GoldenEye 64 is an important piece of gaming history. None of the DBZ or Spongebob games come close to its legacy and even if they did, none of them are singularly tied to a Nintendo platform. Not Battle for Bikini Bottom, not Kakorot, not Xenoverse, not Budokai 3, not Legacy of Goku 2, not even Budokai Tenkaichi 3. If anything, Sony has a bigger claim to DBZ's video game history considering the Boudokai and Budokai Tenkaichi (aka DBZ Sparking! ) games were exclusively on PS2. Anime games in general really (at least globally) have some of their greatest hits exclusively on PlayStation consoles. Also Digimon.

Ill actually argue Fire Emblem even though never came to the US made more sense to add over Famicom Detective and even Earthbound by the fact it was a financially successful franchise. You had up to Melee's development 6-7 games that sold very well, and Sakurai has said Marth was always intended for the first Smash Brothers but was cut because they wanted to use his Fire Emblem 3 design (the one you see in smash) but couldn't get the cape to work.​ @bwackbeedows3629

Banjo and Kazooie got cut because, as you all know, Rare got brought by Microsoft during Melee’s development, and because of copyright issues, the duet got cut from Melee. However, all the universes from Nintendo related to Rare in some way stayed in the game, like the Donkey Kong and the Star Fox universes (Fox, Peppy, Falco and Slippy use their voice from Star Fox Adventure, which was also in development).

Not actually. Golden Eye was developed by Rare, which at the time is a developer for Nintendo, and released exclusively on the N64. Dragonball has almost zero connections with Nintendo, other than 3rd party releases.

A world where James Bond was in Smash Brothers automatically makes Goku slightly more reasonable because he would be an instance of an actual non videogame character in Smash Bros, instead of just some technicality being brought up to try and make the idea of Goku in Smash more reasonable (Technichally a movie character (even though Lucario was designed for the game), Technically a toy (even though R.O.B. was a video game peripheral much like the Super Scope which had been in Smash before R.O.B. I'm pretty sure, and even then R.O.B. does put in an appearance in one of his two debut games anyway.))

@@TheAnimationStationTASThe Bond they were using was specifically Pierce Brosnan (which Rare/Nintendo owned the game rights to). And Goldeneye practically saved the FPS genre after DOOM. So Goldeneye had an impact on Nintendo’s history. For Goku’s case, Sakurai would probably need an explanation on Goku’s impact on Nintendo and the Gaming Industry. FighterZ would be a modern example of successful anime/manga games. Or you can even make the argument of the Shonen Jump exclusive games on the Famicom. He’d also probably back himself up with Hero (who’s already in Smash) and Goku both being designed by Toryiama.

Takamaru was fairly serious, actually. Sakurai opted him out for Duck Hunt due to their more stronger overseas appeal. It is also noteworthy how far along he got when looking at how much more detailed his Assist Trophy is than others and even having a very well done remix of the various tracks from his game. If Smash had been a Japanese only franchise, we would have had a ton of unique fighters for sure. Tachibana almost made it in Melee too, but was canned for the same reasons Takamaru faced later on.

Metal Gear had games on NES and GBC at that time so he had chances joining. It would have been neat to see him back then. Funny enough, he was added to a Smash-like game on GameCube as well, featuring Optimus Prime, Simon Belmont and Bomberman. Both Snake and Simon should have gotten their costumes from there (Simon Kojima and Snake Pliskin) Sonic, meanwhile, wouldn't have joined because he wasn't on Nintendo at time. That is, in a perfect world that Melee had more time, it could have happened because Sonic Adventure 2 for GC and Advance for GBA would have been released before Melee, giving chances to Sonic (because, you know, for a franchise to be represented, it needs games on NINTENDO) Lucas would have been cool but with that design? I dunno... All the NES reps could be cool but I feel Urban Champion should have gotten the spot and used the others as moveset Takamaru was cut from Melee and Smash 4. He deserves to join Mach Rider is neat but I dunno Banjo-Kazooie deserved since ever If there's one Character that's exception to the Goku Rule, it's 007. Of course, it won't happen but would have been cool I feel Wario would have more Land moves than he has now if he was added back then
