Could Rode integrate the video functionalities of the Rodecaster video into the Rodecaster Pro 2 in the next product? That would make for a killer all-in-one device, combining both video and audio capabilities.

I am having trouble foillowing the question at 04:59: "Can the USB webcam inputs receive other switchers' feed through something like a CamLink or other USB Capture Card?" [edited for typos] You reply: "Good news is you can connect a cam link or other capture card as long as it supports UVC. I have tested this with a cam link with a USB-C adapter as well as this noname brand UVC capture card with USB-C on the end of it. Both of these work just fine and you can plug in any HDMI source through this as well. Again, you have to use ports four or five for these; the others do not support webcam inputs so this can give you up to two more HDMI inputs if you really want to." First, I read "other switchers' feed" as being about devices fed into the RodeCaster Video -- like an ATEM Mini Pro? I don't really follow this use case. Does the questioner mean something else? More concretely, what are example configurations we are imagining here? 1. webcam (with HDMI out?) - Elgato CamLink (HDMI in/USB-A out) - USB dongle (USB-A in/USB-C out) - RCV USB-C (USB-C in) 2. ATEM mini (HDMI out) - Elgato CamLink (HDMI in/USB-A out) - USB dongle (USB-A in/USB-C out) - RCV USB-C (USB-C in) 3. vlog camera (HDMI micro out) - cable (HDMI micro in/HDMI out) - Elgato CamLink (HDMI in/USB-A out) - USB dongle (USB-A in/USB-C out) - RCV USB-C (USB-C in) I don't know any webcams that have HDMI out (my limited experience), but there are lots of cameras (Sony ZV-1, Sony ZV-1F, Sony EV-E10?) that have HDMI micro out. Can you not take do this instead? Sony ZV-1 (HDMI micro out) - cable (HDMI micro in/HDMI out) - RCV (HDMI in) [this seems simpler] or Sony ZV-1 (HDMI micro out) - cable (HDMI micro in/HDMI out) - dongle (HDMI in/USB-C out) - RCV (USB-C in) [this does not use a $100 USD Cam Link] What does adding the Cam Link do? I don't believe that the ZV-1 can go to the USB-C because of its video output format (compressed, not raw) or the output being 720 instead of 1080 or something like that -- but could it if the data transited via A Cam Link? In case 2, why would one not just feed the ATEM's HDMI to an HDMI input on the RCV? In case 3, this seems like an insane number of hardware hops. Separately, what is gained by going through the Cam Link to get to a USB-C port on the RCV over going to an RCV HDMI port?

Nice informative, to-the-point video Aaron, with lots of value. Thank you. The product definitely has a “launch version” feel to it for me. Definitely has potential, but just feels a little “clumsy” in some areas. No doubt some future updates will improve it but for me, I think the launch price is just a little too high when compared to some of the more “developed” competition in its targeted market space. I also see a lot of available real estate on the unit for added functionality down the line, so while I think this product is currently a little immature right now, I expect it to be well developed and supported into the future given the company behind it.

Aaron - HELP!! :-) Thanks for your outstanding video. And I have a question. I'm planning to use RodecasterVideo on Wednesday at a conference to display computer (Keynote presentation)/iPhone/iPad content during a workshop. I just got the RodecasterVideo a few days ago and am testing it prior to my presentation. My question is this: Do HDMI A and B (multiviewer and program out) have embedded audio? I've tried it on the hotel room TV and on a separate 15" screen I brought with me, but hear nothing. Is there a setting somewhere I haven't found yet? Surely program audio is embedded in the HDMI main outputs, isn't it? I can't find any mention of audio associated with HDMI A or B in Rode's online user guide, or find any setting in Rode Central software, and I've scoured the Internet and KZbin for any mention of it, but haven't found an answer!
@aaronpk3 ай бұрын
There is a setting for it in RØDE Central! I don't have mine with me at the moment so I can't tell you exactly where it is, but if you dig through all the menus you will find it! I think it's in the device options section
@KerryShearer3 ай бұрын
@@aaronpk Thankyou Aaron! With your help, I was able to find it in the Audio tab of Device Configuration. Q - Hi there!, Great Videos, thank you so much. I have a couple of questions you might be able to answer in one of your next Q&A: 1. Is it possible to control the audio mixer on the Rode central software using USB MIDI control surface, i.e. a KORG Kontrol. 2. More than a question this is a request: For shows where we play back prerecorded clips and editedt clips it would be great to be able to route the playback to either channels 5 or 6, like there is the AUX channel in the Osee Gostream.
@SwitchedOnNetwork3 ай бұрын
Great video, thanks. With the auto-switching, can you map individual channels on a Rodecaster Pro II via the multi-track / USB-C connection or would it just treat all the inputs over there as one single input? Ideally I'd love to have a podcast setup with all the mics / guests' audio etc. running through the Rodecaster Pro II, then the cameras into the Rodecaster Video. Thanks!
@aaronpk3 ай бұрын
Right now all the channels in the RØDECaster Duo get mixed down to a single stereo mix into the RCV. I'm hoping they add multichannel support at some point for exactly the reason you are asking about

Is there a way you know of to copy custom layouts? Say for example you want PiP and have button A have Cam 1 & cam 2 (small) and then button B have the same exact boxes and sizes but have Cam 3 & cam 2 (small)? In other words, I want to "switch" between cameras but keep the same content (cam 2) in the same exact spot in the PiP box? Reply

Sort of! • Create your first PiP layout and save it in scene A • Press "A" to load that scene • Long press "B" and that scene will be saved in scene B • Modify scene B to change the camera of one of the angles

Will any wireless microphone work or only Rode? Can a GoPro work as a webcam input or does it need to be hdmi?
@aaronpk2 ай бұрын
The built in wireless link will only work with RØDE wireless mics. You can of course use any other wireless mic by running the analog audio out of the receiver into the analog inputs. I don't think the GoPros have native USB webcam support, so you would need to use the Media Mod to get an HDMI out from the GoPro. But you might not want to: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZbdgaJ5ZcmBo5Y but if you still do, then watch this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4a5ZaiDd5tjg80

Thank you for answering the question regarding the frame rate of Program recording (60fps) vs ISO recording (30fps). In my opinion it is a shame that the ISO recording is limited to 30fps, especially when the ATEM ISO switchers support 60fps.

This is my only hesitation to buy this as well. Both the ATEM mini ISO line and the Yolobox ultra does support 1080p60 on the isos. Seems odd that they would release something that cant do iso 1080p60

I'm willing to bet the best way to get remote guests in is with zoom ISO but that path is really expensive depending on what you want out of it. There are other ways that cost less to free but you may still need some hardware to pull this off

While a project XML file would be helpful but you don't actually need this to edit multi angles. You can do this in PR either on your own or you can use something like Auto pod to get around the whole XML thing. However you still have to sync up all your shots so it works well. I would suggest nesting everything to achieve this. I do it all the time for a video podcast I run. I use an ATEM ISO to record everything and I don't use the BM project file at all.
@aaronpk3 ай бұрын
Yeah I've never once used the Resolve file that the ATEM makes. But I'm also mostly using it as a multi channel recorder where I do all the editing later, rather than trying to fix a few mistakes in a live edit
