitude of the government and its agents to their role of responsibility to the people.
@CR3W1SH03S6 күн бұрын
The visionary system that our Founding Fathers created has been so thoroughly corrupted and detached from the Constitution, that I'm pretty sure our Founders would be slinging lead and stacking bodies by now. I'd argue that 90% of what the federal gov't does in NOT covered in the enumerated powers that the States delegated to it in 1788.

@LRRPFco5217 күн бұрын
I did a large post with sources on Sniper’s Hide about it, after 40+ years of research into ATF history. Alcohol sales actually dropped in the 1910s and the Booze Lobby was a huge influence in US politics at the Federal and State level. They raked in billions in revenue from alcohol taxes. The Irish had clawed their way up into firm political positions by the late 1800s, so when the waves of Italians, Russian Jews, and other unwanted low-skilled classes of people flooded into the US after the 1903 Immigration Act, the Irish and Native WASP gangs/politicians saw the new-comers as a threat. Italian, Sicilian, and Jewish organized crime made it that much more of a threat to the existing criminal/political class. That’s why the nativists and Irish passed the Sullivan Act in NYC in 1911, to deny the new-comers access to their rights of self-protection, then issued permits to all their cops/security guards to protect the existing rackets. 1934 NFA was basically a Sullivan Act for the whole Nation. J.Edgar Hoover filled FDR and Homer Stille Cummings’ brains with this insane idea that 500,000 gangsters like John Dillinger were out there armed with Thompsons and sawed-off shotguns, Colt automatics stuffed in their pants. If you read the NFA hearings, they mentioned Dillinger repeatedly over the 5 days of the hearings. When Colt was brought in to testify about how many Thompsons they made, they said only 20,000 had been produced and most not sold. Customers included the Postal Service, some LE departments, and ones that had been bought by the US Navy. Those were the original Model 1921, superb quality Thompsons with a crazy target style rear sight, insane fit/feel/finish, and really nice wood. There were really only a handful of gangs in the Midwest who were causing problems for the Mafia/Police State. Mafia bought Congress, the Judiciary, and the FDR Presidency. They were fully invested in the banking industry because they were getting buried in cash-flow from alcohol sales, prostitution, gambling, murders, and other scams. They hated the fact that Dillinger was burning mortgage records on his way out the door from bank heists, and Hoover hated him because he made Hoover’s G-Men look like amateurs that they were. It’s a very captivating and never-ending story if you go down that rabbit hole. Short story is that the ATTU, ATU, and ATF were creations of the Mafia. Look at the last names. Hoover’s official position was that the Mafia didn’t exist. They literally had photos of him and Clyde Tolson, his husband, engaged in lewd acts. Hoover did the Mafia’s bidding. There were photos of him and Giancanna chilling by the pool in Vegas that have been scrubbed.

@@LRRPFco52 Many thanks for this context on the political side of things. Goes to illustrate the twisted interests behind firearms regulation.
@LRRPFco5215 күн бұрын
@@waylonk2453 The short story with the NFA is that the mafia doesn't want its victims armed. They gained so much power through prohibition that they were able to extend their rackets even further and deeper all over the country. Law enforcement was fully corrupted by the mafia and never cleaned up after. This is why you have a lot of jackboot behavior within LE agencies from major cities down to small towns. They were along for the ride with the transition from booze to narcotics, so LE agencies and their organized crime overlords pivoted into the profits from heroin, cocaine, MJ, and amphetamine sales. The DEA is another Mafia enforcer ring who keeps the primary profiteers with the wise guys, snuffing out new entrants into the market. Notice how after billions of dollars spent, there is no reduction in availability. Quite the opposite. "We're taking drugs off the streets!" Lol

@@VoluntaryPlanet When I went looking for the DOJ in the Articles of the Constitution and couldn't find it, I ended up at that conclusion. The history of the creation of the FBI is very interesting. Originally called the Bureau of Investigation, it was started by Charles Joseph Bonaparte. The booze lobby in Congress opposed it, including John Fitzgerald. Congress was very opposed to a secret police until they realized it would be a praetorian guard for their corrupt activities. Then they switched their votes in favor of it. Nobody ever talks about this history. Attorney General Bonaparte had been illegally borrowing Secret service agents and PIs and using them to spy on politicians.

That implies those that were in it get to "walk free, and go about their lives"... A RIGHT DELAYED = A Right Denied!!!...This includes "justice" related rights. IF 1x person violates rights of 350mil people JUST ONCE = its a few dozen felonies (already downplaying it), IF 50x ppl working in collab w/ 100s of 1000s of others (from diff agencies) violate Rights of 350mil ppl DAILY... There's not an adequate word to describe this 'class of crime'. Its far above 'felony or crimes against humanity': sedition/treason. just scrapes the surface of what is truly happening.

Everything is emotional, everything is "my team vs. your team," everything is "this is the most important election of our lives!!!1" It's just exhausting. And to your point I think it's within states' rights to regulate it, and I think it's within the fed's rights to regulate the interstate transport of it. That doesn't mean I think it should necessarily be regulated or heavily taxed, just that it is within those respective governments' rights to do it.
