Why would a novice need such exercise ?

no one said this is for novice in term of programming, i.e. a novice doesn't need this exercise to get strong or recuite power. It is a coaching method to introduce someone to the sport of weighlifting(IWF) for the first time, like when Oscar Figueroa was discovered by a local weightlifting coach, he benched 32kg at 20kg BW, but didn't know anything about the split jerk, so an introduction would be necessary.
