I was tired as hell since I was doing two long trips from Puerto Rico to Canada and back none stop, which were job related. He looked as tired as I was because he was out there in Texas giving training, and us being two older guys, we sat down and spoke awhile. He made my day.

My dad had a retired Sgt1st Class from WWII and the Korean War working for him for a time. I remember most of his stories (the ones he felt ok to talk about). One of them was when he was in Korea. The Chinese would attack all hopped up on drugs. His 30 cal. carbine just wasn't doing the job. When they got close enough he said he would pull his 1911. That's when they started to drop. Granted the evolution of bullets has improved over time but that story alone will have me a .45 lover forever.

On the off chance you see this comment Shawn, I had the pleasure of talking to a surgeon when I worked at a hospital who was well versed in gunshot wounds. The cavitation effect on average 45 over 9mm to the human body seems marignal on paper but the actual impact (with right ammo choice) 45 has an easier time achieving that high damage threshold. He also went on to say that 5.56 usually passes through at such velocity that the wound channel isn't as detrimental to survival as you would think. In a way a rifle wound could be easier to patch up than a pistol round due to ammo choice and muzzle length. And thats why I choose a shotgun for home defense. He told me he hasn't seen many shotgun in juries, because they are mostly fatal.
@squizzyt86989 сағат бұрын
Excellent comment - value info...thanks
@jasonwilson41389 сағат бұрын
Well that surgeon lives in fairy tell land. There is no reality that a fucking handgun does more damage, at any range, then a fucking long gun. As an aside, the 5.56 (m855a1) that is issued now is designed to fragment. m855 would fragment at higher velocities.
@BlueJayWaters8 сағат бұрын
@jasonwilson4138 what's issued to the military is not what we are seeing in the civilian world. As far as I know, he did not serve and has no experience with military grade ammo, only what people can acquire on the streets. You also don't seem to understand the point, a pistol round can do more damage than a rifle, not that it does. It comes down to cavitation, or vital organ impact. If a slower round drags in the body, it will have a wider wound channel than a high velocity round. But muzzle velocity, barrel length, grains, and type of bullet all are factors here. And considering the wounds I personally saw with 9mm and 5.56, there is a valid argument for caliber choice in defensive firearm usage
@jasonwilson41388 сағат бұрын
@BlueJayWaters As someone who served as combat medic from 00 to 08 and who held a paramedic license until 2013, I understand quite well. Cavitation is caused by kinetic energy, mass comes into play, but velocity is the overwhelming factor. Most old wives tells come directly from Doctors, either through a lack of time or inability to communicate their acquired knowledge. I will eat a .45 at 50 meters to my thoracic cavity any fucking day of the year before I take a .223 from 100 meters. Could a handgun cause more damage, sure, depending on shot placement. Given a choice, pray you are being sprayed by handgun rounds and not rifle. You are completely correct about shot placement, a 22 to your frontal lobe is infinitely worse than a m2 50 to your leg.
@armorers_wrench8 сағат бұрын
@@BlueJayWaters The fact that you have so much confidence repeating nonsense is hilarious. There is NO SCENARIO in which a pistol round will do more damage than a 5.56. The rifle wound is ALWAYS going to be more significant assuming the rounds enter the same part of the body. Did you happen to see what Kyle Rittenhouse did to that guys arm? It literally blew his bicep apart. The other guys died instantly. No fancy m855a1 required, Rittenhouse used the cheapest bullshit .223 ammo that was available at the peak of the 2020 riots and we all know that means he had under loaded PMC bronze or maybe even steel case. Quit making claims that you then try to back up with technical sounding vernacular. You don't know what you're talking about and its very obvious.

with modern ammo,, over penetration is less of an issue, but in years past, i carried 45 because its a large slow moving heavy round that gets it done without the concern of over penetration. THe problem with 9mm is that its traveling so fast it punches right thru and I dont want to hit anything i am not shooting at. Modern munitions often mitigate this issue. the benefit to 9mm is that it is a world wide round, almost every country in the world uses it.

11:00 Years ago I went to a presentation by a surgeon at Range54 in Wichita, KS. He was an ER doctor from Kansas City. He'd done over a thousand ER surgeries on gunshot victims in KC. He was also a shooter so he made note of what he was seeing in the gunshot wounds, talking to the cops and seeing what people were getting shot with. He said in all those surgeries there was virtually no difference in the entries, cavities, and occasional exits created by 9mm or .45. He said that it's probably due to the advancements in modern 9mil. "Lay them open side by side in a human body - no difference." 17:20 Holy shit I haven't heard anyone talk about Robert Bussey since I was a kid! I love that dude
