Setting up a small livestream studio with the RODECaster Video

Thank you Aaron for an excellent lesson on setting up the RØDECaster Video. I've just ordered one and feel ready to dive straight in to configuring my livestreaming setup. And thanks to Lily for letting her channel be used for the demo. I must check it out too, though I'm not a fan of donuts or cats, her livestream looks very professional.

Great video, Aaron. And I totally agree when it comes to video/scenes and audio sources. Using Wireless Pro mics with it, that option would be very useful, for example in an interview. Probably most useful to able to set it up with scenes. Using one or two Wireless Pro mics with a specific scene.

Oh! Nice, Thanks for the video. This Switcher definitely took care of most of my Audio issues. Does it Stream to multiple Platforms like OseeGo stream, that stream to 3 platform simultaneously?

Thanks! Right now you can only stream to one destination at a time, so you'd have to use a restream service for that.

Yeah, except there are some limitations that may affect your users: 1. You use an XLR mic, but users may think they can put anything into the USB-C inputs It's not well-advertised, but the USB-C ports 4 and 5 can take microphones but only Rode ones. I ended up buying a a Rode NT-USB Mini last night after working on my Hyper-X microphone for a day. 2. Not all devices can go into the USB-C ports I have not gotten my Sony ZV-1F to be connected with streaming on. Same configuration works in OBS but not when plugged into RCV. I thought I was going to do technical videos with hand-drawn input on my reMarkable through the USB-C. I still have not got this to work. At a minimum, there is some unexpected jiggery-pokery necessary for the USB-C ports. I've also had to replace hardware.

It's documented on the specs on the website, but yeah USB 4 and 5 support RØDE mics and the two new RØDECasters. The UVC webcam support is limited to YUV format so not all webcams will work.

Sure, you could output the RØDECaster Video HDMI output into the yolobox. There would be some interesting things you could do with that, but it's not really taking advantage of the two devices in the best way.

Aaron, thnx, great overview / introduction! Because she doesn‘t seem to need a wireless cam (AKA iPad / iPhone), she could dump the AppleTV and connect the iPad via HDMI-Adapter, right?

Yes that's very true! We have the AppleTV so that the iPad isn't tethered to one spot on her desk tho

I really want this but on my workflow I use logo, lower 3rds and tickers.. any ideas on how to do that knowing that it only allows one graphic at a time? Thanks!

hmm yeah it's a bit limiting in that aspect right now, I think you might have to wait to see if they add any features like web graphics overlays in an update, then you could do it if you can get all your graphics into a web page

"downstream" and "upstream" key are such old industry jargon that I really don't mind that they just tossed that all out the window and made things work differently now. You can still overlay a logo with this, it just works entirely differently than what traditional switchers would call "downstream key"

I would buy this in combination with the Osee Gostream Duet instead of the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO and a dual audio interface. It's a brilliantly thought out device.
