Schea is an obvious basketball legend, but he's an absolutely amazing coach and mentor. Thank you for being an example!

I had the pleasure of playing with Schea as a kid; Slam N Jam, Victoria Park at the beginning and am so proud of all he has gone on to do! His story is truly History! Great Ted Talk - proud of you man

His whole story is on the Documentary, " Manchild:. The Shea Cotton Story.". It's pretty good. It won some awards. Interviews with ppl like Paul Pierce, Stephen Jackson, Baron Davis, Jason+ Jaron Collins, Elton Brand about how good he was. I remember his story in SI in high school.

knew a kid like that. Held back two years. facial hair in 8th grade. top 100 on ESPN. lived with his AAU coach. Stopped growing at 5'10 and broke his hand a few times. Stayed on the top 100 all through high school even though he didn't play past sophomore year. Hasn't done well in life outside basketball.

More people like this man should be coaches. No more Lavar Ball. Kids need to understand that they need a foundation if and when they don't make it big.

Lenny Cooke and Schea Cotton are the story that should be told to every kid
@dy1204814 жыл бұрын
They were both held back and were old for their grade. Once everyone else caught up physically they faded away. It happens.

I remember hearing about Lenny Cooke as well, but I never saw any of his highlights in HS. I definitely hope there is a video similar to Manchild. I saw Cotton play Fremont of Oakland in the California state championship (1994). He was only a sophomore and like nothing I had ever seen before. I had I seen Jason Kidd several times in HS a few years before. Kidd was a beast, but Schea Cotton was a literal freak of nature. He effortlessly dominated Fremont that game.

Incredible to see he was that tall, big, strong and superathletic at 14. At 14!! That's what you call "a gift". Too bad he wasn't able to reach his full potential and share it to the world through the NBA.

It's tough when you peak early. By the time he was 21 he was a solid player but not good enough to be a NBA starter.

This has barely anything to do with AAU and everything to do with this guy. Its literally just him talking about himself, this is mistitled
@brucemercer77535 жыл бұрын
What is the point of this talk? He can't tell us ANY of the DETAILS. These things are supposed to have a point, They are not supposed to be some guy telling you a general story about them WITHOUT DETAILS. His life WITHOUT DETAILS is the same story as a couple Hundred Thousand other kids story WITHOUT THE DETAILS. This video was useless. ,

I agree with your question. The main point of the speech itself was not clear. His past story and history while interesting were not followed with a climax or main point. He didn't mention AAU until halfway through the video. Clearly, he feels something is wrong with today's AAU circuit and what happened to him somewhere along his journey, but he did not make that abundantly clear or the main focus of his speech. I am going to look for the documentary and see if that does become more evident.
