Excellent presentation of Aaron's life and career. I interviewed Aaron Pryor in 2004. He was having some trouble with nerve damage in his neck at the time, but he was friendly, engaging, lucid, and seemingly at peace. He was studying to become a deacon at a local church at the time. He was a lot of fun to be around on that day. We watched some tapes of a few fights after the interview was completed. What really stood out in the interview was his memory. I was actually nervous about interviewing him because he had been diagnosed with pugilistic dementia several years earlier. He remembered everything, and his speech was clear. It was an honor to interview him. Very good natured, generous with his time, and deep down, despite the trials and tribulations of his life, he was a decent human being who meant well. RIP.

I love the fact that Pryor chose to fight Arguello in Miami with a 99.9% pro-Arguello crowd rabidly cheering for every punch Alexis landed and yelling obscenities at Aaron. It made the win even more satisfying, especially seeing those two black people in the crowd celebrating while the rest of the stadium was in stunned silence.

I saw that fight on replay, on TV. Arguello, always the gentleman, fought valiantly but he was no match for The Hawk (smaller eagles). I always rooted for him more because he was usually the younger AND smaller boxer (I'm only 5'5" and never boxed anyone as short as me... only inter-club fights).

Such a dynamic fighter. Not boxer...A FIGHTER! Sad when a person tries to fill an emptiness inside them with drugs. Replacing years of pain with artificial substances to feel good instead only to feel even worse when they wear off. Brutal cycle to get away from. But in the end the Hawk was an all time great and found sobriety in the end. R.I.P and thanks for some amazing memories.

@rush__man I can name many fighters on drugs in the 80s, Tony tubbs, Greg page, Tyson said he was on cocaine. If you don’t like Pryor you don’t have to watch. You should keep that Same energy with every one who is a convict. Or on drugs. As for the mix situation. I stated that I didn’t like that. Obviously I know about Pryors mishaps which I don’t condone them all. There’s no reason to get triggered over a documentary of Aaron Pryor just don’t watch. That is correct I am a student of the game and DONT LIKE the Panama Lewis thing. But after Panama he still was able to have some great wins. So love him hate him it is what it is. I don’t condone the crap surrounding the 1st arquello fight nonetheless.

There were so many exciting fighters at that time, but not many were guaranteed to thrill like Aaron Pryor. The best was when Pryor was knocked down by Dujuan Johnson and the ref turned back to Pryor after motioning Johnson to a neutral corner only to find Pryor gone....he'd gotten up and ran toward Johnson saying "you can't hurt me, I'm too tough", incredible. Too bad he couldn't beat his addictions, there may have been a few more crazy fights to be seen. Sad way to end a great career.

Never do u wanna train a pupil the way Pryor fought but one of TBE. A freak of nature, Pryor, Tyson, Marciano all anomalies cut from same cloth. Scientific brawlers. Pryor took a licking and kept on ticking, Hawk Time. Literally could not be knocked out, in that respect he was invincible cuz he would take major risks while unleashing power combos without gassing out or getting KO’d.

A MASTER of angles! Training to box for years now, my trainer is always yelling MOVE after you punch! Pryor was constant motion and angles, very awkward at times but this led to his success. He would have KO'd Mancini at lightweight and I believe although eventually losing, he would have given Leonard fits. Which is why Ray never fought him. I have heard the reason Ray fought at light welterweight in the amateurs was to avoid Aaron. Another great one Rich! Keep em coming

To summarize, don’t do drugs. This guy beat Alexis Arguello twice. If he could’ve surrounded himself with positive people, we might be talking about one of the greatest P for P’s. Just sad.

@@RonColeman-zy5cd He certainly did not _mix_ pure water with pure water, which is the only thing allowed. Near the end of his life, Panama Lewis would claim that he only mixed mineral water with tap water; which is obviously a lie and would have been illegal in any case. Of course, one only has to consider the source of that nonsense.

He had such an awkward style, it was hard for classic boxers to deal with him, other fighters admitted the bottle had a few illegal substances in it,Lewis was banned from boxing, after doing prison time, nobody ever stayed up from Argulaos right hand intill that night,so it makes you think, but ,especially for the second fight,Alexis admitted he was doing to much coke also and not training right,he did his best work at 123,117,good lightweight, welterweight was to much for him,two tremendous fighters, both gone too early.
