The thing is, Jacob is really good in the first half of this movie. He's really sweet and cares about his friend who literally went catatonic for 3 months cause her man went AWAL. It was the first time she smiled in forever. Then they decided to cut his hair and make him a possessive jackass who doesn't know how to take 'no' for an answer. I ain't saying Edward is healthy and that's he's the better option, I'm saying Bella is an extremely self-deprecating girl from a broken home and has a skewed idea of what a healthy relationship even is, she shouldn't be worrying about all this stuff in the first place. She should be making friends, bonding with her dad, and worrying about what her prom dress is going to look like. Instead, she's isolated from everyone who isn't a supernatural beast, going missing for long periods without telling her father, and is worried if her wedding dress will get ruined in the probably gonna happen upcoming vampire war. Honey, you're in high school. Go do your homework and study. If life is too stressful in the new town you can always move back in with your mom and keep in contact with your dad.

I always really liked Jacob in the first movie and the first half of this movie - after that it’s like he’s a completely different character, his characterisation was completely screwed over after that. In the first movie he was the most likeable character and his conversation with Bella on the beach was the least cringe moment in that movie, back then I craved about wanting a friend like Jacob as he was just this genuinely nice, pleasant person to be around and who you’d want to be friends with (I had no friends and was closeted so was really lonely most of the time). Then new moon happened and even though short haired, shirtless Jacob appealed to me visually I unconsciously saw the Jacob from the first and first half of new moon as two different people.
