As a state trooper we helped with security at one of Merle Haggards concerts and I got to meet him by shaking his hand. He could have just walked on but instead stopped and told us how much he appreciated me [us] patting my hand. Thank you for this tribute to him. He was not only talented but I believe a good man..

Having spent a lot of time in Bakersfield, I was exposed to both Merle Haggard and Buck Owens, and greatly appreciated what they both did for country music and the community. While both of them have now passed on, they live on through their music and their legacies. A good tribute. I'd wanted to see Haggard live since I was in junior high school I even read his autobiography. Later, I hoboed for several years and his music came to mean much more to me. Forty some years later I finally drove 8 hours one way to see him perform in Charles Town, WV. He died a few months later. If I hadn't made that trip, it would have been one of the regrets of my life.

Haggard was a "farmer" and he sowed his "wild oats", but he sure raised a fine "crop". Merle Haggard, married 5 times, leaves behind six children. He and his wife, Theresa Ann Lane, had two children: Ben Haggard and Jenessa Haggard Bennett. He and his first wife, Leona Hobbs, had four children: two sons, Marty and Noel, and two daughters, Dana and Kelly. He has another son, Scott Haggard, that he didn't find out about until 2004. Merle Haggard had 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

I thank ray Benson for writing what's in my heart everyday . He was my best friend . If not for he and freddy powers I could. Not have survived 1982 When . my dog died on . May 15 my mom on may26 my brother in law in June and my beloved brother went to san Quentin in July on . My birthday I was treated like a queen and comforted like a child should be when tragedy occurs he was my companion when I rambled up and down interstate 5 for about 30 years I only listened to hag and willie in my car I am so blessed to have been a true friend to them both
