Today I am going to explore an abondeded Villa in Bighi Kalkara, with beautiful stone decorated ceilings, rooms carved in stone, very old paintings and I even found a bone that most probably is a human femur. Of which I had to file a police report. Most probably came from an old cemetery near by that was removed.
Here are some information from the Wirt il-Kalkara Website
wirtilkalkara.com
The Bichi family, in the past being owners of several plots on the Salvatore Hill, used to lease parts of these plots to third parties, on which small cottages with gardens were built. On the 2nd November 1744, certain Carlo Zammit from Valletta, sought permission to repair an outhouse and erect two new ones in the three gardens he owned on the road of San Salvatore between the fortifications of Borgo and Ricasoli, The Commissioner for the Fortifications in his report stated that applicant had obtained the site from the noble family of Bichi on perpetual lease. Permission for the works was accordingly granted on 9th November. The same Zammit, requested on 1st August 1746, to be allowed to add an alcove to one of the rooms recently built, and permission was granted to proceed with this work, on the 9th of that month.

Pierre I'm very interested in Maltese history, been to museums read books but your blogs makes me actually feel the history rather than just studying it. Many thanks and I hope your vlogs are preserved for future generations, and I agree the roofs of that building were something special. Many many thanks.

The bone you picked up is probably part of a humerus, easily mistaken for a femur. Well done on putting the bone down and reporting it to the authorities for further investigation

A big thank you dear Pierre Farrugia for your exploration in this villa which was damaged during WW2 and abandoned since then. Appreciate what you have showed. Somewhere I have read that it was used by the officers of Bighi Hospital.

Very interesting place i am from cospicua and used to go for a swim in the bay very often when young. I`ve never been in this place . You can see that ceiling structure in the President`s palace in Valletta. It has been a very good effort by you for us to experience this villa . WELLDONE.

Unfortunately far too little funding appears to be available for the preservation of the stunningly beautiful history of the Maltese Islands. Sadly it would appear to be a different matter when it comes to new build monstrosities though!

Thanks Pierre. I enjoyed your tour of Villa Bichi. I used to love going exploring around old historical sites in Malta!! If you had a drone, you could have sent it up to photograph the upper levels in safety! Btw, I am no expert, but perhaps those underground chambers with the openings in the ceiling could have been grain/food stores. The drawings of the ships could have been made by a prisoner/slave kept down there... tied up ?? Very interesting to think about it. I'll check out your other videos. Thanks again!
