As a Mets fan, this guy is incredible. His curveball is a thing of beauty. 1:17 shouldn't have been a strike but it was a great pitch, and obviously even better framing by the catcher.

Nola did well. I am a Mets fan.....an almost 60 years old Mets fan.....I saw Tom Seaver's 1970 performance where he struck out the last 10 batters to end the game. Complete game giving up 2 hits and striking out 19.

Congrats to Nola. I'm so glad that the record was tied and not broken. I have been following the Mets since 69. Tom Seaver was my all time favorite player. That must have awesome to have watched a game like that. I am 60 years old and saw Seaver and Carlton at Vet stadium in 1970 with Seaver coming out on top 3- 0 with 10 k's All three runs were homers !

Most of those clips were clean strikeouts. And calling balls and strikes is not as easy as it looks in person.

@@likkerland all it takes is 1 of those strike 3s to go the other way to negate the record. And that 3rd strikeout, the pitch was over the chalk of the batters box but was still called strike 3. It was not even close to being a strike.
@likkerland
@likkerland 3 жыл бұрын
@@joshcurtis386 I would like to see you be a professional Umpire and call balls and strikes. I guarantee you that you will make crappy calls because it's humanly impossible to make every pitch call correctly with the dimension of each hitter's strike zone. Being a home plate umpire is one of toughest jobs in professional sports. Hitters and Pitchers get their fair share of poor calls each game on a side note.
@joshcurtis386
@joshcurtis386 3 жыл бұрын
@@likkerland it’s also not my job that I’ve had decades of training and experience in, I’m also not being paid $200k or more a year to do it. If the umpire making a bad call impacts the game, and in this instance it affected a record setting game, then that’s more than just a regular old mistake. And again, the strike 3 in question was very far off the plate, the plate that is the same size for every batter from HS to college, through all minor league levels, and in every MLB game. That dimension doesn’t change so it should be easier to get right.
@likkerland
@likkerland 3 жыл бұрын
@@joshcurtis386 You should know that it is still incredibly difficult for even the most experienced, veteran umpires to make the approximate correct call each pitch especially with movement of each pitch coming in. And you should know that the home plate umpire is more likely to call a strike on questionable strikes or even obvious balls when a hitter has two strikes on them and just ring them up similarly to how if the hitter has 3 balls they are more likely to call a base on balls on pitches nipping the strike zone that could have been strikes. And you also should know that the way the umpire perceives the ball as it passes the plate. That's why each umpire in the league has a different perception of the strike zone especially on the corners and edges of the zone. And when If you want to continue this debate, take it up with Dan Bellino, the home plate umpire in that game because we as viewers of the game can't do nothing about it now, even if it was a record tying performance by Nola. P.S. when I was talking about strike zone dimensions, I was referring to the varying height of each batter which obviously changes the length of the strike zone.

Every pitch, lower spin rate than average. 150rpm lower than avg on his four seam and sinker. Velo for the game was also down across the board. His spin rates have recently improved despite the substance ban. I see no indication he’s using a banned substance..
