Excellent teaching! The positions you put her in enabled excellent leverage with her hip and torso position and an optimal bar bar path from start to finish! Nice to see logical biomechanics!

I don't think I've ever done this exercise (it doesn't look easy) but I plan to give it try next week...with very light weight, of course. Cheers!

better get a coach, it's not easy, it's not enough to watch u tube videos, takes a long time to learn the technique

I'm in the early stages of learning it myself. The advice here about avoiding a vertical back and dropping low at the flick of the wrist is stuff I have to correct the next time out. Been making some UGLY catches.

Sometimes a very light weight will make the momentum/bar path more difficult. Go light, but not TOO light.

@@iJorgePaz the first guys doing the exercise didnt even have videos to watch. You can learn anything watching a vid. Can you do it as fast and as safe as having a coach help you? No. But we dont know Jims goals so we cannot say if fast is even required and you can do everything pretty safe when you just go slowly.

in the drop, you're using the concentric rebound from the triple extension to launch yourself downwards into a squat catch faster than gravity can
@MikeXCSkier
@MikeXCSkier 8 ай бұрын
Concentric rebound? No. You use your arms to pull against the bar and pull yourself down and under the bar faster than the acceleration of gravity.

Hi Rip, my favorite part was at 8:12 when you left and the disembodied abdomen of a fat man taught this lady how to snatch. Is this talking belly an SSC and how do I contact it if so? I liked it's encouraging coaching style and it had a similar voice to yours. Thanks!

How do we train the overhead shoulder mobility for the snatch?
@michaeldyer1396
@michaeldyer1396 Жыл бұрын
Do snatch presses and over head squats.Also use a broom or something similar take a snatch grip put in overhead position and stretch so you are moving arms and broom backwards. I am sure there’s you tube videos on it if this is not clear enough

Requires more power as you have to move the bar higher/faster
@pretty_flaco

because the front rack position is hard for most… also the power snatch is a more powerful, athletic movement
@mackenziebenedict8403
@mackenziebenedict8403 Жыл бұрын
some people with longer forearms can’t get their arms into the proper position at the end of the movement regardless of their hand placement on the bar, so they’d train the power snatch instead of the clean.

You can see it a lot in this lifter: From the hip she has vertical, upright extension and her feet stay in the same place (more or less) From the ground her high hip position puts her in a bad spot to initiate the second pull and she jumps forward upon final hip extension. This again shows that high hips in the first pull can lead to too much horizontal displacement of the bar
@MikeXCSkier
@MikeXCSkier 5 жыл бұрын
The high hip position is cancer. For 40 years weightlifters have used a low hip position with the bar starting over the base of the big toe (roughly). There is no advantage in making the first pull vertical, which is supposedly the whole objective. It has not been shown to increase the amount of weight lifted. But don't bother raising these points because Rippetoe is right because Rippetoe.

Mr. Rippetoe is teaching power snatch, not classic snatch. He even mentions it in the video.
@michaelcabello9664
@michaelcabello9664 5 жыл бұрын
Marek Petrovský doesn’t matter if you catch the bar in the power position (high) or in a full squat (low). There is a correct way to set up the first and second pull and using a high hip method is not it.
@marek_petrovsky
@marek_petrovsky 5 жыл бұрын
@@michaelcabello9664 Thanks for clarification. So the hips in the set up should be lower and the bar a little bit further (over the toes)? I would appreciate your advice.
@michaelsasin7407
@michaelsasin7407 5 жыл бұрын
@@marek_petrovsky Yes, the bar should be at the base of the big toe - roughly. Hips lower. As you lift off the floor the back angle should not change until the bar gets past the knees. Lots of tutorials on this.
