This spectacular abandoned victorian mansion Is located in southern Ohio. It was built in the mid-1850s to 1860s but the actual date is unclear. The house is 4600 ft.² and has 17 rooms. The basement is also large and connects to the garage. There is also a large attic with stairs that go into the widows peak. The ceilings range from ~10 to ~14 feet. This combined with the beautiful woodwork make this a one of a kind location.

I live about 5 minutes from the house, me and my friend explored it about 5 years ago. The house is amazing but we had a pretty creepy experience, 2 door slams while we were in the basement. This could’ve been wind since there are many broken/opened windows, but as you mentioned the doors are solid and I don’t think wind could blow that thing shut but who knows. I’m not educated on the history of the house but still pretty freaky and cut our exploration short:(

That's the house my grandpa grew up in! He was born in the front room. It was part of the underground railroad. It has a hidden room in the basement behind the boiler where they used to hide slaves. He took us on a tour of it one time. It used to be soooo beautiful. Thank you for this! This absolutely made my day bro!

There's also an underground tunnel that leads out to the field in the back, and allegedly was used for bringing slaves in out of the home during the Underground Railroad times. I went on a full tour of this house, including the underground tunnel and Widow's Peak, sometime during the 1980s while my friend who lived there at the time was having a Halloween Party. I was absolutely amazed and hate that this house has been left to rot! :'( I've also heard rumors that it is haunted. I once saw a creepy KZbin video of this house where something, which I believe was a doll, was hung by noose in one of the windows; I got an eerie feeling while watching that video!

This is where my mother in law grew up prior to 1964! Her relatives lived there between 1920-1970s. Her Dad owned the farm and home. Purported to have been part of the underground rail road. Her mother ( our grandma, R.I.P.) played the organ and piano and taught lessons. She always remarked about all the fireplaces! I'll see if she can answer some of your questions!

Wow! I lived here in the early-mid 90s when my parents tried to restore it and the house is just so beautiful with so much hand made detail, and so so much history. It's so sad to see it in this shape but the owner has never gave it the attention it deserved. I just wish he would've sold it to someone who cared about it years ago rather than allow it to fall into this unsalvageable condition 😞

Having grown up in Ohio with carpenter for a father who restored Victorian homes, I can tell you it’s not rare at all for cities all across Ohio to have historical districts with gorgeous Victorian mansions. Some even are on the outskirts of cities, like this one. My city was founded in 1791, so we have tons of old homes that are just gorgeous! I live in a relatively new home though, (only 100 years old) built in 1920, as the others are on our hill. The story with the staircases that’s met in the middle might have been servants quarters, with one side being for men and the other women. The doors would be kept locked at night so there was no night time fraternizing. Please pair more Victorians please! I’d love to explore, but to big of a scaredy pants! Lol

When I a little girl, I always thought an old house with an upstairs exterior door & porch (or often times a second floor exterior door to nowhere...lol) was for escape in the event of a fire. I finally asked my mom why all the old houses had upstairs "fire escape" doors & new homes didn't. She laughed heartily as she explained to me that, back in the good, old days, all those with upstairs exterior doors more than likely did have porches at one time & rather than being a fire escape feature or sunny relaxing porch area, they were actually used for cleaning and/or airing out bed mattresses. Also doubling as a means to get bedding upstairs if the home had shallow, narrow stairwells. Who would have thought?!

One thing I noticed immediately, since I'm building a 1/4 inch scale model of a 1904 vintage 2-stall brick railroad engine house that has one: you were thinking of the New England "Widow's Walk" when you wrote the description, but that structure up on the roof peak is actually a "cupola." A Widow's Walk was a flat platform on the top of a Mansard roof, usually with an ornate wrought iron railing all around, for the wife of a sea captain to look out for his tall ship when he was due home. A "widow's peak" is a point of one's hair line coming down one's forehead, like Count Dracula. One of my buddies had one (also had slightly over-long, pointy canine teeth!). Nice explore. These places, including the "castle" exploration where I first subbed you, were beautiful, but those high ceilings in rooms heated by fireplaces, made them chilly, to say the least! BTW, those pushbutton light switches are very familiar to me, as the first house that I remember had them---also round porcelain switch bases with black knobs. A lot of the houses of my youth (1940s-early '50s) had both types. They made a distinct "Plink!" when you switched the lights on and off. Good job; glad I found you.
@OnceOccupied

It’s funny you pointed out the door knobs. That’s one of my favorite things we find a bow old houses is the craftsmanship and quality of materials in something as simple as a doorknob.

Very nice video. I'm glad you added in stills that show details. My grandparents lived in southern Ohio, along the Ohio river. There was extreme poverty and some remnants of old wealth from the riverboat and tobacco days. I would say that your lens looks foggy, like it needs cleaned or you just got out of a nice air conditioned car and into the humidity and moisture condensed on the lens (they need some time to warm up first). Thanks for posting this.

Carrie Armour I’m sure when your in these homes, the first thought is your safety. This would likely be the reason not to stand around and ruminate on each thing. Just exploring it is enough for the most of us. It’s a bit scary to me, just watching it in the safety of my own home. The floors may not have been safe around the fireplace? Just throwing out possibilities. Not being judgy.

Right I was thinking the same and I'm from Saginaw Michigan. We have those Victorian houses, some i swore I would grow up to live in. Sadly most are torn down. But some (including my favorite that just sold for 35k about 5000sqft. castle looking house ) are being restored.

I do not think that is a smokehouse. It was probably a servants house or grounds keepers house. Also the basement room with the fireplace would have been the original kitchen. It was an awesome video!

Beautiful place, I can tell the wood work is German or Dutch. Your absolutely right! That is a pull to control the the release of heated water in the basement boilers into the radiator heaters or the heated pipe ran through the floor. That steel bar across the fire place was to hang pots from to cook over the fire.

I've worked countless hours at this farm and believe it or not tried to buy that house a little bit of time. We cleaned out countless dump truck loads of trash and junk, had windows fixed, fixed some of the wiring, and had it under lock and key. Back when all that was done the roof didn't leak and the front yard was mowed up so it was decent. There was a bell up in the top of the watch tower and a rope that went down to the basement or 1st floor and you could ring it, story goes they used to it call everyone in at meal times through the day. I added my name in the tower as well.

If no one has answered your question yet about that open close control on the wall I am willing lol. I'm sure someone has shed light but I'm not willing to browse all the comments. It's a control for a coal burning furnace that opens and closes the damper. Which controls the flow of air entering the furnace. Beautiful house by the way just absolutely beautiful.

In colonial days the kitchen was separate from the house as flue fires were a threat. The chimneys were often huge. I lived in a house built in the late 1700s that had a stand alone kitchen as well as a smoke house. Smoke houses usually had wooden pegs up high where you would hang the meet. Some places even had a separate wash house. You would take coals out of the kitchen fire to the wash house to warm up a large tub of water. They would also have brick floors as you would get water every where getting out to dry.
